Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

UPDATE

Ok guys and gals, I apologize for being MIA so much lately. I had decided months and months ago that I was not going to return to work until next year. BUT a couple weeks ago I received an offer I just couldn't pass up, so back on the grind as of monday. I have been scrambling to get everything squared away before I return to work. Will be leaving my babies (girls and peppers) in the hands of my more than capable mother. Things are looking amazing outside, flowers and baby pods everywhere. Now if I was only good about my labeling maybe I would know what each plant is! lol

Sooooo my Purple Bhut Jolokia needed a new home, it was doing great in the 5ga smart pot with roots organics soil....But it needed water every day. I bought a few large smart pots recently and decided to give it a new home in a 65ga! Yes I want a purple bhut tree!! :D

Looking good! what strain of hops ya got growing there!?

Thanks RIch! :) The hops is my brothers so I am not sure, he has two different vines going. They didn't think it would produce this year since they were only planted a couple months ago, wrong! haha, hops everywhere. Now if my brother would only share his brews, I want a case!

Freaking A. I guess it's my turn to get the smoker. Thanks SHANE!!! Lol. Nice harvest. Hope things work out for you Melissa. Let me know if you need someone to harvest between 7-5

Denniz

Thanks Denniz, that smoker is money! Seriously easy to use and everything comes out delicious, love it! I will let you know if I need some help, hoping I can still manage. It's going to be a huge adjustment for me going back to 50hr work weeks, but I am super woman right Shane?! lol

Impressive as always, Melissa! Now that you are back
to work you will really be busy! I hope that Purple Bhut Jolokia
is in the spot you want it to live in! A 65 gallon smart pot might
be hard to move :D

Hope your season continues to be a rocker, girl!
I always enjoy the pics of the cool varieties you have going!

Wow amazing work Melissa 65 gallon purple bhut tree in the near future. Your plants and girls will miss you, but that is an awesome for the opportunity you go back to work especially when it is under circumstances that could not be passed up. Plants look amazing even through the hot weather my plants kinda slowed down on the production, so hopefully once August hit weather will die down poddage will be present. Super Women is the perfect term. Good luck with everything

Looking great gal! Hope the new job treats you right! Momma just started working again this week over here too. My plants aren't as perdy as yours anymore :mope: but they're still pumping out the pods for me so no complaints! Looking forward to some big harvest shots from you!

looking good and good luck in your job
its always tough being away from your family especially children, i will keep you in prayer that this job will not get in the way of the things that truly matter in this life
thanks your friend Joe

Hi Melissa! I was sorry to hear that you're going back to work. As a mom, I know how hard it is to leave those babies with someone else! You are fortunate to have your mom to help you out. That's not near as bad as leaving them at a daycare with strangers. Was also sad for the rest of us, since you won't have as much time for pics and updates. :tear:
Hope the transition goes smoothly for you!

That Purple Bhut is such a beautiful plant! I'm definitely adding that to next year's growlist, even if they are too hot for me to actually eat!

Hey Paul! Thanks for always showing love and support! :D My first week of work actually went very well, it feels good to use my brain again! lol. But I do miss my girls and I am having a hard time balancing work and my grow right now, no breaks for me. Tomorrow I am getting up early and working my butt off in the yard so my plants can get the love they are use to. Oh and that purple bhut is most definitely in it's permanent home, right outside my family room window on cement. What a beautiful view it will be when it turns in to a tree!

Hope all is well

Melissa

Plants are looking sweet Mel Mel! They look very well fed

Thanks Jamie!! Hope the Florida weather is treating you're plants well! :)

Thank you Fernando! Purple bhut tree in my future for sure, it's such a beautiful plant! My girls and plants do miss me tons, but everyone will get adjusted in due time. Some opportunites just can't be passed up. I have big plans for our future and this is just another stepping stone to get where I need to. You and I will have some large harvests come September huh?! It's amazing to look back on the grow log and see how far we have come, it only gets better from here on out! Hope all is well Fernando, take care!

Thanks for always showing support and love on the log Shane, it is much appreciated! The new job is treating me good, couldn't have asked for better co-workers! One of them has a wife who loves peppers and cooking with them. I brought him a nice package to take her and received the most amazing chow mein with a side of my peppers to go with it! I will trade her peppers for food like that any day! I hope the fam is getting adjusted to momma working, it is never easy for a mother to leave their babies regardless of age! I know my girls aren't too happy, but having grandma around sure does help! Sucks that you are still dealing with that dang virus, but at least they are still putting out pods for you! When the season winds down make sure to send me a list of seeds you want for next year.....or ELSE! :P

looking good and good luck in your job
its always tough being away from your family especially children, i will keep you in prayer that this job will not get in the way of the things that truly matter in this life
thanks your friend Joe

Thank you Joe! I will always make sure to do what is best for my family, and if ever this job gets in the way of what is most important in my life I will have no problem walking away. I have the most amazing mother, she lives 30 minutes away and still drops everything to come stay with me during the week to care for my girls. I don't know what I would do without her, not only my mom but my best friend! I hope all is well with you're grow, take care!

Oh Bonnie you made me tear up with this, one of the hardest decisions I had to make and I was really close to changing my mind many times. My girls mean the world to me, nothing harder than leaving them every day. :( But my future goals will be that much easier to reach if I work, like I said in a previous post, this is just a stepping stone to get me where I need to be. I am truly blessed to have my mother drop everything to be there for my girls and I! I don't know what I would do without her! This week has been tough, trying to balance everything while working. I hope as the weeks pass I can learn to manage everything while still keeping everyone happy. And hopefully when that time comes I will have more time to do updates for all my THP friends :)

That purple bhut is a must grow, absolutely beautiful plant! Not super heat level but definitely hotter than a hab. It tastes amazing! And I have a feeling you would be surprised at how good it goes in salsas/sauces without being overwhelmingly hot! Let me know if you need some seeds, would love to send some your way! Thanks for stopping in and showing support, hope all is going well with the grow!

UPDATE

Been a long week guys and I have a long weekend ahead of me. It's crazy how much more you notice the growth on your plants when you are not around all day to mess with them. I have pods everywhere now, things are looking better and better every week! Here are some pics I shot today before it got too dark out.

Cajamarca, last week it was barely starting to open it's flowers.Today I have pods set everywhere!

HAPPY FRIDAY THP!!! ;)

I've been warned!

I've been sharing the pepper love at work too...they always ask for the hottest and I tell them that's not a great idea, but they insist. So I take them a grocery bag full of milds such as Big Jims and Bells, and 4 ziplocks. One full of Jals, one labeled HOT! containing Pequins, Tepins, Goat's Weed, Jamaican Hot Yellows and Ajis, One labeled "REAL HOT!!" containing Red and Chocolate Habs, Fataliis, Yellow Bhuts, Yellow 7's and some "nots" and one labeled "BE REAL FREAKIN CAREFUL WITH THESE, THEY'RE BRUTAL!!!!" containing Brains, Primos, Red/Chocolate Bhuts, and Scorpions...the replies are always the same..."I ate one of the hottest ones first and threw up, I ain't eating any more of your peppers!" I gotta quit loading up that last baggie...

I'm glad to hear that your first week back went well. It has to be tough leaving your babies (and your girls) everyday. But you know we gotta do what we gotta do sometimes.
The garden is looking great as usual. You're going to be drowning in pods real soon.

Keep up the great job.

You go, Melissa! The garden looks great.
Glad your transition to working mom hasn't
been horrible; just keep your eye on the prize!

Have a great weekend with your family and your
babies

Your Black Naga looks WAAAAAY better than mine,I re-potted last week, and 3 days later...Dropped all the leaves:(
Hopefully I'll get it outta ICU before sept LOL

Your plants are BOOM'n!

GL the rest of the way!

Hi Melissa-
Catching up slowly...but catching up (on glogs)! Takes longer and longer it seems.Your plants are looking great ;)
1. Purple Bhuts-did they come from the same seeds? The gnarly one is the first one I've ever seen that looks kinda Bhutish!?The one in the big pot WILL fill it up I think- mine are just in some 5's and 2 7's-
and the roots are coming outta the ground.
2. Have you tried the Black Truffle tomato before?
3. The Peach Habalokia's are cool looking -nice and bumpy ;)!
4. I'll hit you with Bonnie's question about that "Yellopeno"....have you tried it yet?
Gonna keep it short now that have even busier-glad your new job is workin out for you-thats half the battle!
Have a good one-
Dave

Melissa everything looks so beautiful and those pods look delish. I know that going back to work thing is tough but atleast it's easier with mom. Believe me I know. I'm kinda glad I'm way over that stage. Good growing to you.

Spell check should have separated at least. It only changes the words I don't want changed. Smh

holy cow Melissa, your pods are crazy looking and your garden became a jungle already, you really sure are a great mother to take care of those and your family same time...

Hi there Melissa! I don't check in for a few days and come to your glog and BAM!, awesome as usual. Thanks sooo much again for the care package, it made my month!
Sorry / happy to hear you're back to work I know it must be tough right now, but hopefully it will work out great for you in the long run. Those purple bhuts are freakin'
Tasty! I'm sure they'll love that 65gal home you gave em', the in grounds look pretty gnarly. Also like the jungle you got goin on, I got a few growing like that just not podding like yours  hopefully it will start cooling down here sometime, and mine will start looking like yours. (seriously doubt it though) Lol. Have a great week and keep up
the great work!

Emon

Like a few of the diehards here I'm also trying to catch up with the glogs. "Holy Toledo" or shall I say "O-Hi-Yo", girl. Ha......your gardens looking lush! That Peach Habalokia is beautiful! Wow, the plants are so green and filled with chili's. How do you hide those "Green Thumbs" in your photos........... Your Purple Bhut is going to be a monster. If I had one of those I'd have to put it on a "dollie" and wheel into my garage for the winter..that would be a good reason to dust off and fire up a couple of 600w hps..................only a dream!
I hope you're enjoying your new job, I know it makes it more worth while coming home to see the fam and the plants, having been a way for the day...
Have fun with your harvests!

Greg

Warned, Yes SIR!! haha!

I didn't give the co-worker any supers, trying not to give those away unless somebody really deserves that surprise! :P It's actually funny to me that people think nothing of the extreme heat peppers, as if they are no big deal.....until they take a bite and wish they had never ever mocked the pepper! Because at that point the pepper is mocking them!! LOL!!! I have to say, the supers are awesome in sauce and powders, but whole pods not so much. I attempted to eat half of a white 7 pot with my brother since I had read a lot of threads that said they were not super heat level. GREAT taste, almost like a green apple, then the heat kicked in and OMG.....not ready to do that again for awhile!!! My oldest brother was scared for us for a minute, until enough time had past that he couldn't help but laugh his ass off! Happy Friday Shane, hope all is well in you're neck of the woods!

[background=white]Thanks RPM55!!! You are absolutely right, this is just another sacrifice I need to make right now. My decision to go back to work is only to benefit my family, may be hard at times but I gotta do it for now. Thanks for stopping in, drowning in pods indeed! :)[/background]

You go, Melissa! The garden looks great.
Glad your transition to working mom hasn't
been horrible; just keep your eye on the prize!

Have a great weekend with your family and your
babies

Thanks Paul! The transition hasn't been horrible, my mom makes it much easier! But my 5yr old started kindergarten Wednesday, luckily I was able to be there and only worked half day. I would be lying if I said I wasn't sad I can't be there for her everyday! Keeping my eye on the prize though! Love that you said that to me, was talking to my best friend and she said the same thing! Hope all is well Paul!

Dave

Dave how you doing? It sucks, I never have any time to catch up with everyone's logs let alone update my own on a consistent basis! Hope everything is still boomin' in you're neck of the woods!

1. That gnarly one is a keeper huh?! First I have seen like that too! Yes the purple bhuts all came from the same seeds, that one is obviously special so I will pay special attention to it!
2. I have not tried the black truffle tomato yet, sounded great and found it at my local nursery. Loaded with toms but not ripe yet, will report back once I taste one.
3. Those Peach Habalokias from Aji Joe are beautiful, overwintering that plant for sure! :)
4. Yellopeno? Sad to say I have never researched that one?! Time to get on it!!

Thanks for stopping in, got some black scorpion tongue seeds set aside for you whenever you want them! Take care!

Awesome pods & plants like those different color Buths they look very sharpe :halo:

Thank you Vladan! ;)

Thanks Pia, enjoying all the pods, delish is right! Working while raising little one's is always hard, nothing makes it easier to leave them every day. Mom sure helps though. As much as I want them to stay little forever, I am looking forward to when they get older so I don't feel so horrible for working! My poor babies are having momma withdraws, but eventually they will get use to it again! Hope all is going well with the grow, take care!

holy cow Melissa, your pods are crazy looking and your garden became a jungle already, you really sure are a great mother to take care of those and your family same time...

Thanks Pinoy! It's hard work but someone's gotta do it!

Thanks Eric!! Couldn't be happier with the gratitude you showed, glad I sent that package, you surely deserved it! I have a feeling working will make my goals so much easier to attain, yes hard right now, but we will all get adjusted in due time! Purple Bhut is a damn tasty pepper indeed, glad you liked it as much as me!! Take care buddy!

Greg

Haha thanks for all the kind words Greg! I sure do hide that green thumb well huh? :) My purple bhut is going to be a beautiful sight when it fills that pot up, can't wait! I love everything about that plant, not only great to look at but tasty as well!! Aji Joe's peach habalokia was a score for sure, so pretty and gnarly looking at the same time! I am lucky to live in socal where I can overwinter outdoors, next year I will have a huge jump start and will be harvesting much much sooner! But that won't stop me from starting an indoor grow as well! lol. Thanks for stopping in!

UPDATE:

Been a crazy week for me, bummed I never have time to come on here anymore! Miss all my THP friends! I was able to snap some pics after work today, it's insane how much my plants have grown while I am away. Pods galore! Who says you don't get pod set in extreme heat?? Doesn't apply over at my house, every plant is loading up and being gone all day makes it that much more noticeable! Guess my plants don't miss me as much as I thought, either that or my mom passed along her green thumb to me! lol. Don't really have time to label every pic, alot are still mysteries to me. Enjoy the pics folks! :D

My Purple Bhut loving it's new home and growing like a weed!
