Yah I will most likely buy them from the source, its a bit early for me to buy seeds as I have some big bills that won't wait and I have to look at a health care Insurance that will handle more of my medical bills. Once they are out of the way I will get some seed.
What is interesting is the whole DNA thing along with genetic mapping and running test that every one would be happy with, if that is even possible. Just how many documented and reliable labs are there that can do the job and what the hell is that going to cost? I think what ever the cost it would be well worth the trouble to put all this to rest.

I am going to try to get to the bottom of this for everyone's sake. This is not taking sides in any way this is beneficial to everyone and should cut to the chase.

Joe, is there proof of the SHU rating of said tested pepper as in copies of lab results that you are going to publish, or Guinness certification and/or lab results that you are going to publish? If so, when and where?

Or

Are the results to remain unpublished and the numbers in the press release are the extent of your release of information regarding SHU of said tested pepper?

Please let us know so the bickering can stop and members can buy/discuss based on proof or trust.

Thank you!

Is this discussion on the supposed new world record champ or otherwise known as aka Carolina Reaper Pepper?

if so I don't see why anyone would want a pepper hotter then the Morouga

also if the pepper joe seeds are really expensive just all chip in together and buy a few to grow
then only give seeds away to people who do the same.. problem solved

Hey Mod,
I just copy and posted this to Ed. He works full time in the Banking industry.
My vote is to release the information from Winthrop University right away.
I'm only part of the team...I posted a pic of the entire team that worked on this project and have a vested interest in the Carolina Reaper and will post pics again now. Along with other pics from that visit to the University.Ed goes to the University weekly and has for many years. He's put a significant amount of work into the testing.
Still Again, I'm one vote.
Ed gets final say...and of course he plans on releasing the information....when he's ready.
I'd like it to be sooner rather than later...but it's his call and I support him on it 100%.
I'll tell you what I do know. I traveled to the Winthrop University and our entire team met with Professor Cliff Calloway. He explained the entire process of the testing and how many years he's been doing it. (I even understood a lot of it lol) I saw the equipment close up and personal. We were there for 3 hours. Bottom line: That's the extent of what I know on testing. I'm not privvy to reports/final numbers. But I want to say this loud and clear...Professor Calloway and Ed Currie seem 100% credable and men of high integrity. The ball is in Ed's court on this now.
On the Guinness certification. There was a lot of debate on that process and how it works in my original post back in February and several of the HATERS had BIG opinions with SMALL knowledge. THEY WERE ALL WRONG about the Guinness process.
It amazes me how these handful of people know so much about how Guiness works when they have '0' first hand knowledge and we have a TON of it. Bottom line on Guiness is this...There has been ongoing submissions and communication with Guiness from Ed Currie and Bob Nunnencamp, one of the partners and previous executive with Pepsi Cola. They expressed to me WAY BACK IN February their frustration with Guiness moving slow and getting expensive. I said it before and I'll say it again (2nd hand knowledge...but close up) Guiness is NOT a Charity. They are a for profit Organization that sells beer too and they want to make money. They can add in Fast track fees, adjunctuator fees, marketing fees (you can pay to fly a Guinness Exec over here to support you with your project...if you put up the $$$) This is NOT FREE or CHEAP as some THP members have said. To think it is free or inexpensive is preposterous. It has turned out to be a frustrating and arduous process. (some other folks say Guiness responds to business in the UK much faster than us here in the USA) Ed again can speak to this. Look, with or without Guiness validation we have the Hottest Pepper in the world by tested weighted average over many years of documented testing. I can't swear to the high number. In my opinion it is NOT about the high number that cannot be duplicated. It is about the AVERAGE or MEAN number.... THAT is what can be duplicated in the average gardeners back yard....that's what counts! And the way that Ed has kept the weighted averages within a tight, statistical range (200,00 SHU I believe) that is critical. The average guy can grow a very hot pepper with a bunch of taste. In my opinion the Hottest he's ever grown. That gardener isn't interested in one off numbers that he CANNOT duplicate....he really doesn't care about that. But for all I know Ed can publish a one off that will blow your mind.
Bottom line on Guinness....they are not pepper experts, but they are an excellent credability enhancer. So my vote was to continue the process. And we are. We'll see how that plays out.
Also, besides hard numbers data (which I prefer) there is also testimonial data. Two of the most credable and highly respected sources in this industry give a glowing video review which now resides in the Promotion Category on THP. Please visit there and see Mike McDermotts review and Scott Roberts review of the Carolina Reaper.

Hey Mod look...many people on my team as well as even Ed ask me whey I jump right in and keep answering this stuff...when all folks need to do is be patient and wait. These dozen haters didn't EVEN BUY THE SEEDS (most of them are just traders)....they have no vested interest...they just want to see us fail and say "I told you so". Newsflash to the Haters....we won't fail. Both companies will grow and do well and prosper.
Pepper Joe's has been doing a great business before HP22b and the Reaper.
I'm taking this time Mod because YOU asked for it...and I'm always concerned that some Newbies or Visitors to THP see some erronious statements, and just may believe them.
Here's those pics I promised of the testing process at the Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Thank you once again Joe for taking your time to answer all the questions AGAIN.

now lets beat the hell of that horse AGAIN
DUde, he did not answer the questions "again" the main questions have NEVER been answered. all he did was point the finger to Ed that he has the info and will release it when he is ready.
Hey Joe, why do you keep calling the people that keep asking for you guys to PROVE to us that your claim to "WORLDS HOTTEST" is a valid claim haters??? we are not hating we are asking for PROOF to your claim. i have not bought seeds as i want proof to the claim not someones word. Also you mention in your statement that you dont know about the high test result but the mean is more important as this is what the backyard grower can expect. Yes, but if your test results do not show more than 2M you cannot claim "worlds hottest" and all the seeds you have sold to that point were sold under false pretense.

now, i am not hating, i am stating my opinion and some questions and concerns i have about what is going on, and what needs to be done before i buy seeds.

For the sake of seeing how much you are investing in research & production I can see why your seed prices might be a tad high..
at first I was thinking *we are dealing with a downright Stingey seed distributer*

conclusion.. that doesn't change anything for hobby pepper growers who just enjoy growing and sharing peppers with friends.
set your prices too high and your setting yourself up for failure.. that's up to you.

<edit>prey I don't get my hands on your seeds because I will give them out like santa clause gives toys
I would torrent them on the pirate bay if I could  </edit>

+1 -- And even using their info that they have been pushing with a mean of 1.474 SHU and a variance of under 200K SHU that would seem to point to a high in the 1.5 - 1.6 million SHU no where near 2 Million -- which is most likely why they are not releasing it as that would show they are exaggerating the claim by saying "WORLD's Hottest Pepper" and it is all simply designed to sell more seeds. If they had real evidence to prove the Claim they'd be showing it everywhere as it would help sales -- the only reason to not release it is if the test results do not back up the Claim !!

Ill second that I am not hating, but if you are going to make a claim be prepared to back it up or be prepared for criticism. I don't believe anyone anywhere here has said they want your company's to fail. As a customer that purchased said seeds, I feel like an idiot for doing so now that I am in this "hater group" way to treat a customer. Your terminology of "hater" is not applicable to most here as they have developed an opinion of you based on your actions and words which have been rather distasteful and un-businesslike. We cannot develop any kind of objective opinion on the pepper it self due to lack of information, which it seems is being intentionally with held. That in it of itself infers something, and if you do not like that then be prepared to release info. I understand that is not up to you. Now furthermore your statement

"I'm always concerned that some Newbies or Visitors to THP see some erronious statements, and just may believe them."\

Well at this point you have no proof otherwise, its every consumers god given right to hear what at this point are the facts, Which there is no facts.

Also, "haters" "Newbies" etc. Would not go around using those if I was representing a business even if it was McDonald's . Maybe you should be more concerned about the image of said pepper and company's that you are portraying by using slang, making stereotypes, using all capital letters and yelling gives the impression you have anger issues, and by your atrocious spelling. The only reason I am mentioning this is because of your concern about erroneous statements and information should apply to yourself as well if you are so concerned about it.

Yes Ive got a bit of a chip on my shoulder after supporting your pepper and then being labeled a term with less than desirable meanings.

The fees that Guiness charges for there extra services are all postet at their web site and are well known and identical for all submitters.
Nothing very expensive if you compare what HPLC and other lab works costs, if you test over years.

I know a laboratory very well and have been working with HPLC for years, same pictures can be seen at the CPI and all HPLC equipment looks the same for people not familiar with the stuff.
If the equipment is suited and the whole process is certified ??? the results should be ok.
If the process is not certified the data are not valid and must be confirmed by a certified lab

Besides this, I dont think that 1.400.000 SCU will get the record.
A record is the highest value ever measured, no need to show an average over a certain time.
A 100m runner gets the record when he once is the fastest - no need to show it several times
A pumpkin gets the record when it shows the highest weight and the farmer doesnt need to grow it several times and estimate a mean.

So Joe, I´m quite sure you will fail and will not get the record, because the morouga with his > 2.000.000 SCU couldnt be beaten.

This is the reason why we read a lot of explaining words and cannot see any numbers.

Thank You for answering all questions in detail!

Peter

mix the dna from a morouga with a
Bhut Jolokia -then to a-
Trinidad Yellow 7 -then to a-
Brain Strain -then to a-
Bishop's Crown

I might buy that for 5 bucks

R there really this many pages, anyone is free to message me or call, but know I work from 530 am til 3 and have a nine month old, besides 30 acres of fields. So if I don't answer I'll call you back. As soon as I get a soft copy of the updated data we r sending to Guinness , I will post it here first, joe is a good man, thanks for being there brother
