I ate the Naga Morich (pics)

So how does the Naga taste??? Besides HOT! Does it have a similar "fruit" flavor to the Habanero? I am patiently waiting to get my seeds and grow them (I know no-one around here will be selling them). Contemplating a new HOT hot sauce.

It's strange... I find them less fruity like a hab and more like....hmmm ?????? Well, it's just different. They do have that Capsicum Frutescens thing lurking. And how could this be possible? Well, Dave Dewitt reported that the Naga Morich has some Capsicum Frutescens genes in addition to the Chinense genes. Interesting. Let's just say the taste is very unique.

They taste like a green apple to me. The inside wall of th epepper has an interesting texture to it too. Nothing like your usual habaneros, it's silky and smooth.

It is standing up. In one pic you'll notice that I've got my hands in my hair, I basically gabbed a hold of my hair pritty hard because of the heat and it made my hair messy.
I'm in Hollywood, CA and it was October. So I would say humitity is around 10-28% and the temp around 85-93. Although it took about two months to ripen so the temps were much higher in the beginning.

That thing is tiny! But, I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one here. I can't wait to see the video dude!

Well I couldn't wait till they changed color. Here's my daughter Glenda trying 1/4 of a green one on YouTube:

Wow she did pretty good with it.....does her nose always turn that red?? lol!!! I can't even get my daughter to eat a Habanero let alone a Naga Morich!!!lol

Cool video. Poor gal..I felt her pain. So what did it cost you to get her to eat it? Looks like she handled it at least as good as IGG. I would have probably imploded.

Cost me $10 which is already alot of $ here for a kid. It was that or $40 to eat a whole red 1 that I dried in the oven for maximum punishment. Thought i'd give her a break though.

Watch out for the next challenge when I get some red ones.

Wow,

I cannot believe how long this thread has got. Just think imaguitar god, hardly anyone had heard of the Naga Morich this time last year. Here is a link to more pictures of these firebombs from my private collection( images as featured on UK Televison on Christmas day  ).

I tasted some Bih Jolokia pods the other day. Are these different varieties? My view is that they are slightly different strains of some unknown Assam/Bangladeshi pepper but I swear the Nagas are just that little bit hotter. :mouthonfire: :mouthonfire:

Imaguitargod - Maybe you should get them HPLC tested and earn yourself a place in the Guinness Book of Records

PS If anyone still needs any seeds, I would recommend my friend Tony at Nagaseeds.

PPS Ive eaten Naga Morich pods raw and its not clever and definately not pretty. Ive also suffered from the dread Hunan 'Naga' Hand after slicing up a couple of pods. Getting your $*5^ blow torched would be less painful. It still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Darlochileman,

You are one of the original growers and your pics have been seen internationally. I am impressed that your chilis are so uniform in size and shape. I'm a newbie naga grower and my 1st nagas are all different shapes and sizes. Why do you think that is?

I must say that I tasted a piece of the 1 in the video and it nearly blew my head off! Can't wait to taste it ripe!

After eating the Naga, have your tried eating other chili's like thai dragon? I guess my question is, after the Naga, do the other chili's seem not quite as hot as before?

I aimed to be the first "documented" person on the internet to have eaten it...and I did.

Yep, I've eaten alot of peppers since. They seem the same as far as heat, but I have in the back of my mind that they aren't the hottest thing I've eaten. But slowly, as my tollerance builds, they seem not as hot as what they were a year ago.
