P-Son's "mild to wild" Manscaping prohibited!!

After a couple nudging pm's it is time to get things rolling...well, get a list situated atleast. I won't be starting my seeds until March 1 this season. This list is subject to change, and I'm betting it will before I'm done typing. My two goals this season are 1.) Take less pics and better quality 2.)Sow later and achieve similar yields. My germination techniques and set up are not inspirational or extravagant so the bulk of my updates will be after early june plant out. Fert apllication and medium are changing a tiny bit but staying simple with it.

c lanceolatum.... Holy Grail stuff!!! After 47 days I sowed my last couple seeds in a last ditch effort. 9 or 10 days later and this guy hooks. I'm over the moon...that is until I see the seed hull hanging on. Really?? So what do you do when only 1 sprouts out of your 7 seeds and it has a helmet head? Surgery ensued! I weaseled the pinhead sized casing off and everything looked nice and green but in a few hours it started looking rough. Fingers crossed for now. Excuse the cell phone picture here.

They are a chinense with a small round pod like most of the wilds. A great looking plant from seedling to full grown. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. This is for other members more than myself.
Awesome, thanks for the info. Will keep checking back to watch it grow.

For the person that asked, here's what ripe Mata Frade pods look like.  I grew them in 2011.  Gorgeous plant!

Wow, so dark purple/black leaves with bright red pods?!?! Awesome!!

Looking great Jon! Always amazed by your photos, now I'm jealous of your pods. Been a really slow season over here (and busy) so I've got to live vicariously through others for a bit.  At least I have great pictures to look at!

Looks like Chris beat me with the photo. I have them listed as C.chinense but they may be (C.sp)...I wouldn't doubt Chris for a second. I agree, they are a great looking plant, and produce lot's of pods in a smallish container. The back of the flowers is very pretty. Each petal is striped with a ruby/lavender mixed color. The leaves have a dull but iridescent purple color. I know that doesn't make sense, but that is what it looks like.

Doooooood!  Do you use a tripod and long exposures because these things are AWESOME!
No tripod for the shots, just take a deep breath and, hold it! I do need to try mine though.

Thanks Stefan. I hope the conditions up there have improved for you.

Andy,I started pretty late (March) like you and am playing catch up. I have been over to your glog a couple times and saw your plants were being finicky. They are going to cut loose soon. Not sure if your mulch is hogging up the N or what. I have a Reaper plant that has been a bit off in color. It's putting out flowers, side growth, pods, but just not looking right. I have had locked up plants but this thing is growing at the same rate as the others.....baffled.

Not much for an update. The new bed I started last season is starting to pick up. It usually takes alittle longer than the raised bed and pots but ends up with equal or nicer plants.

Flower shot

Have a good day folks.

"No infants in your nursery"..........and the flower grouping was a unique idea, separating/staggering the colors can make  the photo more  dramatic....nice work.
I like the idea of container growing, you can move the pots in and out of the sun when needed.

Is the homecoming flower shot a Douglah? Some of mine are doubling up.

TMF pods look nice, they do have a nice flav to them.

I'm curious to see if the Primo's turn Orange. My plants are still in the flowering stage.

I like the "3 stage" appearance of the Butch T. It just doesn't have the block and tail look to it. I have two types growing. The most recent acquired seeds were labeled the "MS ST". my original seeds came from THSC which look like the block and tail..............what the heck, they're both hotter than hell.

Glad to see the Reaper in your arsenal. The stems on my plants are also purplish........which seems to be a good sign, as the pods have similar genetics.

Great update J, you always have the thought put into your photography before you push the trigger.

The Mata Frade and Maui Purple are looking great per usual.
Thanks a lot guys. The flower in the back is a Strizanka, about the size of a half dollar.

Hey G, I have seeds from Chris for the original ButchT that I haven't grown out yet. This plant is from a different source and maybe isn't a legit one. I will have to grow out the seed from Chris next season.

My overwintered Douglah is putting out a lot of doubles and triples, this one looks like 4.

I am still getting the hang of container gardening. It is nice to be able to shelter them or move them in the shade for a photo op. I have a couple that are so waterlogged it's not even funny. It stopped raining yesterday and dried up enough to get some decent shots and rake up the rain compacted dirt in my raised bed. You can see the sun setting if you look at the Douglah picture with the pods(orange glare on pods). That was at around 8 pm last night and another big gully washer came through. Some unbelievable wind and rain!! It has been raining for 13 hours straight again. I'm expecting it to look like Beirut when I get home.

There is a lot of purpling on my Reaper. I am not happy with the actual plant and will be looking for different seed for next season. It is growing fine and producing but the color is way off and won't respond to anything I have tried.

Have a good week Greg.

Been on vacation and catching up.

Fine job with both the raising of the plants and the pics!

My Brother is in Ohio, 50 minutes West of Cleveland in Vermillion, he's 300yds from the lake..might be cooler there...
