Hello, NEW PEOPLE!

Yeah with friend requests the sit in limbo for a week or two with unknowns. If by them I have not got to know them or they haven't tried to know me then deny it is.

Back to my smoker for more double cherry smoked bhuts and scorps.

I used to have it set so that anyone who wanted to be my friend was automatically OK'd. I have since learned that isn't the smartest thing to do.

On another site that I'm on I sell tarantulas. Didn't have a problem OKing anyone who wanted to be a friend. Small hobby you know. One "friend" joined the site and made friends with several of the folks who have good reputations on the site. He used that "see I'm friends with a lot of the good people" line to try and rip off a couple of people. That's why I approve every friend now. When someone I don't know or haven't seen around much asks to be my friend the first thing I ask them is why. I think one answered and one sent me another request to be a friend. I'm fairly certain it's the same individual that the Boss has already warned.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they ain't out to get you.

I get the odd message that someone has added me to their friend list. Didn't know that friends never had to have any contact :crazy: I'm friends with the whole world then :rofl:

I see the posts asking for free seeds. They are like the the posts in the welcome forum where they say, "wow just thought I'd tell everyone about this amazing restaurant I found, at this address, this website, everything about it is excellent... etc" :eh: Like no one has seen a blatant advertisement before and will be fooled :P

I have on my profile that I will trade seeds and I have gotten many free seeds and given some away but I've never gotten a PM asking for seeds. I guess that is a reflection on my troubled grow log. :oops: Once this season really takes off for me then maybe I'll get hassled ;)

Maybe we need to make a couple more rules when becoming a member: No friend requesting anyone or asking for anything until you have been here for one month or 100 posts.

He was kidding Scovie . You're alright. Hell, there's probably only about 10-15 people here anymore with over 5K.

I like the idea that we have to 'prove our worth' so to speak before anyone asks for seeds. I have spent my first few seasons purchasing almost all of my seeds from reputable sellers online. It bothers me seeing threads like this though of everyone ranting about newbies. I'm a newbie myself but I will never ever ask for free seed or anything like that. I do, however, want to get to know each and every one of you one by one. I spent years reading a lot of growing books, studying plant biology, and working with farmhands around my town before joining a chili forum... and then spent another full grow year before joining this particular one.

Am I a 'newbie'? Of course. I still have much to learn and learn more every day thanks to this place. I just think that we shouldn't turn off other newbies just because they can't instantly be a part of the elite of this forum.

Rant aside they should still earn their keep and prove that they're serious before anyone offers them free seed.
