How r ur peppers going in Perth west oz?

Im not getting leaf drop really, im getting the opposite, my plants are finally flowering and looks like they might hold...hopefully i grow my first superhot.


My cayenne is going crazy thought, i pulled it out of pot and put it in the ground and its double size in a few weeks and has so many flowers.
 
Well,

I've learnt a lot this season. The highlights being:

1. Next season I'll start 'em early - probably indoors in August.
2. Don't water the living shit out of them.
3. Powefeed/Seasol combo every couple of weeks increases growth dramatically.
4. I'm going to have to accept that my balcony isn't ideal conditions - ill get some slightly shredded leaves - but at least I know I can produce peppers up here.

This thing is podding up like crazy but WTH is it? Ignore the stuff to the lower right - different plant.

Very slow grower here - finally starting to flower. It's quite a squat plant with leaves really close together on the stem. Again, lost the label early, hoping for a Hab of some sort but it could also be a Bhut or any number of other Chinenses.

Mine are actually looking good today. I think the nutrients in the soil they've been sucking up all season are finally spent, because they foliage thinned out and started to go yellow. So I've been showering them with seasol, fish and kelp and some liquid potassium once a week, and they are all bushy and green again today. We've had some easy going weather as well so nothing to stress them.

Looking green is great but I did a small harvest today and had to throw out 60% of the pods because of bugs, and they aren't producing nearly as many pods as they should be. I haven't got the ferts for fruiting sorted out. Can't complain, because the aphids are completely gone and there are still pods lurking.
 
Does anyone want some free plants? They are all established and just going into the second wave of fruit. I got Douglah, Trinidad Scorp, butch T, yellow 7 pod, Jalapeño to name a few. Let me know, I'm moving to Brisbane next month so I want to see these plants go to a loving home.

Well I've decided to start winding down my season , I know I know it's early but due to bugs and the mess it's making and lack of pods I can use its finally taken its toll. For my first season I think I did ok and have to thank everyone who helped ,commented and just stirred the pot :beer: . Going to keep a few going and want to try my hand at bonsai chilli. But gunna prep for a mega veg winter :) but keep the thread going boys and girls and may ur pods be hot and plentiful .

Howdy Kev,

I haven't had any problems with ants in the Channel.
Found they don't get attacked by aphids etc as much as the pots so the ants tend to leave them alone.
I used to have big problems with ants faming aphids on my plants and they had a congo line happening up the stalks and through he pots too.
I punished myself for about 4 years with this using pyerethrum and other organic sprays then said F%&#@ it.
I went over to Confidor and have never had the problem since. It's excellent to go organic but when u work for 8hrs a day and u have to spray very often with organic sprays on about 200 plants I found it way too hard and the bugs were having a field day!
Wicked looking Reaper there too. Looking forward to getting this one going and having a taste test of thesucker.

Hey lavatung, I would be interested in some of the plants if you have any left.

I am looking into the super hots as seeds but if you have established plants that could give me a head start then that would be awesome.
 
That's looking good, I am getting major leaf drop at the minute, might need to check to do some checking..

When does the growing season start to slow down here in perth?

I know ! What's going on? I'm pretty sure last year autumn was just more summer weather. Don't want to sound like a wuss, lots of other people have to deal with snow and real cold crap, but Perth is supposed to be summer town damn it.
 
If you think its cold in Perth, you should see the difference the 3-4 degrees cooler down in Bunbury makes it!

Oddly, though, my plants, hammered as they are by wind on my balcony, are fruiting like crazy in the cooler weather compared to the ones getting heaps of sun and lots of shelter at mum's place in Perth. Go figure.
 
G'day all! New member, first post... was checking out the net for info on chilli growing in Perth, found this thread and have been reading it the last couple of nights.

Got to page 19 and felt I should probs say howdy. Howdy! Picked up a ton of knowledge so far and I've still got 20 - 47 to go!

Got a few chillis on the go, some newbies, some older ones on the mend due to a bad case of overlovin'.... Cayenne, jalapeno, hop lat(?) scotch bonnett, bhut jolokia, jonah 7 pod, butch t, morugas, fatali.. that's it for now I think! Went and got myself some Green Life soil today, looks, feels and smells the biz, so fingers crossed...

Not got much knowledge to offer except what NOT to do :doh: so I'll just keep on lurkin about but cheers all for the info gained thus far.
