LAND OF THE GIANTS 2017 - Biggest Bonnet Competition

Here are my pair of warriors, one was topped and stripped very early as per previous post... favouring the conventionally grown plant at this point, wish I had the space to grow both out but sadly one will have to go.

Well I am pulling out of the competition .
I simply don't know when I will be starting as I still don't have my soil.
I will probably only grow a few peppers varieties  this season best of luck everyone.

Really sorry to hear this ... hopefully you can still get something going soon. As the season gets shorter I would really recommend Rick's "Korean Gochu" I have a plant in its first pot no more than eight inches high with buds and a flower. Rick sent me plenty of seed if you want I can send some your way .... this variety is a flyer

Jason, do you need seeds or soil (sounds like soil)? Can't you just get some started in crappy soil, then transplant them into your stuff when it comes in? If you need MoA seeds, I'd be more than happy to send you some from the pods I grew from Midwest Chileheads last season. Let me know, bud

Thanks Mike for the offer but I have plenty of seed as you said it's a soil issue.
Last year I had horrible germination results & the worst inside aphid attacks I've ever had on those that did germinate that cause ants to come in as well.
So this year I determined to order light warrior it was supposed to have come in by now but still waiting.
I have since replaned the garden into a Pollinator & benitifical insect garden & will have a few Pepper/Tomato varieties .
I am also planning a cross project that I will devote next season an others too .

Paul you are way ahead of me mine remain squat however the seed I received from Rick has produced a lovely specimen which towers mine at the moment. Looking forward to re-potting and getting them outside .... are you feeding them or are you using a nutrient based medium... understand if you want to keep that a secret as it is a competition

My first MOA Scotch Bonnet pod to change color.

This is a Scotch Brain growing right beside the MOA Bonnet.

This is my first season growing either of these two varieties. Can someone please tell me what the size of an average pod would be for these two?

Alright Paul! Those are some beastly looking plants!
Gotta credit the source, Rick!  They remind me of
little haystacks.  Now that they are forking, the leaves
are starting to lift up more.  Some of the leaves are
bigger than my hand!

No secrets, John.  My plants have to be in the 2-liter pots for so long,
I feed them pretty well.  They are planted in a mix of Vermi-Fire and
Happy Frog, and watered in with a B-1 plant starter.  Then after a few
waterings, I give them 3/4 to full strength Alaska fish fertilizer every
watering, 10 ounces at a time.  I weigh the plants on a pan balance
scale to see when water needs to be added.

Impressive!

How old would you say those are now?

The hooks emerged on Jan. 10 (2), Jan. 12 and Jan 18.
So between, about 91/2-11 weeks along on pic day.

As I said, credit to the seed stock from John!
These are really vigorous!

I'm not a veteran Bonnet grower, but I would
say mostly golf-ball size, or a little larger.  The Bonnet
TFM That Tristen (Trippa) found had the largest pods of
any SB I've grown, some double the size of a golfball,
but they had a strange shape - sort of looked like a
hot-air balloon.  But they were huge.
