I got the Behringer Vintager AC108 w/ a single 12AX7 tube. Never turned it past 3 but I live in an apartment & I'm new to playing anyway. Its got an 8", 30 watt, speaker and a good sized magnet so I'm sure it can get quite loud for me at this early stage in my playing. Got it for a song ;) last year.

Since it's just guessing, how about a Pignose?

Nailed it.

Pignose 7-100.

This 'ern's my 4th or 5th can't remember which.

I currently have 2 but have been thinkin' about getting 2 more.

Pignose stack anyone?

The oddball 'thang for me is I'm a straight up tube guy but the piggy nails a genuine tweed sound when cranked.

For 75 shekels and change, probably the biggest bang for the buck of any amplificadore'.

if you do some digging. billy gibbons has had set ups where he uses several pigs at the very beginning of his chain.

I have always wanted a Pignose since I first saw them back in the late 70's. Mouse made a cool portable amp as well. Are they still around? Nice Flying V there TB! Is Albert King an influence of yours? SRV got his string bends from him. :)

Years ago I gigged a Pignose in Port Townsend, WA.

Don't know about the Mouse but MF, GC, Zzounds, all carry the Pignose 7-100.

Ah yes. Sir Albert. To say I am influenced by my favorite King is an understatement but I don't try and play like him anymore.

I simply can't do it like The Man.

I bought my first V after seeing BFG with one on the cover of Fandango. Albert just made it that much more cool.

I ain't no Stevie either.

I got no talent whatsoever so its a struggle to just do what I do.

just saw an axe listed on a big box stores website and they mentioned that the neck was made out of "torrified maple. Did a search & came up w/ this: http://www.woodworkingnetwork.com/news/woodworking-industry-news/Gibson-Auditions-Torrefied-Maple-for--134531858.html#sthash.jhsKeTqn.dpbs

apparently the wood is heated and it improves the qualities of it.:

The the process involves heating wood at a temperature of 190 to 240C in a torrefaction kiln at controlled atmosphere and low in oxygen. The length of the process, as well as the temperature degree sustained during a determined period, depends on the torrefied specie and the desired color.

Torrified maple.

Junk.

If it was so good ever body would want it.

If it looks like a turd and smells like a turd, it IS a turd.

If it ain't ebony or rosewood, I don't want it.

At the calculated risk of starting a self induced flamefest, it is my personal experience that anyone who thinks that the "tonewood" of choice makes a huge difference for a solid body electric needs their head examined.

Maple brighter that ebony? Hardly. Basswood dead and unresponsive? Right. Ebony and rosewood sounding "darker"? Think again. Mahogany "warmer"? Puhleeeeeze. After having played, and repaired, let alone made a few guitars, the biggest thing I've noticed that makes a difference in tone is solely the quality of the piece of wood, and the overall construction of the guitar.

Snug fitting fret slots eliminate dead neck spots, and give a much more lively sound regardless of fretboard wood choice. Tight neck joints, and solid glue and fit make all the difference.

Pickups by far and away give the guitar it's personality. Not to mention the way the player approaches the instrument. I would dare say you could instantly recognize SRV even if he was playing through a Guild hollowbody into a Fender Champ, or using Brian May's rig. You would also instantly recognize Alan Holdsworth even if he was playing through Zach Wylde's rig.

Moral of the story: Pick the wood for esthetics of choice, and dial the pickups for your preferred sound.
