Marturos 2024 Glog.

It's that time of the year, cold & gloomy outside, & inside the magic is happening. Those little green pepper plants are pushing up
towards the artificial sun. Who came up first? The early Jalapeño, Serrano, & the Sugar Rush Stripy. A little game we play LOL.

This is the best set up we have ever had before. 4 LED grow lights 2 heating mats, room stays at 66 F at night & 74 F during the day.
With 22 varieties & 50 plants we hope to have a real special grow for the 24 season, with a lot of great tasting peppers. 😀

When I joined THP I had just moved from Fluorescents lights to the new LED lights. Outside everything is about the same, it's the indoor
adventure that has changed for the better. Compact high output grow lights, heating mats instead of heating cables without thermostats
it's a lot of fun once again.

This is my first Glog. Welcome to the ride. :welcome:

My seeds are currently held back by customs... let's hope they won't be confiscated...

These seeds are totally worth growing! I'm not out of seeds by the way, I just wanted some fresh ones...
I received my HSH seeds today (ordered on September 6th). Package was opened by the customs but everything was still in there. Ordered 2 packs, they sent me 3 🙂, good for a total of 77 seeds! That's still about €.45 per seed including shipping. But if I plant them all, and save and sell all seeds that will be produced, I'll be a millionaire! 😜

Nice!

Hey @Marturo how did you and family make out with the rains? This was a hell of a storm in some areas near you. Is everyone okay?

Just getting out this AM we have power & cell service again food stores & gas stations are closed or out of gas.
Churches & schools are handing out food & water.

The plants have been beat but are still going, all my frozen peppers turned to mush with all those bumper crops of berries. 😞
All my frozen homemade Pimentos are GONE with the wind.

Time to start gathering seeds for next season & put this bad storm behind us. @NJChilehead Thanks for asking about us.

Hey @Marturo, happy to see you posting and I'm really glad to hear that you're okay. Sucks that you lost all of that crop but it's good that you and family fared okay. Scary and sad to see the destruction down there. Good luck with next year's plans and let me know if you need seeds, I'll be happy to donate some.

It's good to be back, we were in a dark world without news for 7 days, seemed like a lifetime.
You never can prepare for the one with your name on it, so you just pick up, clean up & journey on.

@NJChilehead I will get back with you on the seeds, I have some really cool seeds from peppers very rare & delicious drying peppers.

People from all over are traveling to WNC to help & sending things we need right now.

Looks like the 30s have finally found us, this may be the last picking for the freezer post hurricane.
Many plants are still full of unripe pods, I will pick them just before the next freeze.

2024 has been a great pepper season with many new pepper varieties.
I am sad, as I always am when the season ends & I have to see all the plants die.

It's Oct now & this is the time for finding new seeds. No time to dwell on what was, time to find
new seeds. I ordered some HSH Scotch Bonnet seeds that were supposed to be here yesterday but they
got delayed. Weather related they said, huh the Hurricane was 2 weeks ago. Hope they didn't lose them.

It won't be long before I am in a small moist room again with bright sunlight, misting our new babies. 😀

@Marturo you had a great year! Thanks for inspiring me to grab some Aji Chombo seeds for next year, it's one of the peppers that I'm really looking forward to!

Nice list, I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide for next year. One of mine planned for next year is Zapotec jalapeno. I've always been a fan of Early Jalapeno and Craig's Grande but hear really good things about Zapotec. Have you ever grown Zapotec? Also, how was Early Jalapeno for you down there as far as productivity?

Grabbed a pack of Zapotec from BC, when I bought a friend some Scotchie seed last season. Looks like a good Jalapeño to try.

The Early Jalapeño did very well it's a great popper pepper.

Your last few posts and those pictures, just wow. A lot of very beautiful peppers! Congrats!
Thanks @tsurrie, we spent the last 2 days prepping & freezing many peppers for winter.
I can't think of any other vegetable that has the sheer number of shapes, colors & flavors that peppers have.
Anyone you gift with your peppers is awestruck at all the different peppers you have grown.
Next time you see them they say, I never knew peppers could be so tasty & colorful. I saved seed for the...

We lost all our frozen Pimentos from the Leysa peppers.
Ok so Winter without home grown Pimentos, but in the face of store bought. 😔 Then I had an idea.
Take the red ripe Poblano & Antep Aci Dolma steam, skin & prepare like pimentos.
So far we have made some new Pimento cheese & stuffed our remaining Jalapeños with it & frozen them for later.

I believe you can make Pimentos out of any red ripe bell type peppers & get great taste.
