I love that quote and it will try my best to remember it through this new grow. So, I'm going with only 18 varities this year as we're looking at moving to a larger house if not buying this summer and I really don't want to have to try and haul a ton of plants when we do. the ones I've selected are:

Alot of them are ones i started last year that never grew beyond a certain point and I'm pretty sure that a lot of it was my new grower mistakes. Since I really want to try them I'm giving them a grow again. Once again, thanks to everyone that helped me getting started with gifts of seeds and to all on here thanks for leaving your incredable words of wisdom that we can all learn from.

Furniture moves in with us this weekend so no more work on the garden for a while. I'll be squaring up the shape some and building some raised beds. Also going the be removing the sod for pepper row. So there's still a lot to come.

This is a special pic for Matt, yes sir I still have one and its available for use if you want to swing by and assist when it's time :)

The next big project will be the removal of this big thing. After researching it Im going try Spectricide Stump Remover which is basically nothing more than Potassium Chloride. Once it's gone, probably take a month or 6 ;) I'll have to reroute a sprinkler line and a couple of heads them I can get in with a tiller and start building the soil and the raised beds. Soooo much fun coming up.
 
Actually, I hear you can get stump remover that is essentially saltpeter. drill the holes and pack with saltpeter and fill holes to the top with water. Water dissolves saltpeter and stump absorbs solution. Repeat several times and allow the stump to completely dry. set fire to the stump with a few lumps of lit charcoal, and what you have now is essentially a big piece of slowmatch that'll burn down well below the soil surface.

yeah, then you can use the leftover to make your own homemade gunpowder and rocket fuel . . .

Yep, burning after the, actually it's Potassium Nitrate but yeah Saltpeter (acts as an Oxidizer), has soaked into the tree stump you can build a fire with charcoal or soak it with Kerosene and set a match to it. The problem here is that the fire can burn for several days till the stump is reduced to nothing but ashes. State, not local, city or county, requirements are that it can only burn from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and has to be out. Also has to meet all the set back requirement, Etc, etc, etc... = PITA!
 
The Stump Remover does leave the wood spongy and soft though. so attacking it with an Axe, Saw, ETool and such will make it easier to dig out and remove down below ground level, well I'm hoping anyways. I'd really like to get it 12" below but I think reality might be more like 6".

Maybe but my Rocket Fuel tastes better, ask Jamie ;)
 
Furniture gets in tomorrow, hope my back makes it through this weekend, and I'm hoping that on Sunday I can slip over to mom's to pick up my plants and a few other things I have there. Man, I forgot how much fun home ownership really is  :cool:

I know the state doesn't want to have to deal with forest fires but don't see that they have a legitimate b#$&@ with you using that method in an urban area. That's city territory, and if there's a problem, it'll be the municipal fire department that deals with it. Maybe if you make a fire break around the stump and put up a barrier so kids and dogs can't fall into the hole your neighbors will be OK with it. After all, the fire's down in the ground and can't spread... how are the city and state authorities gonna find out if nobody tells them?
 
I remove stumps by burning, I put the tops on the stump and let things dry a while...but you live in a community...
 
OK, here's the plan, it's now a BarBQ, rig a grill on it and cook any freezer burned meat for the dogs...so what, we're grilling for a few days...and BTW there's a pig down there too...wanna check?
 
Well, one if the things I read said that it was a really low burn with no smoke or flame so.....

Eff all that burnin and digging...(by the way I got me a couple of them shovels layin around) Call a Seabee EO and have him bring a backhoe...no more stump in a few minutes! Place is looking great! Way I see it...next priority is to get them pepper gardens up and running...can't ferment pods off unplanted plants! 
 
Cardboard and newspaper make decent mulch...

:woohoo: Woo-Hoo! Your first ferment in the new launch pad will be something special... that oughta keep the home fires burning! ;)
 
Now that I'm set for powder and unfermented hot sauce, it's time to make my first ferment of this season. The Chocolate Habs are starting to taper off, but I'll still get enough for a couple of pounds in the next week or so. I'm also picking about a pint of Aji Omnicolor pods every day, and that ain't gonna slow down until frost. Any thoughts about good mashes for these?
