It's never too early to get started!

Sooo... 2022 season is over and most of my 2023 plants are already there - no reason not to start a new thread already! 😃

See my previous glog... https://thehotpepper.com/threads/2022-too-early-to-get-started.75362/

While all my current plants are technically overwinterers, only a couple have grown through the 2022 season and are considered interesting enough to keep for next seasons grow.

Let's start with the famous Schneider farms SB plant, which will be going into it's third season in 2023. It currently doesn't look all that nice but that was also the case during the winter of 2021 so no worries here...

Next in row is my Scotch Brains plant...

And then there's the Humble Servants Homestead (HSH) SB, which was also elected to stay for next season...

Thanks for the photo. You both look great 😉

I'll never understand why so many people do moronic things like that. Good thing there are good people like you to adopt:clap:

I just moved the HSH scotch bonnet plant inside yesterday and today it already gave me 2 hands full of ripe bonnets! 😲

Picked one and ate it raw... initially there was hardly any heat but the taste was great (to me), sweet with no bad chinense taste at all! It's at least every bit as good as the Schneider Farms scotch bonnet. Dare I even say... better? Yes, I do think I like it better! The heat was a real creeper and it was a good but not overwhelming heat. I have a new favorite!

Thanks! It's already our second adopted labrador 🙂

Just ordered some Schneider Farms SB seeds from Texas Hot Peppers off of your recommendation (along with Bahamian Goat and a Rocoto variety and three other types, because once you're ordering seeds, you might as well order seeds.)

Are the HSH Bonnets from the Etsy shop? I might have to pick some of those up too - after enjoying the P. Dreadies so much, I'm keen to grow a few other varieties this next year.

They are indeed from the Etsy shop (what makes it very expensive for me 🙁)...

You can only select one icon 🤷‍♂️
I recently ordered 2 more packs of their seeds... costs me about 35 euros. And for those high shipping costs you would expect a fast delivery? Nope, my previous order took more than a month to arrive. For me, Etsy is a huge rip off! But at least, the seeds are true...

Needed to make some room in the freezer so I decided to dry most of the peppers that were still in there from the 2023 season. It's mostly Schneider Farms SB and some yellow 7pot brainstrain for added heat. I also added some of the harvest from this year... papa dreadies, more Schneider Farms, HSH and bahamian goat peppers. Had to put the dryer outside to keep the pungent fumes out of the house...

Of course I did not wear gloves and I'll probably regret that 😁 wife already warned me... :seeya:

Tell us about tomorrow's... sensations. :hot:

<It would be sexy to have emotes like chilliemittens or hotfingers (omg, I couldn't find funny way of saying fingers in english, I found tootsy but it's for foot! It would be funny to post tootsies on fire instead of hands tho lol )>

Congrats on the supplies! 😍

Seems like the heat on my fingers faded quickly... no real issues so far...

With 1" / 2.5cm, this actually seems like a fat trunk for a one year old plant...

Meanwhile, some seeds are in the dirt for the 2025 season! 😜 For now, the only planted varieties are 7pot brain strain yellow and HSH SB. Seeds were planted on September 23th and today 2 HSH seeds popped.

I also received a fresh load of HSH seeds today, of which I promptly planted a few. Looks like my original plan for next season is already toast... 😁 it's never too early to change your mind! 😅. I'm even thinking of making it a HSH SB only season, since they are so good... 🫣 but next week I'll probably think differently :seeya:

Little update:

The Jeromín doing fine after it had a hair cut a while back...

The overwintering HSH bonnet starting to flush out...
1000008338.jpg

And then there was stiil something in the propagator... HSH bonnets from 2023 and 2024 seeds and a couple others that I just put in the soil... SB7J, scotch brains and aji margariteño...
1000008336.jpg

I will likely (🤔?) keep 2 of each of the HSH and one each of the other varieties. That will bring the total number of HSH plants to 5 if all goes well... gonna have a LOT of HSH pods!

I'll probably also overwinter the papa dreadie as it gave me some excellent pods. There are still a lot of pods hanging on that plant but they don't seem willing to ripen. Every now and then I check the plant for pods that show a hint of yellow, which I then pick off the plant. Once inside those pods ripen quickly.

Went ahead and took the Papa Dreadie inside also! Papa Dreadie on the right, HSH on the left...

The big wound of the large main branch that broke off a couple of months ago is still clearly visible...
1000008347.jpg

Oh, and I planted some Schneider Farms seeds today also. But this time I used my old seed stock from 2018. I hope this will grow a plant with pods that have proper SB heat. Let's hope they still germinate...

Nice looking plants and I'm looking forward to trying that Jeromin next year! The morphology of that HSH Scotch Bonnet reminds me of Allen Boatman's True Form Scotch Bonnet from years back. It was a really nice tasting pod too.

@hadanero I'm also trying the Bahamian Goat next year and really looking forward to it. I forgot if you had grown Rocotos before over there in Lancaster? I imagine they'd do similar for you out there as they did for me. BTW I didn't forget about our Datil conversation! Will be in touch.

I've not tried any Rocotos before, so I'm really looking forward to it. Picked up some Rocoto Aji Oro from Texas Hot Peppers, and just today received some Olive Green Rocoto X seeds from a Facebook trade. I'm planning to start these soon and let them get a head start inside before planting out.

And yes, don't hesitate re: the Datils. :)
