hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

So today i just transplanted my first set of seedlings that are about 3 weeks old now and have started my new seeds I just got from pepperlover.com today.

3 week old peppers are:

Manzano
Gochu
Caribbean Red
Jalapeno
Cayenne
Bhut Jolokia
Fatalii
Aji Lemon
Aji Chuncho
Tepin
Red Habanero
Scotch Bonnet TFM
Maui Thai
7 Pod Yellow

Transplants were done a bit early for some but I think it was for the best as they were all in jiffy pellets and some of the seedlings were starting to root past the pellet and starting to dry out faster than I was comfortable with.

Pepperlover.com was awesome and threw in Orange Hab, Red Hab, and Aji Chuncho with my order

Also all of the seedlings I'm growing I still have extra seeds if anyone is interested in some trades.

Aye, yi, yi! That's a lot of work! But the better you prepare the bed, the better results you'll get. How many bales of peat moss did you put in? Have you had your soil tested to find out what you need for soil amendments? I knew my soil was very poor in phosphate and somewhat poor in magnesium so I added a 27 pound bag of bone meal to my 6 x 24 foot plot.
The only thing I have gotten to is breaking up the soil a bit more at the final depth and have added a bit of compost ands other organic material. The only test I have are the cheap ones for soil, since I haven't looked in to a full test yet, or really know if it'll make that much difference. I'll update more as things progress quickly through this weekend.

Soil tests make a huge difference! If nothing else, it confirms that you don't have to go to the time and expense of adding soil amendments. The test is a fraction of what you'd spend on them. If you do need them it means the difference between a fair harvest and a great one. Cheers!

Yeah you know you are right. I think I might be letting this article I read on San Diego gardening influence my judgement too much, which was really informative, but I really should just have the full test done. I'll look in to it tonight. Thanks.

Wow, I am glad I made the decision that I did! Looks like you are prepping a great home for your plants, gonna be monsters pretty soon.

Hi Ben
How's it going on the gardening front? Have you finished prepping your garden yet? Planted out? Inquiring minds want to know...

I took a break over this past weekend, but got back to work on filling that massive hole, this week I'm pretty much done filling in the hole with mass amounts of compost and peat. I plan to have all the drip irrigation and plants on the ground by Saturday evening. I'll get new pictures when I get home after work today.

Ok a day late but here is the shot of the garden area that has been filled back in with just over a cubic yard of compost, 12 cubic feet of peat moss, and 3.5 pounds of blood meal, so far. I still have to remove some plant material from the area but I should be planting and drip irrigating tomorrow, if all plans come together.

Wow! That plot looks great and I am jealous of those plants! They look just about as perfect as can be. Can't wait to watch them really take off.

Outstanding Man! Looks like after putting all this effort into it you're gonna be able to talk smack about your garden for sure. Is that your Gochus blossoming on the bottom left of the group shot?

Well they better! For all the blood and sweat I put in for their new home lol. The plants you sent me I have been watching them closely, but they are doing great and are probably now ready for some leg room.

I'll post some updates tomorrow.

That is my Cayenne, the upper left one that is flowering is a Gochu, and the one to the right of it is also, which is about to open some flowers.

Wow your babies are looking :hot:!!! Great stuff my man! Your soil recipe sounds pretty on point! I would still try a PH test before you put them in the dirt so you can add a little sulfur if you need it. Might not need it with the addition of all that peat! Plus, your soil should hold nutes and moisture really well! Can't wait till you put all those babies in their new bed to watch your results!

Yeah I have tested the soils ph and it is high, so I'm going to add something to bring it down a point when I plant today.

Ok! Plants are in the ground finally! I didn't start planting until about 2 pm today because it was really hot out with no breeze. Took me about 4 hours with many breaks lol.

Behold my non straight rows!

While doing all this I got the smoker going and smoking some chicken and some ribs rubbed down with a rub my girl made with some of my manzano powder in it. The smoking wood is nectarine. Also this shot is for you Shane!

Got those babies all nestled in their new bed! Wish I could keep liking that post over and over. Can't wait to see them do back flips for you as they reach toward the sky!

Just got some out of the smoker myself!!!

Got all these for $10 at the farmer's market today! Almost 4 lbs!

So I got the drip irrigation setup today. Pretty straight forward install. I still have to stake down the lines before I cover the garden with some straw. On to the shots.

And here is a powder I made with nectarine smoked manzanos, mixed with turmeric and some salt.

Taste test. Smokey with huge manzano flavor with the heartiness of the turmeric finish. Oh yeah.
