OMG, I hope it'll be just that five plants! It's not that this wouldn't be bad enough, but five dead plants are better than all of them dying. You have put so much effort into our hobby, it just wouldn't be fair. Good luck my friend! You deserve it!!!!
My nursery man was right...root rot...I pulled up the scorpion and the root sheath slips down the root....soooooo...I am in big trouble...the soil at the bottom of the pot is almost soggy....very wet...not just moist but wet...I have created this monster myself and have no one to blame but me...now I have to live with it and salvage what I can...the problem is much more widespread than I thought this morning after I can see the plants in full sunlight...right now, it doesn't look like I will lose the whole crop, maybe half....but that will put me back where I first wanted to be this year...150....hopefully...
I am just chalking it up to first year container grower and live with it the best way I can...I think I am going to isolate all the plants that are affected and use a systemic fungicide on them...I won't eat the fruit or give the seeds away, but maybe I will have some for myself next year.
Thanks all for your thoughts. I appreciate you....
my plants look so saggy, wilty, and I want to water them so badly I can taste it...but...I will wait until tomorrow evening before I give them a drink...
had root rot on a couple of tomato plants..so sorry to hear its that A.J really do feel for you..as you had done a lot of work and things where looking great..trust mother nature to give us such a hard lesson..the only thing i can offer is seed for next year my friend if you need any
Man that sucks. All I can say is good luck and hopefully you can still get a great crop. I too lost a lot of plants this year and am always learning something.
AJ...I feel really bad for you my friend, especially since all of the work you have put into your plants. Not to mention having battled (and won) with aphids and sun-scald only to have this happen. If I were nearer to you, I would bring over some "top shelf" beer and something for the grill.
Yeah, I guess everyone learns every year as gardeners. I unnecessarily pulled 70+ plants in late May thinking they were dead due to suspected Bacterial Spot. Stupid me now realizes they were sunburnt and would've recovered just fine.
I truly hope you can salvage some plants AJ and get a nice yield. 150 plants will produce a whole heck of a lot of pods still!!!
It is hard not to water when the plants are wilting but the more you water, the worse the situation becomes...no water for a couple of days for the plants...I just hope they don't burn up in this heat...
All my Bhut Jolokias have been over-watered by the constant rain. The leaf damage is yellowing and some discoloration on the edges. Have them inside now. Only way to keep them dry.
Man, that sucks. Sorry to here about your Pepper troubles AJ. Even when you do everything right, there always seems to be one variable that you cannot control.
Hope things workout for the best. You have one of the nicest pepper patches that I have seen!!!
You know...I have just come in from working with the peppers and trying to decide what to do....I have 93 plants that have got the wilt/dying thing going on...my prize naga plants are not affected yet...what I decided to do was pull the bad growth off the effected plants and just see what happens with a much reduced watering routine...I simply can't believe how wet the soil was in the bottom of the containers...
Now it is a waiting game...the plants are going to get very thirsty...
Oh yeah....one bright spot...I had to pull three superhots from plants that were dying...a T. Scorpion and 2 Bih Jolokias...gonna eat a burger with a slice of Bih and Scropion...back in a while...
Man AJ I hope you can get ahold of it.Good luck and once again a nugget sees how easy it is to get out of hand.I can`t offer much other than we`ll listen to you,,,you listen to you!Best of luck.
AJ, sorry to hear about your misfortune. You said that the bottoms of the containers were still very soggy, if that is the case then I do not believe that they are needing any water right now I think that the wilt is just from the hot days you are having. Did'nt you say you were experiencing temps in the 100's. If anything just give them a quick foilage watering sort of a mist just to get them through the hot afternoon sun. If I have to I will send you fresh pods if you need them but I think you will recover from this with flying colors.
AJ so sorry to hear about your problems but take it one day at a time...maybe letting them dry out a bit will help and getting the bad looking foliage off sure is worth a try. Save what you can and go from there.
