food Make your best taco.

Was gonna make carne guisada tacos tonight but shopping out of town went on way too long. So we stopped at Freebirds on the way home and got some burritos (some Mex. taco joints here call them tacos even when they are completely wrapped). Mine had cilantro lime rice, steak, grilled onions and peppers, pico, cheese and the two hot sauces. Freebirds has always been my favorite chain burrito/taco place, they always taste good. The more busy they are the fresher the meats seem though. Sometimes that stuff has been sitting out like Subway toppings

Freebirds.

I've been wanting to go for years.

Same for Fuzzy's.

The planets just never lined up.

Even though theres a Fuzzy's just 10 minutes from me.

Its hard.

Because I have Mexican compadres.

That bring the good stuff de la casa every week.

We eat like Montezuma.

Fuzzy's is cool in the morning for breakfast but I'm not a fan of the rest. Check out Torchy's Tacos if you ever see one, they're a step up from Fuzzy's IMO. Freebirds is Meh for me too.

I will second Torchys Tacos, they have some really good tacos. Ace Of Spades, Hillbilly Trailer Park and Matador are my favorites.

Damnit now we are going to Austin to get Torchys and play pinball. Thanks for bringing them up

Torchy's Tacos SoCo in Austin.

Been over 2 years since I've hit up that establishment.

Only because I have to take a 4 hour road trip to get there.

There's one in Allen about 40 minutes away.

I thought it was meh.

But the joint was packed with a line out the door at 1pm.

The SoCo Torchy's is el chingon que la chingada!!!

My favorites are the Dirty Sanchez, Deep Fried Avocado, and Baja Shrimp, in that order.

They ain't Mexican or even Tex-Mex I reckon.

But they make damn good tacos!

I meant to post that earlier.

SoCo is hippy hollow and hipster out the ying yang.

But I don't care.

The vibe is pretty cool and the gang.

Good food and good music abound.

I'd rather hang out there over 6th St. any day!

I lived in Manchaca back in the early 70's and did the 9th grade at Crockett H.S.

Pops was flying out of Bergstrom AFB at the time.

It is now Austin/Bergstrom International.

I was 115 pounds of 13yo jackass.

Good times.

Pics suck, but it is what it is. Top just shows the seasonings that floated on the pork and liquid in the crock pot. Middle just shows a tortilla that just hit the pan. Sorry hoggy, but I don't care for tortillas with burnt spots. Bottom is assembled. Kept it simple - meat and hot pickled okra - which was fine for lunch.

I took the pork in an Asian direction - I don't remember all of the seasonings, but for sure pineapple, ginger and lemongrass are in there, along with cilantro, allspice, marjoram, thyme, achiote, and cayenne.

Holy crap.

I don't care what it is.

Geeme's riff looks all James Bond Taco cool and the gang.

I'm swooning like an 8 year old kid.

Eating an entire box of Capt. Crunch and Raisin Bran.

While watching The Banana Splits on saturday morning.
No wonder I like.

Bear. That guy.

Is it Taco night?

All these tacos made me hungry. I had 1 beef rib leftover from smoking it yesterday so I went hunting and found enough stuff to throw one together. I might have another one for a late snack after a cocktail.

I started with one of these, it was that big one on the bottom!!

All I had was burrito sized tottillas, pickled jalepanos, sour cream, a little pico left over from fajitas, shredded cheese and homemade salsa
