Flavours of the Caribbean (Mainly)

Thought it was about time I put on blog on here as requested by a good friend Gary (wind chicken).
I got to know Gary having done a seed trade over 2 years ago via fb, and have always admired his growing.
As title says most of my grow will be bonnets as I love Caribbean cuisine especially Jerk chicken, curry goat etc.

I started some rocotos quite early as I know they take forever to ripen..

First time I've ever grown rocoto and pleased with progress so far.

The rocoto,s are red rocoto, tropical orange f3, and De seda.

Will make a proper grow list when I receive the p.dreadie select seeds kindly sent by Gary and one I'm pleased to have as a memory to Erin.

Another one already up and waiting to be potted on is Carrot Jolokia which I was kindly sent by Ben (bpiela), took ages to sprout a hook, but got one in the end.

Just waiting on a few stubborn bonnets to show hooks before finalizing what's a keeper.

MikeUSMC and i did a seed trade end of last season , his pods were some of the best colour cappuccinho bonnets iv ever seen, really looking for to trying these .

Phenos were kind of "all over the place," but they were still very tasty! Prolific plants too

They make a fantastic smoked powder, and I'm right in the middle of a Black Cherry Bourbon Vanilla ferment (hot sauce), with smoked Cappuccino pods (rehydrated in Bourbon)

Those sb caps look very similar to the JA Habs I've been growing. So much I bet I couldn't tell them apart in a bowl full.

Kind words indeed Sandy and much appreciated, i believe we all do our best for what ever peppers we like to grow , to me even one pod is a victory iv a laid back approach to gardening and try keeping it fun,
 
our weather through May and June has been superb for growing hot and very humid .....Plants are loving it.
i return the success wishes and hope you have a great grow , hope we all have a long very warm summer .

those SB Caps stood out in MikeUSMC,S grow last season and the colour alone had me hooked, i love any bonnets there so versatile and can be used in so many spicy dishes ,
glad you like the healthiness of the plants , yes im happy considering all the chinense were regerminated because of no shows and runt looking plants , i keep the polytunnel very humid by soaking all the bark chippings on the ground and that prevents any drooping

Sorry to cause a bunch of confusion, everybody! I grew those Capp SBs last season, and sent Sim some seeds from those pods at the end of last year. I originally got the seeds from Jackson13 at the end of 2015, who *I think* got them from pods from Kevin (wayright). Don't hold me to that, I'm going from memory here

Devv, what's the "JA" stand for?

 

I think it was 2013, that Ramon (Walkgood) sent me seeds. He called them JA Habs. They originated in Jamaica. He also sent me the MoA seeds back then, originally obtained by a buddy of his named Steve who scored them from someone who worked at the Jamaican Mission of Agriculture.

Great looking plants, Sim! Nice to see pods on your Rocotos. My Aji Oro is getting pods, but my Brown Rocoto has yet to do so. I'm very interested to see how the Hainans turn out as well. That's not one I've heard of. Great pleated shape! Awesome job!

Cheers Adam , yeah first time growing rocotos and i figured they would like our climate so put 4 down the garden in semi shade , they seem settled and delighted to see pods , probably take to October to ripen
 
very impressed with the Hainan Yellow Lantern , was told it was quite rare , dont see it in many grows around the globe, great plant to grow as well, podding up nicely and loads of bud/flowers forming around the canopy...
Will grow again next season thats for sure.
