Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Very nice Melissa. Time to get that little girl of yours out in the garden to ease your back ;)

That not trinidad seasoning look just like my hybrid bhuts only mine go red. Whatever it is, it's gonna be hot! :fireball:

Thanks Jamie, I am so anal about the girls getting dirty outside! haha! When we went camping in big bear for the 4th I was constantly changing my 2 1/2 yr old cuz she looked like a pig pen! Drove me crazy! lol. The 5yr old is getting more and more interested in growing, even asked to try a pepper last night! I was shocked because she is really picky about food! I had a hot hungarian wax, had no heat, so I let her taste it, oh man was she sooooo proud of herself! :)
That not trinidad seasoning looks hella hot, going to pick one tomorrow and see what it's all about!
My 5yr old checking out mommy's pepper patch out front :)

Amazing plants and pods Melissa that new smoker is going to be working overtime for you with all those pods that sucks about the causalties. Wow already planning out for the new starts do you have an idea of what your going to overwinter and which ones take the walk of shame. Everything is loading up in flowers here they seem to be loving the low dry heat and high humidity, but this quick rain was nice. Good luck with the predators hopefully they wipe out those pest and make it safe again for your plants.

Hey Fernando! Thanks for stopping in! :) Yes that smoker is going to work some overtime, hubby got it today and it's already put together! Tomorrow is the day I will have some powder in my life! lol. My plants are loving the weather too, and I couldn't be happier with the rain we got! I came outside this morning to all my plants saluting the air, leaves standing straight up like when I give them tea. I haven't really decided which plants I will give the boot, I may try to keep at least one of each variety alive through our winter. My raised bed my brother built for me will be overwintered, will build some kind of protection over it. Should be a busy off season, between outdoors and in.

Ripe Yellow Habalokia, this baby will be eaten sometime this weekend! :)

Very exciting 3/5! Nothing like harvesting the fruits of your labor! :)

Harvest shot from today and a baggie of smoked powder I made with a whole lot of peppers!

Have you eaten any of the smooth, yellow mystery peppers yet? The one in the picture after the Barrackpore pic. Just wondering about the heat and flavor of that one.

Looking amazing Melissa almost done picking baby pods over here as well hopefully you plants start producing true size pods. Amazing harvest I don't anything that size until the next month, but the Jalabanero starting to elongate more. Can not wait to see if there is any difference between the plants.

Awesome harvest Melissa! Everything lookin' great as usual.I bet that powder will be tasty, any super-hots in it? Gotta get a new smoker soon! Did you get the same one as Shane? Keep up the great work!

Hi Bonnie! Thanks for stopping in, the powder is super tasty! That yellow is most definitely a sweet pepper, didn't grow any bells this year so this was a welcome surprise! Very tasty, like it better than a bell.

Thanks Shane, yes manzanos galore right now! My potted plants just keep kicking them out! I need to repot them, 15ga pots aren't big enough! Dang things grow like weeds. Probably going to build some raised boxes so they can go in the ground. Hope all is well in your world! :)

Thanks meatfreak! The tobago scotch bonnets are very prolific plants, both in ground plants are loaded and huge! Will be growing them every year for sure.

Wow Melissa! Very nice harvest.

Thanks Jamison!

Thanks Fernando! Yea it seems like everything is starting to pump out true size pods, it's starting to look like a jungle in some places! haha! Looking forward to seeing the jalabanero! My two seedlings are just about ready for a 1ga pot, they grow fast!

WOOOWWW Beautiful... good going and growing to you Melissa... woooohoooo

Thanks Pia!! :)

Eric

Thanks Eric! That powder is really tasty and smokey, I was going to throw a little baggie in your surprise box of pods and forgot! Next time! It does have some supers in it, but it's a mixture of everything I have been harvesting lately including the annums. Smoked it with apple wood, yummy! I have a bullet smoker and the electric one like Shane's now, I used the electric for this batch. That thing is so easy to use, worth the small investment!
