HURRICANE SANDY.... how are ya'll doing....

just wanted to see a heads up and see how the east coast is doing... hows the area youre in affected...

hope all is well.. that ya'll are ok and get power soon... to all those in that area.. praying for a quick recovery....

I got very lucky. Very little damage. Never lost power even though everyone around me did. Nothing more than a drippy roof at some spots.

Can you believe that Sandy was blowing Lake Michigan up with 20 ft waves on the Wisconsin shore?

Talk about a nasty damn storm and big as well---this is crazy.

Global warming is not just a scientific warning---it is a real human destruction of our environment. We are the dinosaurs who peed in our soup soon to be extinct.

Global warming is definitely real.

How much mankind has impacted the event is still somewhat in question.

No doubt we've had impact - but it's not like the Earth has been stable since its formation.

We currently live in an Interglacial period. That's the time between ice ages. The Earth has had them before & the Earth will have them again.

As sad or shocking or horrific as it might sound, there will be another ice age. And the ones in the past weren't caused by man either.

Is it possible that we are accelerating this? Absolutely possible. Are we causing this? Only as much as we're causing the Earth to spin on its axis.

I'm not one of those right wing "global warming is a myth!" guys - I fully acknowledge the change in climate and believe global warming is happening.

But I see it as more a natural cycle of the unstable planet we live on. And a lot of the propaganda is politicians latching onto the issue a a political tool for one side or the other. In the end I seriously doubt politics will save the planet regardless of Man's efforts. The Earth has other plans.

I wonder what the next dominant species wil be, and whether they'll invent hot sauce. Hope so!
:woohoo:

Back on topic, I also extend my thoughts & prayers for everyone in harm's way back east. My personal friends & family are thankfully all ok - some damage but nothing that can't be fixed.

I hope all the THP-ers out there are safe & warm.

I just read that 4 deaths were caused by flying tree branches & other debris.

Please - if the news says to stay inside, stay inside!

No kidding! KCAL, one of our local channels this morning was showing a video that a guy took from inside his house showing trees falling all around his house. Pretty cool, and scary at the same time. Anyways, one of the trees ends up hitting his car and the news anchor while watching the video comments, "Wouldn't you go and move your car so that wouldn't happen?" The other news anchors just look at him like he's an idiot. "No you don't go outside when it's like that!" one of them ends up saying.
Was pretty funny cause one of them says, "Well, I see who does the parenting at your house..."

We are in SoCal BTW so we have an excuse.

Devastation all around me. I was lucky. Many areas look like war zones. My bandmate has no home. Gonna help him rebuild. I'm not sure the rest of the world knows how bad this is. There's a lot on the local news here that I don't see on the national. Thoughts and prayers going out to all affected.

That's sad to hear THP. I wish I could help your bandmate.
Our reports are pretty much what you posted, along with miles and miles of car lines waiting to get gas, neighbors helping each other, and the NYC marathon is still a go. hmmm not sure how I feel about that one when 5 states don't have power, water and food.
I like to see the neighbors all helping each other tho.

Our thoughts are with all of you.

Yeah his house is flooded with sewage and the boiler and electric panel are gone (well there's no power anyway yet) and the neighborhood is full of looters. His family is safe in a hotel as he protects his home.

On the marathon, I'm not trying to get into political discussion, but the mayor should cancel that shit, I really can't imagine a bunch of smiling people jogging through disaster zones. Are they supposed to wave to the helpless? Why not stop and help? Just sayin'! I think the best word is awkward.

That's whack. Really. Marathon. ?! Why not run to the aide ofif your fellow human beings. Thoughts and prayers to those affected. May life continue and Recover quickly.

As a devils advocate - there are runners from all over the world and their families /sponsors that are in NY already which may have cost them thousands that they may or may not have. Im on the fence on this, I see where Bloomberg wants to keep moving forward but, there is devastation just outside the city limits - They should have The Hunger Games instead of a Marathon (too early?) Generators seem better suited to those who need them as opposed to the race.
The rats should be moving up to dry land and soon take over

I and mine are fine, but this area (Cleveland, OH) did receive "fun" from Sandy. The system that came from the west and eventually merged with Sandy to make it as large as it became initially parked itself over our area, creating a lot of rain. When it merged with Sandy Monday night, Lake Erie whipped up with the hurricane winds, and local rivers and low-lying areas flooded. The low pressure has hung around, and we've continued to have rain today, and are supposed to have it tomorrow. Streets are closed in various areas due to the flooding and/or trees down. There were many homes and businesses without power, though much has been restored by now. I am grateful the only impact on me has been having to take detours around flooded areas as I go to and from the downtown area.

And agree - marathons are nice, good-will gestures intended to bring people together when there's no other reason to come together. There's plenty of reason for people to come together now without the hype of a marathon.

The devastation is not "outside the city limits" it is in NYC. NYC is Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island. The picture I posted is in Queens. The marathon course goes through all five boroughs, here take a look: http://www.ingnycmar..._Map_ForWeb.pdf

They will be running through areas of no power, no homes, etc. There are people with no homes in hotels being told they have to check out due to a previous reservation, for the thousands of marathon runners and spectators coming to town.

Just postpone it. Inconvenience the runners, not the homeless. He can still use it to raise money for victims, just not right now.
