I thought the same thing, which is why I propped it up to get a good shot of it flipping me off. Its a red bhut jolokia. The middle finger is actually just a "twin" growth, it isn't a stinger, the rest of it was the actual pod that didn't elongate. The photo was taken in a perspective that makes it look like a stinger.
 
I have found quite a few "twin" growths already this year.
 
Been quite awhile since last posted anything so hope figure this pic stuff out.
 
Pod from seeds of what I called Ghost Tails. Best of the bunch I got growing.
Maybe not quite as gnarly as the above peppers but the plant it's growing on suprised me.
 


Plant is just over 10 inches tall. Grows in west facing window of kitchen. Feed it fish ferts and kelp.
 
 


 
Guess it's not all that gnarly.......
