About time Mr G. I was starting to get concerned your little shop of horrors chilli plants had devoured you ;) :D. On your grow brother looking forward to some pictures!!
Ha ha, Tristen - the plants aren't quite carniverous, yet, although I think they might be
getting close   ;)  Some pics to follow, my friend!

Paul. They have some that have Velcro. But can be more costly. I do extract what you do.

Without the hacksaw
I thought about velcro as I was figuring out the process!
Great idea.

Hi Paul
Great idea for getting plants out of root-pruning pots without damaging the roots. It's timely for me because I'm going to up-pot a Habanero I have in one when I put it outside for the season.

BTW... Happy Birthday bro! Hope it's a good one!
Glad you found it helpful, Rick - good luck.
Birthday was great; my wife's is the day before!

Great idea with the root pouches Paul. I have 3 Gallon pouches and they're supposed to only last a year and a half so I might just plant the whole thing when I get ready to put things in the ground but this was one of the things I had been thinking about when I ordered them.

Glad to hear you had a good time in DC. It's an amazing place to visit.

Cheers on your Bday!
Hey, Bill.  I bought the 3-4 year variety of root pouch as opposed to the more expensive ones.
I thin with care they will last more than that.  The gallons I up potted out of look almost brand
new.

I hope we get to go to D.C. again.

Paul, excellent technique and written description with photos, while I don’t use the pouches right now, one never knows when one might. Thanks for posting brethren ^_^
You bet, Ramon.  I like the root pouches; this will be my second year with them.

Awesome trick there Paul.  I've used root pouches for 2 years now and haven't thought to do something like that.  I use a plastic butter knife to separate the roots from the sides and I slowly push up from the bottom with my hand to try to separate the bottom roots from the pouch.  That part is easy, but trying to get the whole root ball out of the pouch then becomes messy as I turn the plant upside down and work it out of the pouch.  Your way looks WAY cleaner.  Going to be potting a few plants up tomorrow morning, so I'll have to give your method a try!
Good luck, bro!  With some care the root ball is pretty much unscathed.

Hey Paul long time no hear from! Things are looking great with your grow! We should catch up on the phone sometime. I will be checking back. Stop by my GLOG sometime !!
Glad to see you are still rollin', bro!  Hope you have a good grow goin'!

Hey Paul. All looking super man! Thanks for the optimism... my indoor journey has begun - let's see if I can prove you right! lol
Good luck with the indoor portion of your grow, Lourens.  I hope
it is as good as your outdoor one!

Awesome trick there, Mr. G!  Glad to see you posting and still around.  Thanks for asking about my grow.  It's coming along well.  Harvests are getting bigger each week.  :)
I'm still hanging in there, Bent, thanks.  Have you moved everything out of the greenhouse?
Mineis empty except for tools, etc.  You SoCal growers always make me jealous this time
of year!

@Brian - glad you had good luck with your root pouches, buddy!

@bodeen - Glad!  How's Fishin'?

These pics are about 5 days old.

The Giant White Hab and the jamaican Red Mushroom are both setting small pods:

The Naga Morich and the Pointed Yellow Hab also are setting small pods:

No open flowers on these, yet:

The Fatali/Savina has started setting pods in the past week:

The Bih Jolokia has quite a few 'micro pods' setting:

Round two seedlings destined for 3-gallon root pouches and overwintering.  Orange Manzano,
Choco hab, Yellow Aji, Goat's Weed, Honduran Mountain Pepper:

These seemed to need some extra shade during the recent sunny spell.  Three
pubescens, Bonda Ma Jacques, Bahamian Goat, Yellow 7:

Congo Trinidad Red that had its apical branch infested with aphids;
so I cut the plant off.  There are now 3 or 4 strong new branches
growing out, and it is in a 3-gallon root pouch:

Orange Manzano, second generation Shane's
seed.  In a 7-gallon root pouch, several flowers
open but no pods setting so far:

Overwinter plants are still hanging in there.

Wild Brazil:

Congo Trinidad Red.  Starting to put out more new growth at the
bottom and top nodes.  I cut off the first fork branches:

Fatali.  After some languishing, new growth has started
to emerge, especially at the bottom nodes.  I also cut the
forks off of this one since the photo was taken:

Looking great Paul!! Tell me is it just the picture or is the Bonda ma Jacques lagging behind the others a bit??
Hey, Tristen.  Yes.  It was one of the plants that was struggling early on.
I'm hoping when we get some warmer, sunnier weather weather it will
catch up a bit.

Paul,
Great job with the photos and discriptions. Thats super seeing your plants flowering and podding up this early in the season! The growth on the OW's is flourishing, especially the Tepin and the Manzano. Root pouches look pretty cool...

Paul great update, everything looks very healthy and lush. Cool you already have some podding, bet you can't wait to first harvest ... have a great day mon!
These will be tiny pods, but at least it shows the plants are working!
I'm chomping the bit to plant them into their big containers.
Hope you're growin' strong, Ramon!

Hey, Greg, thanks, man.  I like the root pouches.  They have such a great organic feel to them, and the root balls come out without a lot of wet dirt at the bottom and roots hanging out all over the place.  This is my frst season with plants in the i-gallon root pouches.

Here re a few more pics.

OW Black Pearl.  Lots of flower buds waiting for
warm weather to open up.  That's a Hot Dawn
Rhody in the pic with the BP:
DSCN5412a_zpsf8d0fa0a.jpg

OW NuMex Twilight, seed from Siliman last season:
DSCN5410a_zps0a14ee0a.jpg

I had a Giant White Habanero that got infested with aphids like the
Congo Trinidad Red above, and underwent the same topping
procedure.  Now there are several healthy branches pushing out.
Here is the root ball:
DSCN5403a_zps7174f46c.jpg

I figured out this season that it is best to remove the sleeves from
the party cups after the planter cups soak up the water.  I didn't do
that last year, and the root balls from the party cups all had a few
long dangly roots that had grown into the resevoir of the sleeve cup
and circled around.  This year, the root balls are bushier since the air
getting to the holes in the bottom of the cups prunes the root tips,
and new roots grow out to replace them. This is the root ball with the
roots teased out a little:
DSCN5404a_zps61ae6c7a.jpg

Going into it's new 3-gallon root pouch:
DSCN5405a_zps593aff14.jpg

A little more Mychorrizae with Humic Acid and
some more Dry Molasses to feed the new roots
as they grow out:
DSCN5406a_zps48dffb83.jpg

Like the Congo Trinidad, it went into a nice new 3-gal.
Root Pouch:
DSCN5407a_zps77c09282.jpg

The Wild Texas Tepin got some new shoes, too.  The root ball
was surprisingly bushy and had not circled the pot even after
a full year in the 2-gallon nursery pot:
DSCN5408a_zpsd86e5796.jpg

In it's new 3-4 gallon container.  After seeing
how slowly the roots grew last year, it may
be able to stay in this container for a couple
of years before repotting:
DSCN5409a_zpsa86e5b49.jpg

Thanks for looking in.  I hope everyone's grow is going well, and that our
Midwest and Eastern brothers and sisters are not getting pounded too
badly by the weather.

Another great update Paul, that last blue container looks bigger than 3-4 gallons as you state but it could just be my perspective from the picture. I see a whole bunch of them far in the background, mas peppers?

BTW great pics! Have a great day mon!

Thanks, Ramon.  I'm just guestimating the size based on putting the '2 gallon'
nursery pot inside of the new container.  The perspective makes it look huge,
indeed; I hadn't noticed that      The pots in the background are 17-19 gallon
utility tubs that I use for planters.  For the money, the best container going,
just drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage!  This year's grow will almost
all be in 7 gallon containers or larger.  There will be a few three gallons for OW
in the greenhouse, and a couple of nursery pots with OWs that I need to pot
up to the 7 gallon Root Pouches.  Thanks for your interest, my friend!

Dang Paul...feast or famine around here! I like the feasts, keep them coming! Great looking plants brother...nothing less than expected from the Northwest Clone/Grow master!
I know, brother.  I haven't been at my computer a lot
lately; rainy day today, so no working in the yard!

But THP is never far from my heart and thoughts!

Everything is detailed, and neat as I have come to expect. You have a nifty little yard,I always like seeing it.

I have spent quite a bit of time in D.C. having had a family member die in the line of duty. I still remember the first rubbing I made of "The Wall" almost 30 years ago. Think my mother still has that on her "wall". I hope you had a chance to check out the museums,I could spend a week in those alone. Have a safe Memorial Day.

Thanks for the kind words, John; the yard packs a lot into a small space!

The memorials are awesome, I enjoyed them a lot.  We only had three days
there, so no museums.  But some great dining!  Here's a link to my photos:

Thanks, Jamie.  Plants aren't quite perfect, but a little sunny weather would fix that.
They are doing pretty well for the retro weather we've having.  Feels like March!
I hope to be more conscientious about visiting my bros and sisses at THP!

Hi Andy!  I hope you are right, this is my first shot at OWing.
Over half didn't make it, but then I didn't really do anything
special to them, either, so should be pleased with the result.
And I am  : )  As soon as we get some nice weather I will pot up
a couple more of them..

@ Chris, not gonna "like this" as rains finally left after some . . . well, flooding.

Plants look amazing Paul, flowers, little pods = wonderful! Love those air-root-pruning R-pouches and "Mychorrizae with Humic Acid and some more Dry Molasses"--a man after my heart!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Lovin' the updates, Paul.  Keep 'em coming.  Looks like you have been quite busy up there.  Plants are looking superb.

In answer to your question, yes, my g-house is empty of plants, as well.  Just have gardening tools, ferts, spare pots, etc. filling the space now.
