Kids these days

So last night we have a crazy lightning storm with torrential, monsoon type rain.

Around 2am we hear some kids on the street yelling and goofing off. The wife says I should call the cops, I say let them be cuz they're just goofing off in the rain - heck I did dumb things like that as a kid...

Well, the wife was right; I shoulda called the cops.

Kids ripped out my neighbours new hedge (20 knee high shrubs, planted just a week or two ago) and tossed them all onto my yard and a couple on the roof of my garage. A couple made it into my backyard, luckily minimal damage to my plants. I thought the noise was the thunder... bet my neighbours did too.

They then proceeded to take their frustrations out on a tree out front. They couldn't take the tree itself down (Surprising because I could rip it out myself, bad knee and all as it was hit by a car this winter) but they managed to break the sticks supporting it up so it'll grow straight.

I wonder what else they terrorised last night.

F-ing kids. Some people should not be allowed to breed.

Yup, exactly. Thus my "allowed to breed" comment.

These kids were older teenagers but still.

Too bad they didnt try and eat a naga off my plant they nearly destroyed with the hedge that made it into my garden.

A basement, a lenght of rope, and a burlap sack would solve the problem.

ya know thats the problem nowadays!! The younger generations have no friggin respect for anything. An damn sure not enough discipline!!!!!

Well, let me first start by saying that what those kids did was absolutely terrible. They destroyed property and caused mental anguish. The victims will now have to suffer a loss of money and time to replace those bushes and clean up the mess. Not to mention, the new bushes may take years to regrow.

With that being said, I don't know if it is fair to generalize when it comes to people. Honestly, I don't have any hard evidence as to whether this generation is better, worse, or the same as previous ones. As far as I can tell, every generation has a wide spectrum of people within it. Both good, bad, and in between.

I could give a ton of examples from history but you aren't an idiot. You can just as easily look in history books. Instead, I would like to share a personal story.

When I was in the 2nd grade I was overweight. On the verge of obesity really. (I have since lost and kept off the weight) I am basically an atheist now but I was raised Catholic. At the time, I was receiving my First Communion. After the sacrament my family had a party. During the party my grandfather, who I rarely saw, approached me. Instead of delivering words of encouragement he said, "Wow, you're really getting fat aren't you." Obviously I was devastated. What type of piece of shit (and I say that with all due DISRESPECT to him)says such a thing to a child. And on the day I received my First Communion. Anyway, I guess my point is that he (a Korean War vet, a strict Catholic, and a member of the "Greatest Generation") engaged in a tremendous act of disrespect to a supposed loved one. I should also point out that this was not an isolated incident. He has engaged in all types of disrespectful conduct towards strangers and family members alike.

I think it is important to evaluate people on an individual basis. Age, sex, race, etc. should be excluded. Actions should be observed...

Just my two cents.
Thanks for listening.

maybe some but not all the blame! kids are kids, & teenagers should take the blame for their actions NOT the parents!
you can try your best & kids will still do stupid things!
no thanks to the F'ing liberal POS Gov't that says you cant discipline your kids.
so alot of blame goes onto the gov't & society!!
remember years ago you could discipline your kids, & look at the respect people got & less violent crimes that happened ;)

I 100% agree!!!

Interesting story and point Josh. The old crotchety bastard you hear yelling about "the good old days" can often be the same sorta prick of his generation. Got some real good ones in my famly too.

Sorry to hear about the vandalism though Lost mind. Teenagers can definately be fahkers for sure. I got to admit I was kinda a certified one at times when I was. Can't ever remember being so bored or stupid enough to mess up someone's landscaping though.

I would say a little more bringing the hammer down on punk asses rather than sitting around and talking about feelings can't hurt! A little bit of jail time can work wonders!

ALot of things like this is more than just the parents, it goes farther than that. I will use my youngest brother as an example. Almost a year ago he was arrested for deadly misconduct when he was 17, now he is 18. They gave him 5 yrs probation and community service, which isn't fun but is a punishment better than jail. Then in March of this year, he gets arrested for 2 felony counts of burglary, for breaking into the school twice, and 1 misdeamenor for burglary of a vehicle with his friend. Mom shells out $11,000 to bail him out. So he is waiting for his court date, and gets arrested again for leaving the scene of an accident, but he gets out on a personal release bond. He goes to see his probation officer, and they send him back to jail, where he sits until his his court appointed attonet tries to get him out of trouble. After 72 days, he is out with deferred ajudication, which means no trouble for five years and its doesnt go on his record. Now when they did this, they got rid of his probation and community service. SO bascially he didn't get anything for what he has done.

This sends a real good message to kids. And he is back up to no good, staying out till 2 or 3 in the morning with the kid he got in all the trouble with. And he was raised right, because he lived with my dad.

Wow RDS, that's rough.

And here I am concerned that my little brother just blows through his paycheck every 2 weeks, doesn't save a dime and won't go to school to upgrade his electricians apprenticeship...

Hope your little brother see's some sense soon man.

that is tough RDS...but as you surely know, houston is a rough city...

hope everything works out for the best....

The sad part is he is not in Houston, but in a small town 45 miles east of here. There was less than 100 people in what should have been his graduating class, but ya cant graduate from in jail. I guess the crazyness of kids has spread to the country.

I will give a little more of my opinion, fwiw since I'm only 29. I really hate to blame all parents for their kids shenanningans now a days. I graduated from school 11 years ago and the worst thing we did was skip class, smoke and drink; and I went to school in a large city. As time goes on, society and the legal system seems to be more and more easy on punishment for what I would call stupidity and blatant disrespect.

The first time my brother got in trouble, I felt bad for him, because he was protecting 2 females. When he got in trouble again, I didn't feel any sympathy for him, and I do not feel the "punishment" he recieved was close to being what he deserved.

This happened yesterday outside my local supermarket:

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25845941-661,00.html

THREE teenagers have been charged over a car-jacking during which a woman was allegedly threatened with a knife.

A terrified 61-year-old woman was allegedly forced to hand over her car keys at knifepoint as she walked to her car in the car park of the Hampton Park Shopping Centre about 9.30am yesterday.

The woman was told to put the keys in the ignition before the teens allegedly fled in her car - a 2000 model silver Holden Commodore sedan.

The teens were arrested about 2pm yesterday and the woman's car was recovered.

A 13-year-old boy from Hampton Park has been charged with armed robbery, assault, theft, driving offences and conduct endangering life.

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, have both been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

The trio have been bailed to appear in the Dandenong Childrens’ Court on October 2.

The problem in England is the prison sentences are too short. You basicly get a smack on the wrist. Reported crime is down here as people don't bother anymore - you just get a reference number.

Example - My girlfriend lives on an estate with a big lake in the middle. People fish the lake and her parents who own the house have no problem with this. The thing that annoys them is people not parking in the carpark and blocking the slim (just enough room for 2 hatchback cars to pass) roads. They have since been pestering the council for double yellow lines to be painted (no parking and you get a ticket) but then people are going to park in the cul de sac.
Other times you look out of the window and people are urinating up trees in broad daylight, empty tin cans left everywhere...

So anyway my girlfriends parents have been going out there and asking them politely to move cars to be told F*** OFF ect.
The other day smash, someone either has shot the window with an air gun or fired a stone from a slingshot. £300 for a new pane

They get the registration and call the police. Police locate the owner but can't do anything as they can't prove who did it?!!!
Surely hold the driver till they do!

-------------------------------------------------

im sick of hearing on the news how someone has murdered someone over an argument about pushing in a que. Then how they are sentenced life inprissonment but must serve atleast 15 years.

Or 5 - 9 years for serious rapes.

Just found this. I live in this town!
TWO drug dealers who had £10,000 worth of cocaine in their possession have been jailed for four years each.
Luke Byles, 21, and Barnaby Mains, 27, both of Rushden, were stopped by police as they drove through Rushden town centre at about 6.30pm on Thursday, April 19, this year. Cocaine was found in the vehicle.

A search of Byles' home in Park Avenue,

ere he lived with his parents, led to police discovering scales with traces of cocaine on them, 243 grammes of cocaine – with a street value of £9,720 – inside a box of dog food, and a briefcase containing £3,700

Four years!
