I Fear Disaster Has Struck 080408

I'm pretty sure that if they didn't get affected yet and haven't had a drink for 2 days, they'll be fine. Looks like you made it through this crisis with just a shiner instead of every bone broken. I'm very glad to know that! Let me know if you need any seeds except for the Dutch Red and Yellow!!!

Potawie's right, H2O2 kills all organics, including beneficials.

I treat my nutrient water w/H2O2 and let it sit for 24 hrs min before use. You can do the same and at least have no pathogens in your water, a known disease vector.

H2O2 goes off to atmosphere in less than 1 hr.

Ya made a Petrie dish mate.

Ya just ran into a firestorm of bad mate..get out the drill and poke soem more holes eh? I save my most-dead Bih and Dorset from evil soil pests by washing off to the roots. ANd using garlic and peroxide. It'a the nateral antibiotic mang. Saved mine.

I hbet you can save a lot of those plants...cut em back to the green...save the roots by washing em out with very weak peroxide solution to kill shit...new soil, etc. If ya have Thrive, use it as a 1/20th spray on thre roots, trhen replant in good soil. I'e saved half dead seedling thatr way.

Give what they need. Nothign more. Under my 4800 lumens of lights that are on 24/7, I only water about every other day or so. It's a gut thing. I feel th4 leaves, and i know, it's needing. I mist daily, but water seldom.

I grew up in organic gardening...there's reason to everything.

IMO, always plant garlic or marigolds next to anything...pests hate it, nad a natural anti-fungal garlic is.

How i killed soil pests? pushed 1/4's of galic cloves allll around each plant.

Within days, they were better, and pests never came back. I also putn crushed garlic in my feed water..rly pised off the bugs bigtime. Nature just works.

You planned for backups...aint ya smart now? ;-)

*trying to spin it good... ;)

gl bro...we'l persevere.

Hey, Quadshots I had aphids that seemed to come back and even after the neem oil a day or two later they'd be back on my plant. I got irritated and tried a concoction off of what you said. I took a spray bottle a used my garlic crusher to crush up a few cloves. I plopped it all in my water spray bottle, shook it up good, let it soak, and then I sprayed my leaves with the solution. I'll have to see how it works. From what I was reading ALOT of bugs hate the stuff. If it works I'm not spending any more money on anything for bugs, except some cheap tasty garlic for the most part:D

Yeah, it's basically just quart or so of warm water, a dab (mebbe 1/4tsp) of ordinary dish soap..not fancy kind, the garlic, and a shot of olive oil to make it all stick.

The full thread with my original links is here: http://www.thehotpepper.com/showthread.php?t=6546&highlight=aphids

I also put in a small bit (prolly 1/8tsp) of epsom salts figuring Heck, it's a foliar spray, why not feed 'em too? :)

cheers,

QS

I didn't add the dish soap or the olive oil in this batch. I may try that in my next one though.:)

IDK if it'll work without the soap aand oil, but ya can try eh?

Let us know how it turns out.

Don't forget to spray the undersides of the leaves too as that's where they hide..really douse it until it drips.

Check flowers inside and out too, they love those. Only takes one aphid to bring 'em all back as they are asexual and reproduce like mad.

GL mate,

today is my off Friday and I am getting ready to start moving plants around...damage is quite extensive but I will still have a good crop...just not as big as I planned...

will take pictures in a couple of hours after I get the plants rearranged...I hate having to add a morgue when I already have a sick bay and ICU...

lol yeah a betty ford centre for pepper plants.....help them get off the juice

You guys crack me up sometimes...

I got the dead/fresh dead/near dead in one area and moved a few plants that are sick to another area...I trimmed the damage off of about another 50 plants and am leaving them where they are at the present time...

Morgue/ICU

Sick Bay

Damaged Scorpions...not really worried about these because there were about 6 or 7 of my scorpions that were almost yellow from birth so they were weak plants anyway...

Once I get some of them on the recovery trail, I will move them to a more "sheltered" place in my yard and totally rearrange the plants....that's gonna be a job...

thats really tragic from the earlier pics of your crop.

Umm something I do is get the dropped leaves out of the pots because they may transfer a virus back into the soil & roots. Also any leaves that you wiggle & they come off...remove - it seems to help the plant regenerate new growth & stops energy loss trying to save the dying ones.

Times like this we need a god of chillies to appease ...the Mayans must have had one, right?

agreed about the leaves in the bottoms of the pots...that is the next project is to remove all the trash from the pots...before this hit, the top of the soil was "clean"...

gonna go google "god of chiles"

I tried that..didn't find much...yet.

This might be a fun read: http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/history/lecture14/lec14.html

How about these ones?

From : http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/Post/106385

Ah Bolom Tzacab - The Mayan god of agriculture, the one who controls the rain and thunder. His name means "the leaf-nosed god", and he was portrayed with a leaf in his nose. He is the so-called 'God K'.

Gucumatz - Mayan god of farming, agriculture, civilization, and domestic matters. He was said to live in heaven and hell at the same time.

(ain't that the truth....;))

good info QS...now that you reminded me of them, I remember seeing a national geographic on the subject of Mayan Gods a long time ago...

I am off to the ranch for the day...going 20 miles north of Ranger, Texas...1300 acres of rugged west texas mesquite/scrub oaks in a hilly terrain..tonights supper is gionog to be grilled rib eyes on the open pit with baked potatos...and a whole slew of hot sauces...yup...you got it...pictures coming tomorrow...have to get back to town in the morning for a 2 o'clock gig...

Have a great Saturday....later all...

Hey, Quad it didn't work to well without the soap and oil. I'm starting to get some again. I'm going to make up "Your batch" and try it out. I'll keep you informed.:)
