Hello, NEW PEOPLE!

Rant aside they should still earn their keep and prove that they're serious before anyone offers them free seed.

That is exactly what I thought this thread was about. There is nothing wrong with being new. Their are just some common sense things you shouldn't do when you first meet people. For some people that sense isn't so common and thus threads like this are born. People get frustrated and then it starts spreading across multiple threads in the community. At least this way the grievances are kept in one space. Also, it offers a vent for the frustration which keeps it out of multiple other threads.

The only reason anyone gets upset is because they care so much about the community and some peoples behavior can cheapen that experience.

Just my 2¢

mrz1988, you are the opposite of why this thread was started. you'll fit right in here!
I had a run of friend requests, seed requests, ect. all in about a week, and all from people who had 0- 6 posts. Left me feeling like, Wha?
I got irritated and started this thread, my "rant". I never expected it would turn into 4 pages. LOL

Welcome mrz!

This place is awesome and so full of good information and amusing discussions I kill an hour or two a day just reading stuff. Since I'm a novice grower who has only been at it for a few years I don't have a lot of useful information to share, and since I spend a lot of time reading I don't post much and will probably have a low post count for a long time.

Admittedly I quickly became excited with all the seeds available here, but other than hotstuff's free seed giveaway I haven't felt the need to bug anyone about them. Due to that thread both hotsuff and hixs ended up sending me free seeds, and in an effort to not come off as a total leech I offered to send them any of the seeds from my collection. Even though I didn't have a ton of superhots they both chose to take me up on the offer so in the end it turned into a seed exchange.

I don't have a ton of grow space so I'm pretty well set for next season thanks to them and a few people I met "in real life".

In regards to the OP complaining about noobs begging for seeds I can understand his or her sentiments but not all of us are looking to leech all we can. I'll probably purchase and/or trade for seeds if I ever figure out what I really want to grow but for now this place is mostly a resource for information for me.

And I agree with some of the other posters... the losers that will join and request seeds asap only to disappear are unlikely to read this thread.

as for seeds that is why I am giving away my cutting board seeds. I hope the newbies win because then maybe they will pass some on since those piles aren't small. :)

Gahhh us chili growers are such a big happy family. I've already had more than enough hospitality from you guys. One day I hope to have nice enough plants to have an irksome new member greet me with an outstretched hand. I think I see everyones point though that it's tough to tell who is a legitimate new member and who is just trying to gather the bare minimum respect to get some seeds, and then hide in the corner until he/she can do it again. For now I'll just drink my beer and pray that next season comes swiftly

Mrz, no one here is singling out newbs as a whole. It is the people that join and immediately start asking strangers for things for free that has people bugged. Everyone is new at some point. To all new people, I have asked and received many seeds, sauces etc. from the good people here. I have tried to repay the best way I know how. AJ, Alabama Jack has a theory that I and many others here have adopted, PAY IT FORWARD. The people who give away seeds rarely need anything in return, but the next new person getting into growing might.
