Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
Just wanted to drop by to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I'm a neophyte pepper grower and connoisseur living in Covina, CA (about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.) I'm a 3rd year solo practice attorney struggling to make a dent in my student loans, and I've found gardening to be a *mostly* enjoyable diversion from my somewhat stressful professional life. (I've had some frustrating setbacks involving mostly over zealous use of a lawnmower by my land lord's gardener and an invasion of fruit rats that decimated my tomatoes last year.)
Anyhow, I'm glad to have found this site, as it appears to be a great community and resource. I recently was searching the interwebs to try to find a reputable source for bhut jolokia seeds when I discovered information about the Trinidad scorpion and got very intrigued by the idea of growing super hots, primarily for use in hot sauces. After deciding I didn't trust online seed banks to send me the real deal, and after trying to find a nursery that carried Trinidads or other superhots, I found myself here.
I grew a habanero plant with mixed results last year, but got what I thought was a respectable crop and ended up making 3 batches of sauce. I'm intrigued by the possibilities of using superhots in sauces since hypothetically you can use a small amount of pepper and still get a nice kick, really opening up the possibilities with the flavors. I also had been meaning to find a gardening site to find information on my hab, which has been suffering, but I'll probably start a thread for it. Unfortunately for the hab, ontop of its ongoing struggles with severely "taco"d leaves, it got caught in a freak hail storm and burried under 2 inches of ice. Most of the leaves were knocked off....I think it may be done for.
