Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Nice harvests! I think the Yellow Bhut you were asking about is actually a White Bhut...They never are completely white, more of a light green and they actually ripen red...

Hahahaha...another unintentional page topper! Today is my lucky day! The Purple Bhuts are hot but not overly so. There maybe a tad worse than an Orange Hab with a hint of Annuum flavor mixed in with the Chinense. You are in for a treat!

melissa... my pimiento are about the size of softballs.. but who knows... could me....damn... i cant wait for my blonde cukes to get bigger....keep it up.. ill be there next week to harvest!!!

denniz

Size of a softball huh? That's pretty large, I use to play softball myself and was a pitcher! :) They keep getting larger, I started some pimentos but they are no where to be found label wise. Going to have to wait and see how large these get and what color they turn. Did you like the blonde cukes I gave you? And where is the "not" chocolate hab review, get to it!! :P

Thanks Shane! White Bhut huh? I didn't grow any of those so it would be nice if that's what they are! :)

That funky "Not" Chocolate Hab has a very interesting shape so In my slow day I fixed it for ya. Yeah, it's not the best but it's what some quick internet searches came up with. Maybe be a chance for a dress up the pepper contest here. :)

Have a great weekend

Haha love the pic RM, thanks!! Hope you have a great weekend as well! :D

Shane you are the "page topper whore"!! :P I may get the hubby to do a video review of the purple bhut, he can handle heat pretty well now. I gave him one of the "not" chocolate habs whole and it sure took him for a ride but he handled it really well. I will taste it too, whole pods aren't my cup of tea "yet". :)

Amazing grow girl. Love the harvest pic

Thanks Jamie! :) UPDATE: Sorry for the lack of updates guys/gals. This venture of mine is getting really hard to manage by myself! But I am still trucking along and making the best of it :) My Jamaican Yellow in ground finally starting to load up!
IMG_4362.jpg
Pods set on my in ground Aji Joe Chocolate hand grenade!
IMG_4367-1.jpg
So this plant is suppose to be a trinidad seasoning, but I am thinking its a NOT! The pods are turning brown, any ideas? Will taste the pods once ripe.

IMG_4370.jpg
Red Habaneros ripening, will be so happy to finally have my own habs! Orange market habs just don't cut it!
IMG_4371.jpg
A mystery pod looking rather cool :)
IMG_4372.jpg
Aribibi Gusano, tons of flowers but no pods yet.

A couple new pubescen babies :)

I hope to have some more time to do an actual update this weekend, feel like a slave to my plants!

I'm off today. Wink Wink. Nice to see my jamaican yellows are looking like yours. Keep. Hope your plants are liking this humid hot weather. Lol. How's Thr snake btw.

Denniz

How old are those babies. ?!! And is that a jiffy cup I see in the background. ?! WTH?!

looking great!!

the gusano is a little slow but once they get going you wont be able to stop it, you will have pods coming out your ears, i did

thanks your friend joe

Very nice Melissa. Time to get that little girl of yours out in the garden to ease your back ;)

That not trinidad seasoning look just like my hybrid bhuts only mine go red. Whatever it is, it's gonna be hot! :fireball:

Plants are liking the weather, better than the brutal dry heat we had yesterday. So far everything is handling the high temps just fine, nothing is wilting even at the hottest parts of the day. Hope they continue to like it cuz it's only going to get hotter when august arrives! lol. Snake is GREAT, lost all it's leaves but grew them back at every node! Amazing plant, I would say it's ready for a new home in a month, should be a bush by then! :)

Those babies just sprouted this weekend, all the new sprouts are growing FAST with this weather. You see a jiffy "type" in the background, they were 15 for $1 at dollar tree, can't go wrong with that! And the mix is blue ribbon/jiffy seed starter, holds moisture well. What do you have against the jiffy pots?! LOL

More starts??? "Complain about pepper workload" statement here followed by a "Look at my new babies" statment there....Hmmmm. Yup you've got issues!

FINALLY AN UPDATE!!! No more excuses! Looking great, Your harvests are about to be just plain crazy. Can't wait to see your baskets of peppers!

Tell me about the Peru Cysco???

Hey hey hey, I was not complaining! Just stating a valid reason for being MIA on the forum! :P YES I have issues!! haha! I have a feeling I will have a really large LATE harvest. Everything in ground is finally catching up, those alabama jumpers I bought finally have done a good job of turning the clay in to good soil! I have had a couple fatalities lately, not sure what caused them but they got yanked real quick. AND mites showed up, found out they are coming from both neighbors ice plants that creep over my fence. SO I bought an army of predator mites this week, can't do anything about the neighbors plants so it was time for some warfare! :) They didn't do much damage to peppers, but a couple of tomatoes near the fence got hit. I don't know much about the Peru Cusco, need to ask my source. Must have come from that region in Peru. I plan to have many more varieties of manzano/rocoto going before next season. Going to build some raised beds along the fence for them. Hope you are winning the war against the virus, next stop is your log! And if you need more seeds for next year you know who to ask friend! :)

Great pics as usual melissa, yeah I'd have to agree with Shane on this one, you have extreme pepper issuitus (old word I just made up Lol) Keep up the great work!

Emon

Your peppers are looking good as usual. Peppers can be a lot of work, most watering, especially if they are
in pots. Most of mine are in pots or earthboxes. So, I don't know how you do it with so many pepper plants
and a family to take care of too.

Spider mites are no joke. Can consume plants in days if left untreated. I'm with Melissa on this one. I'm still starting out new seeds this week. Once I free up space on my aero. It's do hard no to start them in my aero. So much quicker. :).

Thanks Eric!! I do have issues, pepper issuitis....no denying that! lol :)

Thanks roper!! It is a whole lotta work, especially with my girls. But somehow I make it happen. The husband helps me too, but more on the physical labor aspect. When I need dirt unloaded, raised beds built or just pulling apart my 15 ga containers! lol. I hope one day he gets a green thumb, but for now it's all me. Water is definitely a tedious task though! Thanks for stopping in :)

Yup they are no joke, which is why I went with the army of predator mites option! I can't do anything about my neighbors crappy plants, so they should be quite happy with a constant supply of food. They didn't kill any plants, not even my toms. Very minimal damage, glad I caught them early. I released 3,000 predator mites, Mesoseiulus longipes, Neoseiulus californicus, Galendromus occidentalis. All good for different reasons to ensure I have some that stick around after they eat all the bad mites. This is my last batch of seeds until Sept/Oct when I get the indoor grow started again, serious this time! haha!

Amazing plants and pods Melissa that new smoker is going to be working overtime for you with all those pods that sucks about the causalties. Wow already planning out for the new starts do you have an idea of what your going to overwinter and which ones take the walk of shame. Everything is loading up in flowers here they seem to be loving the low dry heat and high humidity, but this quick rain was nice. Good luck with the predators hopefully they wipe out those pest and make it safe again for your plants.
