"Philster Splatocaster"

I'm loving it. Too bad the only crap guitar I have around here is a Epi LP with split and warped neck (not much you can do with that). I think I might give something like this a try some time if I find the right guitar.

It's been a fun project so far... The thing is, I'm really trying to make sure it comes out well, since I'll be dumping about $400 into a Squier! I figure why not take a 2 x 4 and make it something special?

I bought my Squier Tele as a throwaway guitar back in the 90's for cheapness.

It sounded and played great but the cheap pots were always loose and cut out.

Last year I changed pots and installed a 4 way switch and its killer.

That same crap guitar will be going to the beautician for a Bigsby after the new year.

I can't wait.

The belly cut on that body of yours looks huge!

Ya know, for solid body guitars, it all seems to be in the electronics. Load a log up with the right pieces, and it'll sing for ya. BTW, not sure what the single coils in this one were, but the humbucker I took out of it is a Jackson.

The only thing I haven't decided yet is whether to go with poly or nitro for clear. I know the right answer is nitro, but my impatient side keeps telling me poly.

Search Ebay for "project guitars".

As promised, picks of the new Strat.

I've played this thing for a few hours now and although it needs new strings and the trem claw tightened, this thing sounds very traditional Fender. The '57/'62 pickups would give TB's P90s a run for their money if I could just play them well enough, but I can't, so there.

Never really had a desire to buy a single coil guitar, but since I have been playing more blues lately, it was almost necessary to get the tones. No metal coming from these pickups. I tried, it was not the single coil string suit, that is for sure.

She has earned her spot among the humbuckers.

Isn't it amazing how many guitars have copied Leo Fender's design? Even my Carvin has that body style.
I think my next will be another Carvin as I have never played a better guitar and their prices make it a no brainer.
Gibson can keep their overpriced guitars.

One day I'll figure out posting pictures. But have a 1992 American Standard Stratocaster (My #1, added actives and made it a hard-tail by blocking it) and a 2003 Bernie Rico Vixen (custom) look him up... I don't think he builds anymore.

Amps - Only tube amps, yeah maybe I can't tell the difference on the recordings but playing live with that tube amp pushing them speakers wooooooo...

Have a Crate 5 watter (retrofitted with a greenback and some JJ's), A 333 amp (Soldano designed tube amp with tube), my main practice amp and the big sucker 120W Bugera (don't knock it, OK, I fixed the wiring once).

There is a sticky on this site somewhere, but basically, host your pictures off site , click the IMG tag and post the pics URL. Pretty easy once you figure it out.

Yeah, I like my tube amp too. Nice tone.

I've seriously thought about this since I've never heard anything but praise for Carvins, but there are none in Ohio to demo as far as I can tell.

Well maybe. I still see a Les Paul in my future sometime. Overpriced, yes, but it is a Les Paul, I want one,  and they can only charge what the market will bear.

Yeah Carvins are made here in CA so you would have to find someone who owned one to play it.
Don't get me wrong I like Gibsons as well and I used to own a Gibson SG back in the day and liked it. My friend had a black '62 Les Paul with gold hardware and a Bigsby trem on it and it was the best fingering electric I had ever played......until I got my Carvin. Les Paul's are nice but at $4k for an LP Custom they can keep it! I can buy 2-3 Carvins for that. ;)

See the smiley after my post? That means it was playing since you obviously missed it. If you look at the list of greats who play that guitar you might understand why I said that. I did say, "most" not all.

I really never really have played a Gibson Les Paul. I'll fiddle with one on Saturday when I go over to learn some licks from the guitarist from Blind Illusion (doubt anyone here has heard of them unless your from the SF Bay Area). He has a black Les Paul Custom with three gold humbuckers, He's had it since 1977, but not sure what model it is.
