I only like 4-5 hours from Flagstaff. You should be here before lunch time.

I'm probably leaving flagstaff at around 7am so that should work out just right. I can't wait.

No really I can't wait. This is going to truly be an adventure. Nothing but good will come of this trip.

Bummer! Be carefull! ANd just remember, sometimes you have to do the steering with the rear drive wheels, with minor steering input!

Oh ya, I've been in spin outs before and know how that goes. Really scary and trick situations.

So, I'm looking at my packaged up stuff and thinking about my car. I may end up shipping another box or two back to the folks. You really don't realize how much stuff you accrue after living in a house for 4 years. I'm going to have to do a trial run with the boxes in the car to see what I can fit.

Oh ya, I went to register the Buick in California (just so it's fully in my name) to avoid any problems with cops in other states (I know you don't have to have a car registered in a state you do not live in but cops are ass holes and I want to avoid any hassle). Well it turns out everytime you transfer ownership of a vehicle in LA you have to have it Smogged (Smog Check as it's officially know). Even if the car was just smogged and has up to date tags (which mine was)!

What a racquet, man! So, now I have to spend another $60 to get it smogged in addition to the $36 registration fee (I only bought the car for $100) plus all my time to go get it and present it to the DMV. God I hate the system.

That's crap. You ought to ship your Mother here and just end your trip.

Annual smog fee....$24. The car could change hands 16 times that year, and the certificate would still be good.

IGG, post a link to that heater you bought for the car. Will this heater be able to defrost the windshield or do you think the cars defroster might be able to handle that?

I live in central Illinois (close to Peoria), so if you need anything just yell. If you PM me I will give my cell. I have a rot, pit & 2 boston terrors that occasionally stay over, but they will keep you warm.

Anyway, with all of that said... If I was in your situation with the car and all of that... sell the car, ship most of the boxes you have and get a bus ticket. With the price of gas to gas it is going to cost a small fortune to get there.

Driving with a working defrost in this crap is bad enough... I can't imagine going without.

I would be willing to give to your fund if you decide to take the bus.

Something to think about... let me know what your route is also.

Take care!

Here's the link. I did a ton of research and this is actually the best model. This one doesn't blow out your car lighter or ctach on fire. It's also powerful enough to keep the car semi-warm and defrost the windows.

"We are marching to peoria! Peoria! Peoria!".......ah, good old song.

I'm allergic to dogs, but if I need an emergency place to stop when I'm in the area I'll give you a jingle (I don't have a cell for you to call me back though......) I'll send you a PM.

I'm figuring around $400 for gas at the most. But keep in mind that this trip isn't about saving money, it's about the adventure. I've always wanted to go cross country and this is my chance and I need to take it.

Man, it naver sceses to amaze me how generous people are in the hot sauce world. Thank you Baldman. You have touched a heart string. I do have enough money saved up for this trip so if needs be I can take a bus, but thank you for the offer.

Once I map things out here in the next few days I'll post my route.

I hear ya about the adventure, but going by bus is old school adventure... haha!

I can not stress enough how nasty it is driving around here with a vehicle that has a great heater... 20 miles to work can be enough to wear me out if my wiper blades freeze up and don't clear the windshield...

Anyway, wish you luck with your trip and will keep an eye/ear out for you.

I replied back to the PM.

Also... FWIW I don't think that heater will help with the windows, but in an emergency it will at least keep you warm.

I just want you to see that it is all not roses.

The train is even more old school :) Do we even have trains to travel on anymore??

My main problem is I get extremely motion sick at the drop of a hat. Buses are rough and trains are even worse. I'm decent on plains as long as I load up on meds (or alcohol ;) ).

Unless I'm in the drivers seat, the ride can get very bad for me ;(

Well, we'll see! It's all part of the adventure. If things REALLY get bad, I'll just stop into some local place and have them fix the heater. It looks to be that I'll have some funds for just such cases.

Of course it's not all roses. It's winter time and snowing. They've all gone into hibernation...........hehehehehe ;) (I know what you meant and I appreciate the advice bro!)

Better late than never....

Have a safe trip IGG. After u get settled in go over to Dennys Beer Barrel Pub off of 80 in Clearfield, PA and eat one of their 6 pound burgers on film and post it for us. I'll even send you some dried Nagas to put on that thing! Also, go down to Coney Island hotdog shop in New Castle, PA for the best chilidogs on this earth! ;)

have a safe trip & enjoy the cross country trip.
as for the windshield frosting up, nothing a rosebud & propane tank cant handle :flamethrower::lol: J/K but seriously you best find a way to make sure you have frost-free windows driving during the winter, hey this aint caliy where its sunny & 75

Ugh. Just had a not to nice "conversation" with my dad about driving cross country. Man, it's all side ways with him. He's the only person who's wising ill for this trip. So sad for him.

We never get along.

Don't you love it when people set themselves up for an "I told you so"? Only to see you survive and relay all the interesting experiences you had along the way.
Life is 10% what happens to you & 90% how you deal with it IGG. I reckon your gonna have the trip of your life.
Enjoy it.

Well, an opportunity just popped up and I had to take it. It looks like I'm pushing the travel date back to the 25th. Plus this will give me more time to pack and get things all settled.

And btw, great words of wisdom bentalphanerd!

i feel your pain on the driving..i just figured out the other day that i'm gonna spend plenty of time on the road in the next week. leaving friday after my physical and heading to my friends house outside of gainsville to spend the night. that's about 2 hours, and him and his wife are gonna watch my snake for me. next day i'm off to helen, ga (7 hours) to take care of some things at my parents house in the mountains. the next day i'm driving to their house in mexico, mo (~12 hours). after that, we're driving to the detroit area to spend some time with my dad's side of the family for the holiday. then back to missouri..i don't even know how long that drive will be, but i'm hoping they won't make me drive too much.

which, by the way, means i'm going to disappear from here for a bit. should be back after the holiday until february, then i'm off for at least 3 months of no internet. i'll be back for sure though!

IGG - so what popped up ?

XG - wow thats some traveling you'll be doing.

both of you be careful & likewise to all that will be traveling during the holidays.
