Douglah left for dead is THRIVING in my family room !

Last fall I assumed my lone Douglah was doomed.... I left it out through MULTIPLE hard freezes before I decided to try and save it. I literally ripped it out of the ground and stuffed it into a pot. I then BUTCHERED all the foliage off, so I was basically left with a dead stick in a pot in plain old garden dirt!

I plopped it in my mudroom and forgot about it..... a few weeks later it had leaves again! I decided to put it by a window and now I have 8 FRUITS!!!!

A resurrection! Excellent :D Good luck with it!
I'm going to be after some douglah seeds next season, but I hear they're real hard to come across?

I got some from Pepperlover.com, but I'm not sure if she still has any in stock.

Try Neil at thehippyseedcompany or Semillas Seed. They should still have some in stock, if you're looking to purchase some of those.

And great save there on your Douglah, Katrina, some of these pepper plants might be hardier than we think.

Still haven't decided if I'm going to grow Douglahs this year. I have some seed just asking to be sowed but just can't make up my mind. Wasn't overly impressed with the taste (the heat speaks for itself). I'm hoping a plant I left in the garage has this same resurrection as your did. Is your mudroom heated? I'm pretty sure my garage gets down to at least freezing.

My mudroom is NOT heated OR insulated!

What an incredible story, looks awesome.

I had only one last season, tried to overwinter it, but the aphids got to it. I sprayed every day for about 1 ½ months and just couldn't beat them. I'm talking like thousands of them; they just keep coming and coming. Finally I had to remove the Douglah from the house, to make sure they don't interfere with next season's stock. I have 12 of those babies slated for this season.

Remind me not to fall asleep there. Will wake up bald with no arms sitting on the porch. j/k. Amazing how they look dead when only dormant.

Thanks DVG, I'll more than likely not be growing them till next year, so I've got time to hunt a good source or two.

My only fear is I'll end up with brown seven, I believe there's a difference yeah?

Katrina...thanks for posting this. I have a Bhut Jalokia and 2 Caribbean Reds that I abandoned in the greenhouse after all the pods were picked. A few weeks ago I cut them back, repotted them, and brought them inside. They look dead to me, but I'm giving it my best shot at reviving them. They did experience some pretty hard freezes and drying out. I am really mad at myself for neglecting them. You give me hope.

Congrats! I have a few that I cut back this winter but in doing so I noticed that the stalks were still viable. Hope I have similar luck!
