Prayer, Karma, Wishes and good thoughts request

Glad he's doing well, but I can't imagine what a psychiatrist would be good for.  If similar symptoms return, please take him to a real hospital ASAP, not a pill pushing quack.

If you have the means, a consultation with a cardiovascular specialist wouldn't hurt.  His symptoms sure seem to suggest a loss of blood flow.

I thought that was odd advice, too ...

I'm going to the hospital with those symptoms every time, first ...

But, not a lot of ischemic complications in kids ... elasticity to spare.

Well, we finally have an answer. It didn't come from the Hospitals, didn't come from the Doctors nor did it come from the Pharmacy. It was my wife that figured out that there WAS an interaction between 2 of the medicines he was on. In her words:

" I did some research today after the doctors told me they didn't have an answer, and I have found a drug interaction problem between two of the medications that our son takes that could cause one of them to build up on his system over time and increase effects and side effects. And some of the known side effects of the drug that gets built up is hallucinating and other neurological symptoms. The doctor at the hospital said she didn't know anything about ADHD medications and could not confirm, but our psychiatrist, the one who prescribed the combination in the first place, confirmed that it is possible. Obviously, we are discontinuing one of the offending drugs. And our relationship with that psychiatrist, who didn't return my call when I called him on Thursday about his increasing behavior. Not until I called him back today and told him that his patient had been hospitalized this weekend!"

Better and better ... an explanation's nice.

One thing that you can't get wrong, in terms of psych medicine, are the MAO-Inhibitor class one's interactions ...

Folks who take those have to be very specific about a zillion other things in combination if they're on one of those ...

Rocketman, I am glad your child is better.  I think doctors give up on looking for an organic explanation entirely too soon.  Thank god your wife did not do the same or the problem would have compounded.  You have an amazing woman there.

Better yet, discontinue use of all psychiatrists!

Please.

Without getting all ranty (well, maybe a little), let me say that, IMO, "ADHD" is 98% bullshit, and even for that last 2%, pushing pills is not a sane solution.  This one dude nearly killed your kid.  What makes you think another is going to do any better?  :(

I lean a little bit towards the psychologist > psychiatrist and have not taken medicine for ADHD ... but I wouldn't sat I've thrived in that regard, either, so YMMV ...

I am almost forty, though, and I can tell you that when I was diagnosed (at 5 yrs old), it wasn't a common or popular diagnosis, and I *do* have it LOL ...

I was diagnosed at 42 and am now 56. Grant, when I was in grade school the cure was a slap to the side of the head followed with a Pay attention now comment. I won't go into the coffee, tea and coke (as in Cola) abuse that I went through in my unaware attempts to self-medicate. I'll only say that without the medicine I take for it my attention span is about 10 seconds, more if you've captured my attention. I don't have a problem with hyper activity, just attention, with the medicines I can stay focused and on topic.

So, can someone with ADD/ ADHD function without the meds, sure my oldest daughter has put tools in place and over the years weaned herself off of them. We brought her up using tools to help herself and she does great.

It sounds like a TIA.  Did the hospital do an angiogram of some sort?

I am a volunteer cadet firefighter and EMT student. We constantly run medical calls like what you describe rocket. I think Geonerd has it spot on when he says TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). The symptoms are very similar to a stroke, but do not last as long. Healing thoughts are sent your way. Glad to hear he is slowly recovering.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't see the full thing. Glad you got an answer.

Sounds eerily familiar.

I have a bottle of pills my Dr prescribed two physical's ago, and I just haven't taken them.

I consider it sometimes, though, and I believe I probably will take them if I ever have to stop working remotely ...

For what it's worth, my 2nd differential would be absence (petit mal) seizure ...
