Professional football

Actually, I am a 'fair weather' Seahawks fan. I didn't even realize the game was on. Totally missed it , but really wished I would have seen it. I also thought they would get crushed by at least 2 or 3 touchdowns. I think they will probably get crushed by at least 2 or 3 touchdowns the next game, but if they win, I will really enjoy it. I don't take sports seriously any more like I used to many years ago. Just having fun DVG. I am convinced Seattle is forever cursed as a pro sports city and should probably not even have any teams.

Haha, I can relate to suffering Seahawk's fans.

After hearing all year long how weak their division was and how poorly their team was doing in said division, it must have been some sweet redemption for them all the way the 'Hawks showed up to play yesterday.

But now they are on the road to maybe Chicago next week.

If so, they've already beaten da Bears this season.....could the Cinderella Story continue?;)

Their kicker Vinatieri is money.

And don't be too hard on the Colt's special teams.

Aside from the kickoff return at the end Special Teams wasn't making a lot of mistakes.

The problem probably lies with the Colt's offense failing to show up for yet another first round playoff game.

Manning(9-10 playoff record)and company have had seven one-and-done first game exits in the playoffs.

I'm not talking about Vinateri, he is still good, even though he doesn't have much range. I'm mainly talking about starting field position. I watched every Colts game this year except for one. My friends and I cringe when we try to run kicks out of the end zone. We're always screaming "kneel it!" at the TV because they rarely make it to the 20. We often start at the 10-15. We're just as bad on the other end, it seems teams we're playing usually start on the 30-45 more often than not. Not to mention the idiotic roughing the kicker penalty by Taj Smith against the Jets that gave them the ball back, and the leaping penalty by Foster against the Cowboys that costs us 5 points and possibly the game.

Really not a fan of Caldwell either, I'm convinced he doesn't actually do anything besides stand there on the sideline with a confused look on his face before asking Peyton what to do. That challenge at the beginning of the game was idiotic, the timeout at the end of the game was stupid, and the timeout at the end of the game against Jacksonville the first time we played them was really, really idiotic. We're way too conservative, we need a coach that is willing to take risks and not play it safe all the time. We can't ever run out the clock because we go ultra conservative at the end of games with leads and go 3 and out, then our special teams and small speed defense can't keep the other team out of field goal position unless we force a turnover. Unless Freeney or Mathis bail us out by forcing a fumble, or someone gets a pick, the other team just marches down the field at the end of games at will.

It's hard to put too much on Manning considering what he has to work with, which isn't much. The Colts have been last in offensive possessions 4 out of the last 5 years because our defensive can't get anyone off the field. Not that much he can do when he's sitting on the sideline 2/3 of the game. Garcon plays like he has Parkinsons, constantly dropping passes. We haven't had a running game in years. It's a one-dimensional passing offense, and we can't throw deep because we have no running game, our line can't pass block that long, and we have no run game to set up play action passes. It's all screens and short slants and it's hard to drive down the field that way, especially with a non-existent run game that's lucky just to get back to the line of scrimmage. I can't imagine any other QB winning 10 games with this team. If you take the starting QB off of every team in the league, the Colts are easily one of the worst teams in the league. Freeney, Mathis, and Wayne are really good but it's basically a one-man show. We're not stacked with talent like the Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Packers, etc. Mark Sanchez on the Colts would be lucky to go 2 and 14, seriously. Now that Bob Sanders' giant contract is finally off the books hopefully we get a little more talent. We never sign free agents though, I'm sure we'll just overpay our own players and draft more undersized guys in the draft like we do every year. :mope:

Avon, yeah that's a tough one to look back on and wonder what coulda been with a different call and outcome on a play here or a play there...close game and a bitter loss for the Colts.

But I'm sure that neither the Ravens nor the Patriots were too unhappy to see the Colt's early exit from this year's Wildcard Weekend, as the Colts have been thorns in the sides of both those team's Superbowl aspirations in recent seasons.

And now looking ahead to next weekend's Divisional Playoffs: once again there are some exciting matchups just waiting to be played out.

Saturday Jan. 15

4:30 EST Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens

This is gonna be another violent, hard hitting close game, as these two teams seem to know no other way to play each other.

I would expect the game to be decided by a field goal, with maybe even the first overtime game under the League's new OT format being tried out.

Tough one to call, with Pittsburgh having an overall edge in recent games, and having homefield advantage.

I'd like to pick Baltimore in a close one, but will begrudgingly give the Steelers the nod here.

8:00 EST Green Bay Packers @ Atlanta Falcons

These two teams met earlier this season with the Falcons squeaking out a three point win.

Matty 'Ice', played almost a perfect game with only four incompletions and went pick-free.

This time around, I expect the Green Bay defence to dial up the pressure on the Falcon's QB, to try to force some mistakes out of him.

Another close game, but this time I think Green Bay will prevail, but wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta was able to still pull out a win on a last minute drive either.

Sunday Jan. 16

1:00 EST Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks

With da Bears hibernating through the first round of the playoffs, I expect them to be emerging from their den in a grumpy and ravenous mood.

And with Seachicken;) being served on the menu that day, da Bear's D could be feasting on turnovers and big plays against an overmatched 'Hawks team.

Plus da Bears have an earlier loss to the Seahawks this season to avenge for.

I don't expect this one to be too close, as Seattle doesn't play well on the road.

Seattle may be a Cinderella story, but da Bears have lead a charmed existence all season long this year.

Sorry Seahawks fans, but the fairytale ending to your season ends with the glass slipper being shattered and blown away, in the Windy City.

4:30 EST New York Jets @ New England Patriots

I'm amused by Jest coach 'Sexy Rexy' Ryan's attempt to make this game a personal contest between himself and Pat's coach Bill Belichick.

I expect the Jet's to go back to a simpler package on offense and try to use their power running game to maximum effect, attempting to eat up the clock and keep Brady and company off the field.

Conversely, with the extra week off, I fully expect Belichick to have his troops fully prepared and raring to go out and kick some Jets' butt.

Though this game won't be the 45-3 blowout that the Pat's laid on the Jets a month ago, I still expect the Patriots to move onto the Conference Finals, the following week.

I like your commentary DVG, I kinda feel like I'm watching or listening to an analyst... Keep it up!

I don't really have anything nearly as insightful- (Pretty much never) But looking forward to this weekend. Both AFC games should be a lotta fun to watch, this coming from a guy who doesn't follow the AFC. Agree with your picks. Def wanna see the Jets/Pats one the most. Rex Ryan is such a derp. And hoping my Pack can put up a better, more balanced attack down in that dome this time.

I'll break it down in reaction faces- unedited/not updated version

Thanks Boutros, I try to have some fun with it.

If you want to read what a real analyst has to say, Peter King put out his picks for this weekend's games, today.

And Peter picked the Pack to plunder Atlanta too.;)

Good luck to your Packers this weekend.

Hey JayT...my cowboys kicked some ass this year huh...that made me laugh a belly laugh, almost split my sides...Jerry Jones...what can you say...

Well at least Jerry doesn't meddle as much as Al Davis does with his team...but maybe in a few years when senility starts to creep in a bit, who knows?;)

dvg

starts my a**...if I was worth billions, I still dont' think I could be as big of an Ahole as jones is...

***gonna lie down and let blood pressure stabalize***

AJ,

You can talk about Jones but we have to deal with Mike Brown. He is the apple that fell far from the tree, rolled down a steep hill and hit his head several times.

The problem is, the entire organization is run by the "family." They grew up in football, but never learned it.

I like what I saw in the last two games, the ones without Chad and Terrell - the offense was humming. If there is a season next year, I look for the tigers to go deep into the playoffs.

Yeah, I'm guessing that neither Batman nor Robin are around for next season...just too many team distractions with those two.

So it should be interesting to see if Cincy rebounds back to '09 form with the Dynamic Duo off doing what they do best on other franchises, mainly wreaking chaos and mayhem with team morale.

And I heard that Denver just got themselves a new coach, Carolina's former head man, John Fox.

I'm curious to see if he can get that team turned around.

He might be a step in the right direction, afterall he did turn the Carolina franchise around from where it was when he first took over there, this last season notwithstanding.

But I'm not totally sold on having John Elway as the right guy for being in charge of football operations.

That team could be struggling for a while, but I guess I'll have to wait and see how they do next season.

Have yall heard the Wes Welker interview ? He really has fun with it! Poking Rex.
It is 9 minutes long, I'm sure yall can find it if you wanna listen to the whole thing.
But this is what I heard!

Bwahaha!

Wayright, that was hilarious! Thanks for sharing.

After all the trash talking the Jets have been doing this week, it's good to see Wes Welker fly under the radar with that cheeky performance.

And of all the scandals that the Jets have had to endure this season, Ryan's wife's foot fetish filming incident is the only one he didn't want to talk about, repeatedly saying it was a "Personal matter".

Looks like the Pats were able to find his Achilles heel and probably make Mr. Ryan a little ticklish about addressing the issue.

I guess that is one way to stuff both feet into Rex's mouth to shut him up for a while. Haha!

dvg

Nice close one being played out today between the Jets and Pats at Foxborough.

Jets sliding on the Razor's edge going into the 4th quarter trying to preserve their 14-11 lead.

dvg

WOW!!!

Full credit to the Jets, for their upset win over the favored Patriots.

Should set up a good one next week at Pittsburgh.

That was hilarious, Wes Welker is awesome. It got him benched for the first drive though.
