Oooohhhhhhh......man AJ you just gave me a bad flashback when you said working in papermills......I was a union insulator for a while and those places were rough.....really really rough to work in.....i just got a chill down my spine

Can't be anyworse than getting shot at or almost hit with a carbomb!;)

I loved the smell and have even been heard saying "mmmmm...smells like bacon and eggs to me"

agree they are hard to work in...it is hard work and will make an old man out of you in a hurry....remember, once you get past the smell..............

Heat and the nasty ass smell(although you do eventually get used to it....)

you actually sometimes I miss it...was in a hell of a lot better physical condition that is for sure...

Best of luck rabbit -- dont know what I would do if it came down to that... sometimes its a curse to work at one place for so long its not like it used to be when my parents and their parents would work at one place for 25yrs or more --

best of luck dude - don't be afraid to look for opportunities outside your usual career path, this could be a chance for a great new beginning

Its about as bad as working INSIDE a boiler at a powerhouse......ALMOST
I've had to weld inside of a steel box before in the summer with leathers on. That's pretty hot too;). I've heard about papermills before though. Definitely not an office type job.

My wife and I are actually kind of excited in a way. Yeah, I'm nervous about bills and all, but we're actually considering moving out of state for a job. In my line of work there isn't much to do job wise here now, but there are quite a few other areas related to what I do that could be very interesting. Like I said before, I believe it's a blessing in disguise and will probably be glad it happened down the road. It is odd when getting out isn't on you're choice though and instead of an easy transition it's more like a bird getting tossed out of a nest:shocked::lol: We'll be fine. I've been through a few struggles in my day, this wasn't the first, and won't be the last. I'll pull through.

One thing for sure, it's a whole lot easier to move adn get resettled BEFORE you hava kid...IMO, anyways. :)

There's some truth in that aspect I'm sure, but it would be difficult having a kid when the rest of the family can't be there. In certain ways like you said it would be easier too though.:)

sorry to hear about the jobloss, like others have said maybe its a calling & something new is on the horizon for you be it a new job or location. good luck & hope everything turns out for the best!

its not just your location as for jobs. I remember years ago seeing 6-7 paper sections of 8+ pages for employment, now its 1 section & has only 2 pages. jobs are tough right now for everyone everywhere.
if things dont change much here come springtime I might take a roadtrip to ND to see what they have to offer, saw something online saying ND has plenty of jobs but no one to fill them (cuz of location) & right now its too F'ing cold to work outside there

Mate, I'm sorry to hear that things aren't all that great, and it's good to see that overall you have a positive attitude about it.

I am balancing on the employment fence myself..... I work for a large global company that are mostly into Aluminium production, and they just announced today that none of there plants are making money except ours here in Australia, but ours will be running at a massive loss as of January.......And if the global price of Oil (which is how they globally rate the price of aluminium) doesn't increase soon, our plant will suffer job losses.

And as I am the Contracts/Projects manager, and they are stopping all projects, My job is one of the first ones on the chopping block.......
