Need to Vent

Speaking as a noob, I didnt join this site to request seeds. I joined cuz I want to learn stuff and get a few laughs(ok, you guys are crazy and it's been more than just a few!) I just hate that others who have other motivation seek to take advantage. However, I will say that several folks have kindly offered me seeds and I didn't even ask! :)

I don't think anyone has an issue with the person who accepts unsolicited seeds. I just hate the thought that people ask for free seeds to turn and sell them. I have no problem with a person getting free seeds from me and then grows them and sells the seeds from that. I mean why should it bother me? They grew them and did some work. But to get them and turn and sell the ones you got for free is wrong.

Speaking of free. For the people from the states with a yahoo account. Check out www.freecycle.org. Find you location or one nearby and join that group. It is a place to post free items you don't want but desire to keep out of a landfill. Each area has different rule and they will email you a copy I am sure. I have found many useful things for my garden and cleared a lot of clutter from my house.

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread.

Back to you Patrick

Patrick some folks are clueless others simply rude. I'm into a lot of things , music , peppers , jewelry work , and the list goes on . I can't start to name all the times I gave a 9 to receive a 2 in return. As a very old picker I know likes to say "F_ _ K 'em & feed 'em fish heads "

You've always been a great guy as far as I'm concerned. You've given me help and great BS sessions ....... rest easy.

Peace,
P. Dreadie

trying to help others with answers to questions that have been posed by researching and reading thousands of pages of text from colleges and universities has made me a much better grower...

Gripe....use the search function to your advantage...not just here but google it and at LEAST try to search for an answer before asking it.

I guarantee you it will make you a better grower...

rant over....

Oy - I tend to be a researcher, myself. If something piques my attention, I'll do much more research than the average person. Still, when I was a total newb to this site, I found the search function here to not always be as helpful as one might hope. Part of that was getting familiar with the terminology used by people here - I've pretty much either grown perennials or stuff I just expected to grow from scratch again in the Spring, so wasn't familiar with the term "overwinter", for example. (And is it technically "overwinter", or "over winter", or "over-winter"?) And of course, sometimes I'd get a HUGE number of threads returned, that may not have anything to do with what I'm looking for at all, but someone just happened to use a search term in it, so there it is. So yes, I agree using the search function should be a first step, but am also very sympathetic with those who give up quickly on it, especially if they're newbs. I've been on this site a whopping 6 months now, and STILL can't find stuff sometimes... though it usually slaps me in the face as to why once someone points me in the right direction.

Patrick, when i read your first post I sensed that you were struggling with a combination of guilt, obligation and anger.

None of those feelings really have anything to do with having a truly generous spirit.

From what I have gathered, you're a good guy who has done more than a few generous deeds in the past.

But if you're feeling an obligation to give away your hard earned seed to strangers, and it is causing you strife, it's probably a good idea for you to sit down and reexamine why you give seed away and to whom, and for what gain to youself.

Don't kid yourself about why you do it.

It is personal to you alone, but there is a payoff there for you, even if it is just the joy of giving.

And there is nothing wrong to saying "no" to people, or charging them for some or all of your time and material.

Afterall, you and all of us only have finite resources, and the people worthy of our respect will realize that also.

So you don't wanna talk to Patrick? Think he is too nice?
ANNOUNCING: the PATRICK CLUB
For only $10 a year you will have access to any seeds Patrick harvests and has no plans to use AND you don't have to let his humor and kindness possibly make you smile. Just seeds with no smiles.

If interested we have set up a special 24 hotline to call.....1-800-ME-NOT-YOU

I just stuff other's pockets with money, take my sauce, and run back in my hole.

As for seeds........I kill everything I plant on purpose.

Yep this thread had the desired effect I was hoping for. Got my vent on and read what the rest of you think and then watched a gripe thread turn into something humorous. Thanks gang. I really do love this site.

Anyone else feel like venting feel free to pile on.

I hate cows....roflmao

Snow is Satan's dandruff!

Yeah...and cyclones are his farts, and floods are his piss... :(

Hey Patrick - I can't imagine anyone not willing to stump up a few quid, especially after the effort the seller goes to grow, harvest, package etc. Seriously, you charged me like $2 to send the seeds and powders to Australia.
$2! I'd lose that under my car seat each day ;)

Yeah AJ.......cows do suck :) but Patrick is one of the coolest cats on the planet

comment was tongue in cheek....reference to O' Brother, Where Art Thou
