RocketMan 2014 - Resurrection

Wow, first growing season in the new house and I'm totally stoked for this one. Lots of prep work still to be done but there's plenty of time to get it done before plant out. So, here is a pic of where Pepper Row will be going in:

I'll be coming out about another 18 to 24 inches from the fence. The brick line will move out to the new edge and the Ivey will be kept cut back to wher it is now so the fence doesn't show through, she who must be obeyed has made it known that she doesn't want to see it :)

I'm still working on the list and as these will probably be in for a while I'm actually thinking about rather a short list using the peppers I use most often in sauces but can't get locally like Fataliis and planting 3 or 4 of each.

The other, non-pepper stuff will be growing in the big bed at the end of the row. We'll be putting in raised beds there but first I have to remove this bast@rd:

+1 on your growing biological empire Grandad, and good on ya for making your own self-watering trays. What kind of fabric are you using for a wick?

Thanks Rick, the towels are just some cheap, wash rag size, terry cloth but they're wicking pretty well.

Great mod! I like it! Good luck with your new starts brotha!

Thanks Shane, I think it's going to work out well. We'll see :)

Just FYI, the supplies to do the mod were less than $10.00. It was like $3.00 for the PVC pipe and about $5.00 for the Florescent light cover and $1.00 for the terry cloths.

Starting the new seeds tonight with their 24 hour soak. Here's the new list:

This was printed out from the new Seed Bank and Grow Log Database I developed and thanks to some of the members here am entering beta testing with. Here's a shot of what it looks like.

Good luck with round 2 Bill!

Before you know it the G-kid will be pushing you away from the PC, our 2 oldest are into online horse games. They keep asking me to buy them a horse...LOL Like I would know what to do with a horse care wise..

144 plants. Wow. You are going to be busy this year. Good luck with it.

Yeah LOL, I won't be keeping all of them. Probably 3 or 4 of each maybe a few more of a couple and there will be some going to family and friends.

Last night I took the seeds out if their soak and placed them onto some coffee filters in some condiment cups.

I've used these for the last 2 seasons so I was shirt 1 cup and 3 kids. Some ziplock bags stepped in the service.

It noticed some green this morning while letting the dogs out and found some survivors. Not sure if I'll keep them or not.

With modifications done I filled the trays with water and checked to see if the terry towels would wick up the water which they do like a champ. So I refilled the trays with fresh soil and placed them on the clothes. I figure I have 2 or 3 days till the seeds are ready to go into the dirt so till then I'll see how well the trays wick up the water.

The mod's working like a charm and the trays are staying moist but not swamped. Now to get some seeds into the dirt, probably tonight. Pics to follow.

Going to be making some raised boxes for the main garden. Construction will be out of 2x12s with 2x2s to help make them more sturdy and they'll extend about a foot down into the ground to stabilize the boxes.

I'm not going to be using pressure treated lumber as I've read it can affect the plants so, I'm wondering if i should get some heavy plastic sheet to line the inside of the boxes with to help protect the wood. I'm thinking that it would help the boxes to last longer before I have to rebuild them. The garden plot will be like this:
