Yeah TB... The Gibson is most definately heavy. Need a counterweight to hold it up after a few portions of my favorite soup. That was my first guitar and would never part with it. I prefer to play the first Jackson. The neck is wider and a bit easier for me to play. I just put EMG 81/85's in it and its got a little bit of scream in it. But you can't beat the warm tone of the Gibson, the JB humbucker gives it a little more punch in the low end.
 
I dig that LP too HNB - nice. The Jackson is interesting - haven't seen a 2-tone before, and I really dig the natural wood finish. That's a very unusual Jackson IMO. They play like a dream but I'm not always a fan of the candy-apple paint jobs. That one's slick.

Gotta be honest - hate the ovations. Not yours - any. They slip off my lap and well, I'm just a wood snob. Plastic of any kind does not belong on a guitar. Yep - snob. Pay me no mind, I'm old and stuck in my ways. :dance:
 
LDHS, the Jackson was a custom order back in the day. It's a maple neck-thru with mahagony sides, ebony fretboard and a Jackson tremolo. I don't know of any other that were built like that...The trem does not float and since buying the DKM2 I have learned to hate the floaters! I don't need to pull up much (unless I'm trying to get the Dimebag squeal!) Continuously working on it to keep the tuning and action the way I like it. Fast and low...

Don't be hatin on the Ovation :P I like it! It has basically the same profile as an electric with the acoustic sound. I agree wholeheartedly the full bodies do sound better, but my wife bought this one for me for Christmas several years back. It's a Viper EA-68 and the best I can tell they only made them ~99.

It can be:D All depends on the mood. Cocobolo is a rosewood, but it's not nearly as open grained. It polishes up very nicely with high grit sandpaper, and breaks in very smooth quickly. I left it totally natural. No oils, just play time.

On another front, it would be cool to hear some music from some of these beauties. Post sumpin' up ya'll! Lookin' is cool, but there's nothing like hearing when guitars come to mind!

Just got back from the Dallas Guitar Show. Outstanding. Too many vintage guitars to even count. You couldn't swing a cat without hittin' a '59 LP Burst. I got a few shots of an online pal-o-mine, Tom Wittrock's vintage planks.

A '59, '58 bursts and a '50's goldtop.

Here's Tom's 1960 burst. Hear that? The sustain. I left the booth for awhile and came back later and it was still sustaining. True story.

Actually the flame on the '59 is pretty tight and much looser on the '58. Still both could be considered almost faded plaintops compared to some tops I've seen. I've seen reissue R9's that literally looked like they were on fire as they had so much flame. Seen more than a few that had big loose flame ala bbq tops. Some of the best R9 tops are the Yamano's that go to Japan. Wildwood Guitars and Marks Guitar Loft usually have a steady stock of outstanding tops as well. The '60's burst is typical of the over spray Gibson was starting to do and while not quite outstanding in the pic I posted, in real life its almost a gen u wine clownburst.
