RocketMan's 2013 Glog; In The House!!

There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments." -- Janet Kilburn Phillips

I love that quote and it will try my best to remember it through this new grow. So, I'm going with only 18 varities this year as we're looking at moving to a larger house if not buying this summer and I really don't want to have to try and haul a ton of plants when we do. the ones I've selected are:

1. 7 Pot Jonah---------------------------- Pic 1
2. Aji Lemon------------------------------- romy6
3. Chili De Arbol Negro------------------ smokemaster via SocalChilihead
4. Datil-------------------------------------- Pic 1

Alot of them are ones i started last year that never grew beyond a certain point and I'm pretty sure that a lot of it was my new grower mistakes. Since I really want to try them I'm giving them a grow again. Once again, thanks to everyone that helped me getting started with gifts of seeds and to all on here thanks for leaving your incredable words of wisdom that we can all learn from.

Cheers to a bountiful grow this year.

Peppers looking great, Bill!
Sorry the weather is so sucky

I do have one question. Why do you call
them over winters?

What he said

Ok so maybe not winter weather wise but officially it's winter.

Bill it doesn't feel like winter here either......the next three days will be in the 50's (mid). Chicago just set a record of about 80 yrs of having the most consecutive days of no accumulating snow of an inch or more. The string goes back to last March. I hope we get a hard frost, if not the trees will bud early and that means "white flies"....
Hey, here's another term for ya. "Winterover", whereas you bring a plant indoors without trimming and continue to grow with moderate lighting. Bringing the plant back outdoors in the summer. An example would be a "Northern Annual" or the same plant may be considered a perennial in the southern zones.

Ha, ok enough said........now I'm starting to bore myself...........................

My point exactly! ;)

Geez, we wont be getting weather like that for at least 6 more months.
The new pods are looking great!

Paul, you should see it when the temp hits the upper 40's and people down here are breaking out the heavy winter coats and I'm still in Short Sleeves, hang in there gentlemen, Spring is coming.

Man, I spent a week there in Feb 2007 and the warmest day was -10. Heard a story about how Chicago came to be while I was there. The corperate trainer was a native Chicagan, Chicagoian, born and raised in Chicago and he said and one day, a long time ago, a couple of people in New York said Ya know, it's just not cold enough for me here and dang sure not enough wind, lets move. :)

Haven't had to deal with white flies yet. Just ants and I nuked them as soon as I spotted the first one. :flamethrower:

Nice variety! So jealous of your weather!

Thanks, don't be jealous, our weather can turn on us in a heart beat and hit us with a couple of inches of rain in ten minutes or less. Plants don't really like that.

Thanks for stopping by, hope y'all have a great week. We're on the downhill slide now.

All kidding aside (right) every climate zone has its ups and downs.
Youse guys get the nice temps, but all the assorted pests and
diseases that come with it. And the really damaging weather. We
may not have ideal growing climate and have to do some contortions
to get long season stuff to grow, but we escape the worst of the nasties.

So, good growin' to all, wherever you are. I enjoy the heck out of seeing
how different parts of the world turn. Keep up the good work, Bill!

Ok, so far I've had germination on
Gochu
Chocolate habanero
West Indian Yellow Habanero

Funny that I never saw the hooks as I look at them every night when I check the water in the tray. If they keep growing like that I'll be potting the up in no time. Can't wait to see what I have tonight. This is the fun part :)

Bonnie, it's time to make a big pot of Chili and some Cormbread when it gets that cold. I know you have a fire in the fireplace so stay warm.

Have a great week,
Bill

Stand back, brother, here they come!
They can just shoot up sometimes. Amazing.
Love the heat in the Choco Habs; not familiar
with the other two, except by way of Rick's
comments about the gochus. I do like his gochu
powder!

@Bonnie - Egads, girl! That's colder than the
shady side of a witch's hat! Keeps those
sprouts warm!

Bill that looks like a nice "earthy" mix that your using. That should help with water and air flow to the seeds . Good luck with the rest of the germination

We woke up yesterday to a nice cool morning with temps in the 50’s and a high of 63 with a little touch of rain and today people were pulling out heavy coats with the morning temp at 43. Yeah, freezing J So, here’s an update on the little ones.
First here’s the list and there’s a map on the first page if you want to see it.

Pics are nice blurry IPhone shots but you can see the ones that have their first leaves out easily and can just make out some of the hooks. I’ll get some pics of the teenagers this weekend along with a shot of what I’ve harvested so far.

And i had some plum tomatoes that were starting to get a little soft so instead of letting them go bad I busted out the Christmas present and

Homemade Sun Dried Tomatoes, well sorta :)

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hey RocketMan, awesome grow list.

As far as the "whitefly" go... man, I have had one season of those suckers and I still have nightmares! They sucked my plants dry, drained me emotionally and bled my bank account dry - what with all the pestacides lol urgh nasty!

Good luck, I hope you have a pumper season!
