seeds Seed sprouting experiment with Gibberellic Acid (GA3)

Hi, I have used it in the past and have been meaning to pick some more up. I would use some liquid root tone to promote root mass growth. Gibberellic acid will hender heavy root groth, it does help in getting the blooms to fertilize themselves, but hender bloom growth so using a bloom set auxin will help that Growth can be very fast at times and cause long leggy seedlings so you might want to watch for that other wise its great stuff to use.

If I remember correctly, you can extract NAA from willow trees. Just make a tea with cuttings from the new growth tips.
It decays in contact with light, though. Store it in a lightproof bottle. Auxin's finnicky afaik.

Hey just a heads up to anyone who tries this: There is a guy on amazon selling GA3 and he provides a sheet with it with "1 scoop added to 4 oz of water raises ppm by 100" hand-written on it. Well one scoop comes out to ~200 mg and 4 ounces is ~118 ml. The stuff says 90% pure so that comes out to .9*200mg/118ml = ~1.5 mg/ml = 1500 ppm
So either he's plain wrong or he's selling something else. I'll try it out and update.
Let me know if anyone knows what this nonsense is all about please...

UPDATE: I have been exchanging emails with the guy and he sees that he made a mistake and is welcoming advice and help with his products.
So, it seems it was an honest mistake and the guy is legit

Well nobody has responded so here is my current plan. Please loan your opinion freely!

-24 hour seed soak at 150 ppm

-plant in jiffy pellets in dome on heat mat...etc

- pot up when established

-at 7 weeks or so from sprout foliar spray once with fresh 150 ppm

im only treating one plant of each variety that i will have multiple plants of this season.

Should i go 500 ppm all day? Im shooting for my chinense middle of this month so hit me people!

well, I put seed in 1000 ppm yesterday and got lazy and left them there. I'm going to take them out and plant them today, I'll let you know how that goes...

I have very little experience with GA3 (have a kit, haven't used it), but my understanding is that different species respond best to different concentrations.  So it's good to see people here experimenting with different concentrations and posting their results.

Cool thanks

Yes every species has a "sweet spot" of GA3 concentration. Example: I sprayed the Peruvian Red Rocoto with a 350 ppm solution and it ended up dying because it couldn't support itself it got too tall. I sprayed a madballz with the same 350 ppm and it's doing great, other than looking a little odd. I'll post a picture shortly.

As for soaking seeds it's the same deal, there's a certain concentration you have to find for it to work perfectly, trouble is finding it. I soaked those rocoto seeds in 1000 ppm I believe and they sprouted in 4 days, soaked something else in 1000 ppm and it didn't seem to make a difference (sprouted in 12 days)

The key is, experiment, experiment, experiment! Also you'll want to balance the GA with other PGR's like IAA (indole 3 butyric acid, an Auxin) and 6 Benylaminopurine (6BA, a Cytokin).
