Nice C. baccatum flower. I wonder if you'll get lemon flavor/heat or Naga? It should be good anyways.

You are right potawie.....but a citrus flavor with a naga heat will be really fantastic!
stay tuned :)

Nice plant!
Just touch the flowers of one plant and then touch the other?
Is there a way to prevent the plant from pollinating itself?

Donnie on this board who is very good with crosses mentioned on another forum that C. Baccatums don't cross with C. Chinense. He knows much more than me in this respect. :)

@Nute the cross was made by mistake......I mean last year I got this normal hot lemon fruit from a friend and then..this is the plant! After a while he explained me that the hot lemon was just around a lot of naga, so theres why I called it.
Anyway yesterday I was too much curious and just ate 1 not yet ripen: the flavor was a lot of citrus but the heat was "a delayed one" like sometimes happened me with a t.scorpion.. but less one. i know im not clear but is difficult for me to describe (at least in english!).

Well, I wouldn't say that I know a lot about it, but I have gathered some information on this... I don't want to disencourage anybody but it is my understanding that crossing baccatum with chinense or annuum would only lead to sterility...

A. "Baccatum: Crosses sporadically with annuum, chinense, and frutescens; does not cross with pubescens. However, baccatum only produces sterile hybrids with other species."
Source: http://fiery-foods.com/dave/garden8.asp

B. This article is about "Interspecific Hybrids" (here it is annuum x baccatum)

Not easy to be an ordinary hobby-gardener...:(

C. Having said this someone in Germany is talking about a Lemon Jolokia - should be a cross between Bhut Jolokia and Lemon Drop - he tells that a Bhut Jolokia wouldn't set fruit so he pollinated it with Lemon Drop. This means that flowers were not emasculated, so it is possible that it self-pollinated IMO. But he says that only flowers, which were pollinated with Lemon Drop developed, so... Right now he has a small seedling and another one on the way...

@ Mammoccio: is it possible that your friend's Lemon Drop was pollinated by another baccatum? This would make more sense to me...

@Donnie first of all tnx for sharing u knowledge about cross pollination: really interesting!
back in topic , yes everything its possible cause a bee can fly a lot and not so far away were other species...

My friend told me:

"Posso solo dire che i miei lemon drop erano vicini rispettivamente ad un Naga Morich ed un Habanero Chocolate"

The lemon drop were close to Naga Morich and Haba Chocolate

"Però chissà, se qualche ape ha giocato scherzi può aver preso il polline da qualsiasi frutto (aji amarillo, hungarian hot wax, red savina, goat's weed, ecc.)."

Maybe some bee could make some jokes and take pollen from others fruits (aji amarillo, hungarian hot wax, red savina, goat's weed, ecc.).

Sorry for my bad english I hope it will be comprehensible :)
At the moment the only think I can say is Yes the plants leaves remember me a lot chinense leaves and the heat is not really comparable to the hot lemon..

I thought you could cross Baccatums with Chinenses.

Tnx 4 all the info Donnie your crosses are beautiful...how was the taste of the Orange Thai x Goat's Weed? its really interesting!
So its quite probable that my cross will be sterile.....I will see!
btw Im quite sure that the cross was with a chinense plant because the plant have multiple flower for node and I think isn't a baccatum quality (am I wrong?)
