Growing in the Pacific NorthWest Community GrowLog

There have been several yearly PNW grow logs, the last in 2017,
so @FGpepperguy and I thought it might be a good idea to start
an on-going glog for the PNW. This is a community glog, so anyone
is free to post here, whether in the PNW or not. Hopefully, this forum
thread will provide for some information sharing particular to growing
in our crazy, unpredictable weather.

So, that being said, welcome all. Don't be strangers!

"Yes, we can grow chili peppers in the
Pacific NorthWest! Usually."

@mcbob - I grew the Bolivian Rainbow
one of the first seasons I grew peppers
other than Jalapeños or Seranos. When
they start to ripen up, they put on quite
a show. Looking forward to seeing how
yours color up.

Wow! Right up there with Dragonsfire's jalapeno production. :( And too many of mine.

This year I left my sole fatalii in the indoor aphigeddon too long hoping to get a good batch of isolated seeds, but the aphids kept it from producing. I moved it outside late and only know is it starting to come around - far too late. Maybe I'll put one on the list for this year's indoor offseason season. I'm pretty fond of that version of fatalii.

Hahaha, CD!

It’s a real winner, alright. As good as the version I grew
back in 2012-2014 from Peppermania, if IRC. Maybe it
was Pepperlover 😖 Late onset Youngzeimers setting in,
I guess!

Better seasons ahead, right?

Haha. That's a bit of a blast from the past. I'm not sure whether I still have varieties from peppermania seeds anymore, but I definitely still have some good old pepperlover varieties.

Definitely better seasons ahead. The challenging weather mixed with doses of my own incompetence hasn't made this one the most productive, but it's still a lot of fun.

Don't you find that every year certain peppers do better than others, no rhyme or reason to it?
Yes, indeed, especially phenotype variation. Normaly
reason is due to vagaries of weather, at least in our
climate here. Not so sure about the rhyme ;)
@PaulG this year has sucked! Here is my first haul. Some Korean peppers for powder and Aji Cito
As folk more articulate than I have said, there
may not be many, but they look great!

Been a hit and miss season here in PNW for sure.
I am still banking on a long decent Fall season

As it was here, last season. Lots of nice-sized pods,
2.5-3 inches (approx. 6-8 cm). Fatalis usually do well
here, in general. Last year was very successful due to
high Summer temperatures .
I'm confused... you're not hit with scorching heat this year?

Not like last year, just mostly 90's with a few
close to 100˚F. Last year, three days in a row
of 105-116˚F. Also this season, a record cold
and wet June, until the last week, when it
quickly got hot for a couple of days. All in all,
maybe 6-8 days of triple digits, but lots of 90+
in a row. We were sort of on the edge of the
last heat dome.
