Growing Chiles in HEL - 2020

So this is it folks, I've recovered my password and bought 10 seedlings today from Jukka "Fatalii" Kilpinen. Didn't start any of my own seeds due to laziness, though I still might start some to sell.

Pubescens
--------------
3 x Rocoto Marlene
2 x Big Brown
1 x Mini Rocoto
1 x Costa Rica

Annuum
---------------
1 x Jalapeno Early

Baccatum
------------------
1 x Lemon Drop

Chinense
-------------------
1 x Fatalii

Photos coming tomorrow when I clean the junk out of my sauna and establish the grow room again.

Wow, that is one dense rocoto MF!   My CCR grown outdoors - and perhaps being a different variety - was more open than yours and more upright versus wide.

Also wanted to say that's a perspective of your tent I haven't seen in your photos before and I get much more of a feel for the size of the plants.  Those are some beasts!

Can't wait to see that deck loaded
up with c. pubescens!

Are you going to spread some containers
around in your thinned-out forest?

Let's see. We are welcoming a new family member in less than a week and he will be the apple of my eye for the rest of this year, no doubt.

For me that CRR has been a pretty big plant and has some lateral reach on it too, but on an upward angle versus just sprawling sideways. There's bigger, but I'd put it around the top 1/3 from what I've seen.  I haven't gotten it into a bigger pot early, though, so I don't think I've seen its full potential.  I'll be curious to see how big yours can get and also if you pull bigger pods.  For me it's put out a good number of medium pods - and they're nice pods - but I bet it can do better.

I read from Jukka's site that it also fruits indoors so I might just put it into a big 30 litre pot so that I can bring it "easily" back into the sauna in the autumn.

There is a major difference in the outdoor growing capabilities between 47 and 60 north, especially when considering a relatively temperate climate like southern Finland. I'll put it in a 30l and keep you posted :-)

Good morning! Ground is nice and white here... Im loving spring 2020 with snowy May and korona.

Im pretty sure that My sprouted peas and carrots will die. Yesterday there were cotys visible.

Haha thanks a lot CaneDog! Its growing like a little tree, I´ve made it my summers project to get fruit from it, tricky variety indeed.

My beauty, Rocoto Mini Brown

OK I am fed up with this damned photo uploading where I take the photo properly with my iPhone 11 and then when it's uploaded it becomes sideways.

I have been using this third party app for pictures for 5 or 6 years, since my iphone 5. Plus then it is dated. And, then pics load to forum correctly.

I read that also, but haven't tried it yet as a means of chemical scarification. Might do some experiments later after I get other things sorted out.

One thing I have noticed - using it for foliar or root feeding, it causes side shoots to aggressively appear. Normally with rocotos, I haven't witnessed that sort of thing until they've been outside for about two months. Two weeks now of Rhizotonic applications and these chilis have shoots coming out of every single node on the plant. It is pretty expensive stuff and might not be all that different than liquid kelp - need to do an experiment later when I get time (and buy some kelp).
Congratulations on saving the plants!
What concentration did you make of the Rhizotonic foliar solution,  and at what time interval  did you spray it?

I used 40 ml in 10 litres of water. Sprayed 2-3 times per day on the undersides of the leaves.

Still at least 10 days before I can even put plants outside during the daytime - we've ran into a cold patch here now.

I only have 10 plants and some of them have now grown so large that something will have to be done. The Rocoto Mini is already nearly a meter wide.

Took one jalapeno off to sample it - zero kick.

Lemon Drop has started to become a mini-bush and also setting pods indoors.

Rocoto Big Brown and Mini Brown are both packed with flowers but no pods.
