Fake Pepper X seeds missing

Maybe they ripened in the bottle ;)
Lol, I seriously considered that as well... thinking maybe in the beginning they were rushing them, hoping they would ripen in the bottle a bit. However, you can still find original bottles of the green batch from last year on eBay that haven't changed color at all. So I don't think that's the case. Ed also specifically stated in a few videos that it was a mustard colored pepper.

Here's my bet... as they started running out of pepper X for the season, they started slowly mixing in reapers to keep milking the cash cow known as The Last Dab hot sauce, which is why the sauce has become more and more red as time went on. Once they couldn't hide it anymore because people started noticing and talking about it, they just put a new label on the bottle and release it as "Reaper Edition" and keep milking that til next harvest of Pepper X.

He's also got Caramel colored Reapers that he's sent to Sean Evans on the Hot Ones YouTube show. Ed told Sean they're hotter than the Red Reapers. They are not officially released yet though.

Edit: I also got an email this week saying they officially released Chocolate Reapers on his site as well.

Funny how the creator of the Carolina Reaper is never first to market with variants.  Chocolate, Carmel, Yellow, Peach have all been out for a bit.

I can think of a theory or two that might explain that

Yeah for sure. However, for the average person not on chilli head forums, that wants reapers, they have no idea those color variants exist, so I bet he'll still sell a bunch to the general public.

Ye that and there seems to be pockets of patrons.  Like the Pepper Joe pocket that allows Pepper Joe to sell Carolina Reaper seeds at a higher consumer cost than Puckerbutt.  Have to figure patrons do not realize Puckerbutt exists to pay more from someone else.

The guy is obviously very uninformed.  The Dragon's Breath did not take the throne.  Pepper X did not take the throne.  This War Chest of hot peppers thing has been claimed for much time and nothing has come from it.  Remember Death Strain?  There was another one.  Now it is Pepper X.  It is all a slight of hand game, playing he media for the fools that they are.

Everyone knows The Magical Unicorn Toe Pepper is the hottest pepper in the world.  All the other claims are limp.

Has it been verified yet, that pepper x did in fact, not take the title?
I have been looking for anything that difintively states one way or the other. But nothing as of yet. Does anyone know if the 2018 Guinness book has been released yet?

Nm just looked it up. The 2018 book was released in August of last year. So even if it did win it wouldn't be listed till the next book.

seen ed on face book today and he said the record is back up on Guinness site . he says more to come later. what ever that means.

Surely, you know why, right?

Still says reaper. So I’m not sure what Smokin Ed is smoking.

The Reaper's record was removed from the Guinness site not long after Ed announced that Pepper X was challenging for the title. It has been gone for months.

The fact that they suddenly put the old record back up makes me wonder if maybe Pepper X just didn't live up to the hype.

Ah I wasn’t aware that it was temporarily removed. But I agree, it’s not a good sign for pepper x.

Oh yay, we are back to the Naga Viper claim.

What do you mean?
NAGA VIPER

Even though it appeared in the Guiness book of Worlds records, it was discovered that it was not grown out 8 full generations to make it a completely Stable variety. That process is ongoing and is close to finished now several years later.

Back when you could claim SHU's & Guinness would put you in their book a couple of peppers were stripped of the title. And you'll note Pepper Joe left this fact out (Want to know why? MARKETING!).

Ah, so he's referencing the naga viper claim and alluding to the fact that the situations are similar. In that the reaper was removed from the site based on claim rather than finalized testing. Gotcha.
I thought perhaps Ed had elaborated or someone had made a new claim.

I think he might actually have been referencing this statement on the Guinness site:

"His record-breaking Carolina Reaper - which is a cross between Sweet Habanero and Naga Viper chillies - took ten years to perfect."

Ed has made conflicting statements about the original cross in various interviews, including a claim that it was a cross between a red habanero and a "Pakistani Naga", but now we indeed seem to be back to the Naga Viper claim.

Funny thing is, the Reaper won the title in 2013. If it had taken "ten years to perfect", that would suggest that he did the original cross in 2003, which to my understanding was long before the Naga Viper even existed. So... time travel confirmed?
