Patrick's 2011 Grow Log

Here we are again. I can't believe how fast the time goes by anymore. My pops always said the older you get the faster it passes us by.

I am especially excited about this year, I'm going to try and cross a couple of peppers, on purpose! Haven't made the final decisions yet though.

Anyway, here's a few that I overwintered. The one on the left came from a 7 Pod Barrackpore cutting. It struggled for a bit but the roots are starting to grow so I'm hopeful. Center front is a "large" 7 Pod, center rear was a very robust Dorset Naga and the one on the right is a 7 Pod Primo. The latter three I removed from 5-7 gal pots, trimmed the roots and cut them down to just the stem. They sat in my foyer where they got some limited sunlight through a window. I'm very happy with them.

This is the first tray of seeds I stuck in coco coir last night. I've had success before with this medium as a seed starting mix so see no reason to change. It is nutrient poor so I start using fertilizer at an early stage in the plants life, at a very reduced rate.

Here is what I've started so far:

7 Pod, Brain Strain PRF…………………………..………........ 5
7 Pod, Brown Judy………………………………..………............ 6
Bhut Jolokia, Yellow…………………………………..………........ 5
Pimenta Tiger, AISPES004...................... 5
Trinidad Scorpion, Butch T Judy…………….………...... 8
Trinidad Scorpion, Chocolate AISPES108…....……. 5
Trinidad Scorpion, Morouga HSC……………….……....... 5
Trinidad Scorpion, Yellow AISPES109..……....... 5
Trinidad Scorpion, Yellow 2 SS………………….………..... 5
Trinidad Scorpion, Yellow Morouga AISPES107...…3

Not all of them are in the photo.

They are on a cookie sheet which is on a heat pad. Current temp in the coco coir varies from 75F - 80F. I would like it warmer and may mess with the heating pad settings. I plan on picking up a couple of heat mats tomorrow for more trays.

I have several other varieties to get started and would like to keep my total at under 90 plants.

Here we go! :woohoo:

Quick update.

I've put the ark building project on hold, seen the sun yesterday and today too. Most of the plants are losing their deep green and are waterlogged but hopefully with temps in the upper 90's the next few days and lots of sun that will be fixed. Getting a handle on the broad mites, down to just a couple of plants and they're looking better. Despite all of the negative the plants are still trying to produce peppers.

First up is an annuum, Chapeu de Frade. New to me this year. The bottom two thirds of this plant is pretty much a bare naked stem caused by the two hail storms.

One of three Orange Bih Jolokia plants. All three are doing pretty good despite the setbacks.

Barrackpore 7 pod. Seeds were from one grown last year so I'm waiting to see if it grows true.

And finally the Yellow Bhut Jolokia seeds courtesy of Asia Gardens.

If the sun can stay out for a few days in a row things may turn around here. Keep the fingers crossed everyone.

Ill cross em for ya patrick. Your plants are always trying to put out pods even right after they get destroyed by ma nature. You must be doing something right.

Hello!!
Your plants and pods are amazing my friend!!
the Chapeu de Frade "bishop crown" is a C. Baccatum! not c. annum!

Cheers
Rodrigo

Thanks for the correction Rodrigo.

Thanks to you too millman. I think the plants take after me, too dumb not to keep going.

Couple of shots of the Pimenta Tiger AISPES. Getting some pods off of this one. The other two that I have left aren't doing a whole lot of growing and I don't have a lot of confidence they'll produce. As long as I get one isolated pod with seeds I'm a happy guy. Gives me a chance again next year.

Another shot of one of three Orange Bih Jolokia plants. All three are producing peppers. I am really pumped about this pepper for so far an unknown reason. Guess I just dig a plant that does well the first time I grow it.

Patrick those Pimenta Tigers looks soo cool man!
I'm diggin how dark the leaves are on that plant!
Am I seeing correctly? The outside of the petal looks purple, and the inside white!

Lookin mighty fine!
I may have to start fertilizing with hail!

Kevin

Not quite white on the inside but they're not purple like the outside. I seen one of Beaglestorm's P. tigers and it looked like it was all green. Some of the leaves towards the bottom have greened up some. They sure stand out.

That Pimenta Tiger AISPES is looking really happy.

Not very long to see if it turns out similar to the pics megamastger posted last year.

I am really looking forward to seeing how the seeds from AISPES grow. The one that has me the most fired up to see is the Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Yellow though. Check out post number 598 on page 30 of this thread: http://www.thehotpepper.com/topic/6772-some-photos-megamastger71/ The chocolate one isn't anything to sneeze at either.

Cultivar of AISPES super-hot are

Trinidad scorpion chocolate AISPES

That is a sweet change over

Pepper porn time!

I am amazed at the number of peppers I have growing on such gnarly looking plants. I'm pretty sure I'll run out of time before any of the plants get real healthy and bushy but I'm confident I'll have enough heat to make it through the off season.

First up is one of two Barrackpore 7 Pods I have going:

This is one of three Bih Jolokia orange peppers I'm growing.

This is the fabled MadballZ cross. Got three of these going with two showing pods. The pods are very wrinkled similar to Bhut Jolokia peppers.

More to come...

And finally a couple pics of the AISPES plants.

This is the Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Yellow. I have four of these going and this is the only pod so far. The other ones are just now beginning to flower.

And finally the Pimenta Tiger. This is the purplest pepper I have ever come across, I cannot wait for them the get their stripes.

I have three of these but it's going to be tough to get the other two to produce.

That's all for now.

Awesome looking pod  have you grown these before?

Dude that was fast!

Nope, never grown these before. There's a link in an above post that tells where these originally came from.

Hey Patrick,
Even with the hail incident your plants already look bigger and healthier than mine.

And finally a couple pics of the AISPES plants.

I don't understand as much about peppers as you but I believe that the stripes on the Pimenta Tiger already show on immature pods.
If the pods on the plant you have don't already have stripes then they will probably never develop them.

I would say your best bet is the other 2 plants...

I also believe that the stripes should only manifest if the plant has some way of variegation.
I'll try to confirm this suspicion of mine with Megamastger.

Edit: Megamastger just answered me.
