Look Out Corpus Christi, Here comes Ike

AlabamaJack

eXtreme
Rob...you better watch this one...this could be a bad one...

Chuk Hell...looks like Austin might get a blow too...

http://www.intellicast.com/Storm/Hurricane/Active.aspx?storm=2&type=track

the projected path brings it right over Fort Worth this coming Monday...they are predicting heavy rain, high winds (45mph/70kph), and tornados...

sigh...just when my plants are recovering from the summer heat and loaded with little pods a storm comes...it has truly been a trying year...oh well...now it is a waiting game to see what the storm actually does...

Saw on the telly y'day that Ike was about to hit TX. I hope it'll pass without causing damge to any of you guys' lifes and property!!!

Just be careful and watch yer ass, AJ. Be safe my friend.

Yeah man, be careful.

It's expected to pick up considerably while in that nice warm Gulf water. Models are varied as usual, but could be a CAT4 when gets there.

Man, we're catching some outer bands here.....it is raining so hard i'm thinking we may have to construct and Ark soon.....and "IKE" is still over 500 miles away!

I am watching this storm with an eagle eye...if it does come anywhere close to me, I am moving all my "contest" nagas inside, my Potawie Dorset Nagas inside, a couple of 7 Pods and a couple of T. Scorpions, maybe a chocolate hab, my cutback hab and two red savinas....thats about all the room I have without moving the plants inside the house...maybe a devils tongue too...the problem with all the others is I just checked my plants and they are all grown into the ground from the bottoms of the containers...they may just have to weather the storm...I will definitely harvest before it gets here....

Sounds like a pretty good plan AJ. Take care.

Just wanted to show you guys something about Texas...

I live in the far north part of texas...about 80-90 miles from the Oklahoma border...I am about 300-350 miles inland and live where the star is on the map...the red outlined area is areas that will see winds greater than 75 mph (hurricane force), the yellow outlined area will see winds greater than 60 mph...so if the current forcast track on intellicast.com is fairly accurate, I definitely am going to get lots of wind and rain....the track of the storm goes right over the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex...good thing is I will be on the west side of the storm...I live in Tarrant county where the star is...the county to the east is Dallas....I will be here taking care of business...the eye is forecast to pass over the San Antonio/Austin corridor at 2 PM Saturday then head right up the I-35 Corridor to Fort Worth and Dallas...I have all the "safety" stuff I need...a 6 Kw generator, first aid kits, alcohol...yup...rubbing and drinkin....flashlights...an old kerosene lantern from my Florida hurricane days...food for almost a month...

can you tell I am getting ready?...

what I wanted to show you was the topographical layout of Texas...if you notice the further west you go in Texas the higher the elevation but the eastern part is littered with large drainage channels...several river systems empty into the gulf...I live about half way between two of these drainage systems and only about 1/4 mile from the highest pt in Tarrant County...about 875' above sea level...downtown Fort Worth is ~700 feet...

so all I need to watch for is those funnels coming out of the sky....

there I go rambling again...

Take care AJ, hope the storm passes quietly but figure it won't be so nice. Sounds like you are prepared for it so that's a good thing.

No sweat, sir. Just be careful of that storm pushing water up all those rivers....the buoys in the gulf are showing a surge/wave height approaching 21 plus feet....thats a lot of water to get pushed upstream, ya know.

Oh, and we had a good bit of flooding here because of Ike and that damn surge.
