Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Melissa,

All is gorgeous.... you are a true inspiration!
Good call on the roots organics nutes... when you mentioned that pages ago, I recalled that I had a few samples lying around.
Put them to work in the community garden organic plot with some other products I was testing.
I have had pretty positive results.... We are adding the whole line of their products to our store..
Anyway, thanks again for all of your efforts to document your grow. I think everyone is benefiting from the information and loving the pictures.
Have a great weekend!
Regards, Chris

Harvests are getting bigger! Love the yellow cukes...how do you use them?

The yellow cukes are much sweeter than the regular ones. We eat them in salads, sandwiches or just sliced up with some lemon, salt & chile powder! My 2 1/2 yr old lovessss cucumbers! :) I grew the lemon cukes last year, much smaller and more seedy. I still like those, but these blonde are much better. I am growing a mix pack in addition to the blonde, so far have an armenian in there and another yellow one that is just as large as a regular cuke. Almost ripe, looking forward to trying that one too!

The orphan was 2 solid inches of roots in the bottom of the container so I didn't think you'd have a problem after seeing that.

It already had tons of little new branches forming.
Once it gets used to soil I think you'll have a Hedge.

I really like the Charapita too but have no room for it...

Chicken is $.99Lb at Vallarta, leg quarters.
Might have to bribe some one into playing Taxi and get 50-100lbs for the smoker.
Maybe start smoking my Manzanos too.
If I can get some smoking wood...
Freezer is too full, gotta downsize pods into powder then make some rubs and powder blends.
There is around 100+ lbs. of just manzanos in there. They are all de seedsd and halved.
Just need smoke drying.8-10 lbs of clean pods makes 1lb. of powder....

Too bad I live so far from you Mike, I would play taxi any time. My little one already called you "uncle Mike!", she cracked me up when she said that! :) Mmmmm Manzano powder, you make amazing mixes so I know that will be awesome too!

Nice harvest, and score with smokes orphan. Let those Nardellos go red before picking, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Prodigal! The nardellos were pretty darn good green, we ate them that same night fried up with some olive oil and salt. There was a method to my madness in picking them green, that plant was in a 3ga container, needed a bigger home. So I potted up to a #15 and pulled the pods so it had time to grow in to it's new shoes, next round I will wait for them to turn red. :)

Another great harvest, Melissa. Which pods are actually the Biquinho? The small ones at the bottom of the picture maybe? Thought they look different. Mine is just flowering, together with my Chupetinho and Moranquinho

Thanks meatfreak! :) The Biquinho were the ones in the right bottom corner. I also had that plant in a 3ga, needed a larger home so I potted up to a #15. All the pods that were set started turning after, so I am sure the next round will be a little larger like they are suppose to be. :)

Thank you Chris!! I really appreciate the praise, and I am glad some people are getting helpful information from my glog. Last year I was overwhelmed with info on here, and it can be pretty intimidating for a newbie! I really love roots organics, if I had big $$$ I would only use their soil. Amazing stuff :) Take care and have a great weekend too!

Melissa

Melissa, are you picking your Jimmy Nardello's green? Or am I missing them?

Nope not missing them Roper, you are right I picked them green. :) I repotted that plant from a 3ga to 15ga, and picked the pods so it could have time to grow in to it's new shoes. Next time I will wait until they are red, thanks for stopping in!

UPDATE

Gnarly looking pods, pretty sure these are yellow bhuts.

1 page back Guru, I posted an updated pic the other day. ;) Fed a few plants the fermented fish today, peeeeeyewwww! I think I heard my neighbors out back asking each other what the smell was!! lol. Wind was a factor today, it all blew to their yard!! hahaha :P

NICE! hahaha! Priceless! They're gonna come looking for dead bodies! You can tell the police you fed the bodies to your plants.

Funny you say that, when the other half stirred for me one day, he came running back in after telling me our neighbors were going to think we buried a body back there! :P Guess what?! I don't care, not too fond of most of them anyway! lol. I may wait another day or so before using more, just to be "nice". Muahahaha!

Brown podded pepper might be Ethiopian Brown Berebere.
Brown when ripe but has a redish tint inside.
Looks like it,an ANNUUM ...
I just havested a few pods from mine for pure seeds.
That is my guess and I'm sticking to it. :)

Those little Munchkins are gonna be heartbreakers when they get older.
I'll keep a couple Chocolate Drumsticks in the freezer for if they come with you again sometime.
Hot day needs Ice cream...might even keep an extra one for you and the old man. LOL

Smokin starts this weekend/tomorrow.
Got too much stuff that needs to be dried in the freezer.
Make room for other goodies.
Sent you E mails....
