hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

So today i just transplanted my first set of seedlings that are about 3 weeks old now and have started my new seeds I just got from pepperlover.com today.

3 week old peppers are:

Manzano
Gochu
Caribbean Red
Jalapeno
Cayenne
Bhut Jolokia
Fatalii
Aji Lemon
Aji Chuncho
Tepin
Red Habanero
Scotch Bonnet TFM
Maui Thai
7 Pod Yellow

Transplants were done a bit early for some but I think it was for the best as they were all in jiffy pellets and some of the seedlings were starting to root past the pellet and starting to dry out faster than I was comfortable with.

Pepperlover.com was awesome and threw in Orange Hab, Red Hab, and Aji Chuncho with my order

Also all of the seedlings I'm growing I still have extra seeds if anyone is interested in some trades.

I'm wandering around aimlessly attempting to be at the top of as many new pages as I can...top of page 3 is mine Paul! Looking great Hooda! Hope you score some plants from Mgold!

Lol it would be nice of him but I'm sure there is someone else that would benifit from them. I have a better start on the season than others. I already have over 40 plants as it is.

Yeah...40 is a good #. Next year after I figure out what I like this season and add a few that I want to try out I am hoping to keep my #s around 50 or so. That'll leave more room for some more non-pepper stuff.

Ok Update. I feel pretty good about where my plants are at right now, considering my first set where in rough shape from the elements and my over watering. The Carribean Reds are still in recovery mode atm, but should come through alright. Aphids are starting to colonize my plants and for the most part I've just been knocking them off the plants manually and am keeping an eye on them every day for more. I'm finding that I'm a overwaterer even though how much I try not to be, though watering two different soil types has become a chore.

Fox Farms Ocean Forest amended with perlite, what can I say, all my plants that are in it are doing really well. Those that are in the amended Kellogg Patio Plus seem to suffer more. In the future I will probably only use FF.

All the my strongest plants will probably hit the ground in the next couple weeks, I just need time to prepare the garden for them. So most of my overwatering issues will hopefully be more manageable. Anyway on the the pictures.

So my plant numbers might be thinned out these coming weeks depending on how I feel about the smaller of the same varieties, when it becomes time to go to the ground.

Cheers.

Both my Red and Chocolate habs have been really finicky. Stick with them and they'll eventually turn the corner. A few of mine never did make the turn??? Everything else would be rocking and they would just sit there. I finally got a few up and running. Try some CalMag, might have to get it at a hydo shop, a drink of that every now and then and they'll spring to life! The rest look BA! Keep 'em going brother!

Shane

What up Ben! I didn't know you had a GLog goin....I guess that is what happens when there are like 40 pages of logs....

BUT...here is just a hint of what is comin

Yeah they are pretty picky. I've been giving them General Hydroponics Cal-Magic, but I am watching them a lot closer than the others. I'm sure they will turn out in the end but we'll see.

Matt.. I can't wait!

Matt also told me that it would be a good idea to pot up ASAP so that is what I did today. All in Fox Farms Ocean Forest. But I'm at my picture limit so I will try after posting this first.

Now you can post the other two! Matt is a freaking great guy! I love this site. Some of the most generous folks you'll ever meet. Looks like they came through with flying colors! Maybe a little yellow from 3 days in the dark, but you'll change that quick enough! Nice score my friend!

I think he meant "shamelessly"....

Yeah there were cardboard inserts for keeping soil in place, worked pretty good. I have the plants mostly getting indirect sun for the first couple days and I have started to give them more direct now.

Hi Ben
How's your garden growing down in San Diego? Have you got any of your plants in the ground yet?
They are not in the ground yet but I'm working on the garden area all week. I have dug out an area 25 x 13 feet to a depth of 2.5 feet and currently working on amending the soil now and filling it back up. I didn't get any shots yesterday of the total depth but here are some in progress shots.

The shots don't reall show it's size. Or the beyond tired and sore person who dug it out

Aye, yi, yi! That's a lot of work! But the better you prepare the bed, the better results you'll get. How many bales of peat moss did you put in? Have you had your soil tested to find out what you need for soil amendments? I knew my soil was very poor in phosphate and somewhat poor in magnesium so I added a 27 pound bag of bone meal to my 6 x 24 foot plot.

Nice job hooda! Prepping that deep will make a huge difference in root development...which should pay of triple in pods later on. You're going to have some monster plants in that plot!
