Same here for bow season, I'll be starting in black powder this Saturday!

If I was a hunter, I would be in Kentucky instead of Ohio. That black powder and shotgun only crap is crazy and I see it has infected Delaware too. What politician thought you needed an 73 caliber slug to put down a deer. And the giant cloud that goes along with the black powder........

I have several rifles chambered in something larger than 223 that would be perfect for the task. Since you can't get to Kentucky, maybe Vermont has better laws. They are pretty reasonable in general over there.

Good luck this season Chris; wherever you hunt.

Thanks, I actually hunt in Va where our family farm is and home to monster whitetails! I hunt with shotgun most of the time and use buckshot, far harder than any type of rifle hunting unless you are using a scope free rifle. :)

Hello fans!

Just got back from a long hunt, passed on all the deer for the first 5+ days due to size, was holding out for a monster. On Wednesday it was open season and I missed a deer at 50 yards, previous night one at 90 yards. Long story short I knocked my scope pretty hard when my shotgun strap broke the prior week. I test fired at 25 yards and could not hit a 12 x 12 target. Of course I didn't have the shotgun and had 4 deer within 20 yards on Wednesday. :(

My brother did knock down a few because he needed meat and didn't care about horns. A friend and I will be making sage venison and pork sausage in a few weeks along with Andouille. He purchased a whole hog earlier this year and it was butchered about a month ago so we have plenty of hog parts!

Cooking thread should have some new food pictures soon and back to the woods for a deep undercover mission in a few weeks!

One of these hams will make some good sausage soon!

Handguns legal where your hunting? I have a nice SA .357 with a red dot on it that I got from a hunter who had it as a backup. Would be ideal if you have problems with the shotgun.

No issue with the shotgun whatsoever, Remington 1100 knocks them down at 100 yards like cutting through hot butter. :) It was the Thompson Center black powder rifle scope that was off..the 200 yard killing machine. :)

Ordered the powders I didn't already have ... we've been using your stuff exclusively for a while now, really ...

Bummed not to be able to get some more mystery wine, though!
