Intriguing spice combination. I don't think I've ever eaten the star anise, I know I've never cooked with it. Does it share the licorice/Nyquil flavor attributes with regular anise?

Ok, I admit it, not my favorite spice. But I am interested.

Not my favorite spice either but mandatory for many Asian dishes and it really takes on a different role when toasted and combined with other spices. I love making my own Chinese 5 spice.

I'll finish the Pho and post pictures today. I decided to just complete the broth yesterday.

I love Chinese food but have never been brave enough to prepare it myself. ALL the local Chinese restaurants here failed inspection a couple months ago. ALL five. From bugs to fetid raw meat to who knows what on floors, counters and cook surfaces. Needless to say we don't do Chinese anymore.
