Ignite's 2015 Superhot Grow

Introduction:

Now that things have finally slowed down for a few weeks it's time for me to get my 2015 grow log going.  We had a great year in 2014 and spent a lot of time over the winter upgrading our indoor space and searching out some of the rarest superhots being grown today.  We're growing almost 90 varieties this year but I'm only planning on posting about the superhots and other rare strains here.  I'll probably post random shots of the others here and there, but the main focus of this GLOG is the supers.

We grow select types inside in our indoor "lab".  We usually reserve the best of the best for that area and a few months ago I started a GLOG that focused on those plants.  I didn't have time to keep things updated but I'm going to kill that old thread and focus both indoor and outdoor plants in this thread.

Enough with the long talking, here's what everyone wants to see...the list.

Grow List:

-  Borg 9
-  Chocolate Borg 9
-  Bleeding Borg 9
-  Red Lava
-  Yellow Lava

Progress:

Our indoor hydro plants were started the last weekend in October and have really started to their stride.  We have bleeding Borg 9s, Chocolate BBG7, Red Lava, and Yellow Lava plants currently producing fruit with some that will to start to ripen in the coming weeks.

We started seeds the second week of January and started seeing hooks within a few days.  We ended up with really good germination rates and had around 200 seedlings before we knew it.  A few weeks later we're up to almost 500 superhot plants that are simply thriving under our CMH lights.

We use grow tents early in the year to help contain heat and to provide a nice micro-climate for the young plants to survive in.  Each tent holds about 200 plants in P86D 3.5" pots.

Since it seems to be one of the hottest types out there right now, here's a shot of a young chocolate Borg 9.  These came from true pheno seeds and are not like the non-true bleeding type.  Those are standard red Borg 9 plants surrounding it.

Here is one of the most unique crosses that we're growing this year.  The Bubblegum 7 x Yellow Jalapeno.  These plants are growing twice as fast anything else that we have and this one is special because it's taking on more traits from the Bubblegum 7.  The other 9 plants we have like this are showing typical Jalapeno traits.  We're going to keep a really close eye on this one.

I'll snap some more pictures tonight and I'll keep this thing flowing with updates.  We have a few surprises up our sleeves as well, so stay tuned.

They all look incredible.  Wish mine were that far along, finally found a few tiny pods tonight on a couple, but not much yet.

Thanks!  The plants that are in the top-drip system were started back in October and ran inside under CMH lighting until a month ago, so they had the jump on all of the other plants.  The climate here in SC is really good for peppers, the warmer weather and humidity always sends my plants into overdrive around this time of the year.  Last year we started shipping fresh peppers around the first of June and won't be far off of that target again this year.

I wish I could start mine so soon.  Just don't have the setup for that much indoors growing.  Heck, its only going to be in the mid 50s here tomorrow, so waiting until Thursday to start my last wave of planting out.  I love it down south, hopefully someday will move your direction, or Florida or just anywhere closer to the ocean or gulf of mexico.  I'll keep watching, you got some great varieties going and crazy healthy plants.

I was out browsing around the plants at the house and noticed that one of my hydroponic BBM plants has some nice pods hanging from it...this should be good and hot.  I have a few Big Mustard Mama plants as well, but they haven't started setting any fruit.  I'm anxious to see how the heat on this one compares to the plants grown in our soiless mix.

I have 3 Yellow Lava plants.  One produces very non-Lava like pods but the others are starting to produce good looking specimens.  They're still growing but I should have ripe Yellow pods in the coming weeks!

The Chocolate Brainstrain plants finally started doing their thing and have decided to start producing a ton of peppers.  I don't have a pic with me but I'll get one tonight.  I have a few growing in coco that are being fed high strength nutrients once a day, so I'll have a nice comparison between the soiless, coco, and top-drip plants.

Thanks!

Been following this, must say the plants look BIG and HEALTHY and already producing pods for you.Great job!!!and varieties that are definitely making me jealous...I want some-wishing I had some.I wish you continued success-TOP NOTCH ALL THE WAY!!!

Thanks!  I tried really hard over the last year to collect and grow some of the most unique strains out there.  I think we're going to offer a great selection of supers to sweets this year.  We'll start putting ads up once we have enough ripe pods to start fulfilling orders.  I contemplated holding back on the Borg 9, but we've decided to release it along with a few others.  We're still growing the Chocolate Brainstrain for Cappy, so those are off the table until further notice...but everything else will be available.

Right on Stephen those plants and the strains your growing has got to be the definitive grow of supers anywhere.  We need to talk and compare notes but like you my Chocolate Brain Strain is loaded up with green brainy 7 pod berries.  Looks like I'll have a good summer crop if this great weather we have been having keeps up, sunny and in the low 80's until today.  All your plants look big and beautiful and for a lack of a better term drop dead gorgeous.  The fruit your growing all are impeccable to their genotypes and phenotype, cannot wait to see some comparison pics of the CBS.  Whatever it is they are getting the best life possible under your care and it grows and shows, thank you again brother.  I'll post some green 7 pod porn in my glog also for you to compare, stop in if your down my way.

Here's another quick update:

All of the plants are doing great and are loaded with peppers.  Some of our hydroponic plants are starting to ripen so the potted plants won't be too far behind.  Here's a few new pictures that I snapped today of the gnarliest pods we currently have growing, some of these make me cringe and I like it :)

Troy Primo's BBM.  These are some of the biggest superhot peppers we've ever grown, hands down.  This plant is in one of our top drip hydroponic systems so it should have a little extra kick.

Douglah x Chocolate Butch T Scorpion.  This is one of the gnarliest peppers I've ever grown, absolutely crazy.

Here are some hydroponic Bubblegum 7 pods that are ripening up, beautiful color.

Thanks for looking!

I noticed that Cappy posted pictures of his Chocolate Brainstrain plants producing pods in somewhat of an unusual manner, so here are some shots of mine doing the same thing. Almost every plant is doing this so we'll see if they change as the season goes on.

Beautiful plants and pods. I love how uniform they are even at early stages.

Thanks,
Stephen

Fantastic list! Will be fallowing!

Everything just looks amazing. Hope everything keeps growing great

I've finally gotten my hands on some true choc brain strain seeds. They're currently in the dirt. A bit late to start seeds but I couldn't wait. John Ford is growing/selling Judy's choc brain strain. He's releasing seeds this Fall and has them up for pre-order but he released a very few packs early one night last week and I was lucky enough to snag one. Pretty damn excited!

Is the Yellow Lava part of Judy's Lava collection? I keep seeing some people on FB post it but no info on if it's one of hers or from some other source and just shares the name.

To my knowledge Judy has not released the chocolate brainstrain. John had a Brazilian version that originated from another grower. John also has a brown version that he has been hyping up. I'm growing John's brainstrain and it definitely has a different shape and look than Judy's version.

The Yellow Lava is a variant that popped up. There have been red, yellow, chocolate, black, and caramel versions.

Thanks,
Stephen

Stephen also heard of green version of the LAVA as well.

John has 3 versions of the choc brain strain. The brazilian (unreleased), a chocolate brain strain hybrid (unreleased but I won a few in a giveaway he had) and Judy's chocolate brain strain (can pre-order on his website and releasing this Fall) I got 6 seeds when he released a few packs early last week. John has said they ARE Judy's chocolate brain strain. The "true"  geno and pheno. She gave him seeds to grow and the seeds he's selling are from the seeds she gave him from my understanding. Just repeating what he has told everyone and what he's selling them as. I would think if he was lying someone would have called him out but hey anything is possible. I guess only him and Judy would know but I'd think if he wasn't being honest and Judy called him on it his rep would take a hit. Again just going by what he is telling everyone on FB that they are Judy's. Will post pics if I get any pods this season.

Here's a weekly update: June 9, 2015

Our plants at the farm took a pretty hard about 2 weeks ago due to high temps and no rain.  The float valve in our large 600 gallon tank failed to work correctly so the plants didn't get any water for almost 6 days while enduring 90F temps in very dry soil.  I may have lost a few plants, but they were sweets and milds that I was growing for my wife and the family so it will be okay if they don't bounce back :)  Things are starting to ripen up at the farm and we have been picking jalapeños, bell peppers, and other non-supers for about a week now.  Some interesting things are happening on the superhot front that I'm pretty excited about.

The Yellow Brainstrains have started to ripen and have taken a very nice shape this year.  We chose seeds from the best pods last year in hopes of getting a more consistent shape and size.  So far so good!

YellowBS.jpg

The special supers growing at the house are looking very nice and really seem to like the hotter weather we've had lately. All of the plants are covered in pods and they should start turning colors very soon.  Our first Borg 9 and 7 Pot Katie will go out for review along with some of the others we have growing this year.  The hydroponic plants are now on a 15 minute on / 30 minute off drip cycle during daylight hours to keep them happy during the heat of the day.

The Red Borg 9 and Chocolate Brainstrain plants are each producing very uniform pods across all of the plants, which is great!  I started cloning the Red Borg plants this week with plans to go from 10 to around 30 by the end of the month.  The new ones won't produce until later in the season but that's okay because we have a long growing season.

Thanks and enjoy!
