Megamoo's 2012/2013 Glog

I'm in a new house with much more space, better sheltered areas for plants and hopefully less disease in the environment. Unless I win the lottery and buy myself a mansion I'm good to stay here for a long time. The landlord knows about and is cool with the fluorescent light grow setups in the garage, and is happy for me to transform the outside into a chilli jungle. All signs point to a good season ahead.

Winter has just begun, and I've got the germinating and growing on stations setup. Chilli seeds are in the post flying to my door.

This is the current seed list I have to choose from, including varieties ordered but yet to arrive.

Many of these are just one or two seeds leftover from old stock and I won't be planting everything. A lot of the ornamentals will be getting just one plant. I'm might still get some more 7pots and superhot varieties.

The garden beds need a little work, and retic needs to be sorted but I've got a few months to do that. I'll post pictures when I have them.

I might post this in a separate thread but does anyone know what these bugs are?
stnf004_zpse75a0fe2.jpg

I get the feeling they are bad bugs. The ants have gone and pressed the giant red button and launched aphid nukes into everything. Every random leaf I turn over has a good chance of having some aphids under it. The garden is far too dense to be able to spray effectively so I'm going to enlist some bug soldiers to fight for me. Found a ladybug inside today so I gave it a nice new home where it can eat its heart out.
Uh oh... Those look like Thrips mate. Definitely bad bugs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrips (Set phasers to puree...)

Nah, Cheiro White is small..... and no need to try and hide it in the shadows, it's blatantly not white. ;)

Oh, and it tastes
I got it as an ornamental anyway :P
that Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Yellow looks a bit more orange than it should., maybe its just an odd pod.
There are a bunch of green pods that are due to start so we will see what happens

Thanks for that. I clicked the like button for your post because there wasn't one that said "F*&^(#$ BUGS!!!"
I've heard about thrips but never knew what to look for.

M8 nice pics , yeah heat wave sux , that little pod looks sick and I just hope the other one ain't heavy coz of a family of little grub buggers Lol, mine r all just flowers at the moment bar a few , that massive pod I've posted b4 is getting colour , it a darkish brown hopefully going black , but still ain't what I woz expecting (paid for)

Greenhouse thrips moo!! I have them over here ... look out for the worm like larvae on the underside of the leaves near the leaf vein. If you have both aphids and thrips the best bug control is lacewings ... mites won't touch greenhouse thrips unfortunately.

Moo, love dem comic speech bubble ting you did, very funny mon and great pod porn pics … keep dem coming and blast dem aphids :)

Moooo, you sound different to what I imagined.... but then I've always imagined you with a pug's head! ;)

Not saying your poddy avvies ain't cool but what ever happened to that little fella?? I miss 'im!

Yeah I saw the pic you posted. It looks pretty sweet.

I'm sad to say I agree, it does look like thrips.

I've ordered some mite eaters and going to get some aphid munchers too. Couldn't find anymore thrips today, looked all over.

Isn't it always like that? I thought I sounded like James Earl Jones but hearing my self on the video

I'm getting a bit tired of that avatar too.

Two days ago there were only green pods on the plants and today its all orange and red peeking through.
Harvested some Hab Peaches.
To the left of them is the first 7 Pot SR Red pod. Nice big one too :) Above that is a "Primo", then a Douglah and two TS Moruga Yellows that are consistently ripening orange.

Grabbed a few annuums.
This Scarlet Lantern pod's twin grew up and ripened red
hotnsticky025_zps1bec71b6.jpg

Plus some Hungarian Black and Red cayennes. All a bit stunted from being in small pots.

Still can't get the hang of growing in pots.
The Chilaca Pasilla that is growing in the pot o prawns is making some massive pods.

Very nice pod pron Moo! I read about a few varieties of yellow peppers that ripen to orange if you let them go long enuogh, so I don't think it is an issue.
Yeah I thought about that, and it can also be caused by too strong sun, the same way every white variety turns out yellow in the sun.
But these pods are going straight from green to orange. There isn't a yellow stage at all. Plus they are deep in the jungle and protected by lots of foliage and shadecloth. So its probably a natural variation. Of course it could just be my definition of the colours yellow and orange. The pod shape looks correct, so I'm not worried about it. I'll let the next pod sit on the plant until it's fully ripe.

Ate my first Douglah pod last night. Didn't have the guts to try it fresh so I cut it up and put it on a chicken roll. It had plenty of oily mayo crap to diffuse the heat too.

Half way through it was seriously hot! But I thought I was doing ok so I pushed on. That was the hottest thing I've ever eaten by a long way. Nose and eyes and mouth were running like crazy! Next level stuff compared to what I'm used to. :mouthonfire:

Can't really talk about the flavour because most of my mouth went numb. Feel like I've got my own personal afterburner today!

Awesome! Your own personal afterburner, eh? Going to mach in 3...2...1!
I ate it with crappy junk food so that was probably more the cause of the gut cramps than the pod. I'm sort of getting used to the ring of fire.... ok that sounds a bit kinky ;)

How they holding up in the heat moo
The big ones are looking pretty wilted but in the afternoon they always perk up. The potted ones are actually doing better. I guess because they are smaller?

The second half of your post actually sounds kinkier than the first ;)

I tend to use a lot of innuendo without meaning to, must be the result of a dirty mind ;) Lucky I didn't mention what happened with the testicle cuffs and gimp suit ;)

Cool variegation in the ripening pods
Hungarian Black. They look great when they are half green and the half towards the sun is black.

I braved the heat and took some pics
Feeling droopy but sticking it out..

Prawn pot. Chilaca Pasilla. I know they grow this big but its such a tiny bush!

Was reaching around in the jungle and after pulling out found this crawling on my hand.

He came to a sticky end.

A shot of nature's little sex worker working the beat. I salute thee. So damn beautiful..

Geez Mega ... what a freaking jungle you have there !! Funny I have never seen a bee anywhere near my plants ... I find it bizzare to be honest ...wish I had some bees about to do some of the pollinating ...keep on rolling moo!!

Most of the time they seem more interested in getting a drink from sprinkler heads than pollinating flowers but pods are setting so something must be doing the job.

Pickins from today
From the left. 4 Bhut Jolokia, 7Pot SR Red, Indian Carbon
pickins002_zps06537ee5.jpg

The Bhut Jolokias are from my second plant which has been small and non producing up until now. Hopefully what every is eating the pods on the other big plant won't bother it.

This is the gnarly Indian Carbon. I think the flower remnants have constricted the end of the pod.
