Growing Chiles in HEL - 2020

So this is it folks, I've recovered my password and bought 10 seedlings today from Jukka "Fatalii" Kilpinen. Didn't start any of my own seeds due to laziness, though I still might start some to sell.

Pubescens
--------------
3 x Rocoto Marlene
2 x Big Brown
1 x Mini Rocoto
1 x Costa Rica

Annuum
---------------
1 x Jalapeno Early

Baccatum
------------------
1 x Lemon Drop

Chinense
-------------------
1 x Fatalii

Photos coming tomorrow when I clean the junk out of my sauna and establish the grow room again.

Wow, finally got my extreme membership back thanks to help of Paul bro. Now I can post photos again without jumping through hoops, which is important especially because with my pup Ace there is never a dull moment (him not into mischief).

All the peppers were outside since middle of last week and then we potted / boxed them on Saturday. I made an executive decision that we aren't going to have any more cold nights until autumn :-) Thermal summer started a bit early this year, bonus.

So, without further adieu, a few photos

Rocoto Costa Rica will provide privacy in front of the hot tub

Welcome back to the fold, my friend!

You are the rocoto champ, Mika! Those
look really good! that OW Mini Brown is
going to be a monster!

Ace is awesome. What a great looking pup.
Love those ears!

Good to see you back in action and kudos to PaulG for helping out.  I was beginning to wonder if we'd see any more of your Ace photography before he was an adult ;)

Planter setup looks fantastic.  Hope the weather cooperates with getting you off to a quick start!

Thanks, Paul. I like growing rocotos because I like the unique burn. They are also very well suited to outdoor growing in the southern Finnish climate.

The mini brown is not an OW yet. Was just saying that I put it in a pot so that I could OW it this year. But yeah, looks like it is set to be massive. Will probably need to trim the hell out of it just to fit it back through the door this autumn.

Ace is a total people magnet. Because he's a Bull Terrier, I have been super serious about his socialisation with everything under the sun. Would be sort of hard for him to be anything other than great looking when both of his parents are multiple-country champions. He comes from a seriously good pedigree. The wrinkles on his forehead will be gone when he's grown, but for now they are cute :-) Normally, people need to be on a waiting list for up to two years to get one of these dogs but corona changed things - people got scared to visit strangers and also tightened up their wallets considerably. So, I was able to get him without being on a waiting list and also because I did not try to negotiate the price downward at all. And what would a Bull Terrier be without erect ears?

Yep, thanks Paul.

Ace will be a highly photographed dog during his whole life, I'm sure :-)

Yeah, we built those planter boxes last year (also two of them in the front yard) and they are great. This is year-old soil now, so I need to need to go and pick up some Canna Terra today. I believe the weather is going to be just fine!

Hit the big planter boxes with some chicken shit yesterday as I don't want the rocotos to start podding up just yet - they are still relatively small and scrawny. Give them about 3 weeks to green and bush up then I'll hit them with some PK.

Been in the hot tub 2 evenings in a row now that it is finally in action again. Words can't even begin to describe how much I love that thing. It's 2m (6.5 feet) wide, so I can totally stretch out and not even touch the other side :-) Might be that it provides enough general humidity that the rocotos love it, too. Only thing better would be if I had it inside a greenhouse with a bar and a sound system bangin some bomb ass dre hemp beats. #hedonism

Ace and I have been reading THP

I’ve enjoyed catching up on your Glog. Great read, I also have improvised a reading space.

Thanks, man. Life just goes better with dogs.

Do you have a glog yet?
Yup I have one. We are in full turmoil now. I grow plants for a living and recently got back in peppers heavily. Running around 100 plants in south Florida this year.

Seconded life is much better with our dog buds! I think I spend more time and tell more secrets to mine than I do my wife.

Cool. I had about 40 plants in the backyard last year but half of them got wiped out by bacteria carried by falling birch seeds. Birch seeds fall extremely heavily the year after a major stress and 2018 was the hottest summer in Finnish history and also a 3 month long drought. So we got the mother of all birch seed storms last summer - and it was also raining - so the seeds were on the pepper leaves and getting wet. Wiped out almost all of my annuums and chinenses, but left the pubescens and baccatums largely unscathed.

We've got 3 terriers now, maybe enough to keep the grow safe :-) Ace will be the alpha, for sure, when he reaches about 1 year old, but for now it's a full time job to keep him from starting shit with the bigger dogs. Yesterday evening, my big terrier boy almost turtle-waxed his ass for being too rambunctious.

Pods on the Rocoto Mini Brown already!!!!! This summer is gonna be legendary! Hot tub, dogs, peppers, gin :-)

Sun's out guns out. Lovin my kettlebells and havin a voracious apetite for some oatmeal and pineapple. Working hard and feeling good. Love you all :-)

My rocoto montufar has also beginned to form first couple of pods!
This is my first time growing any pubes, and that one seems to like my conditions

I grew 2 montufars last year. They both had quite a lot of pods. Nice heat profile. Couldn't get any of them to sprout this year.
