SKULLBIKERS 2019 Container and Kratky GLOG

I am starting an indoor grow experiment so I might as well start the new years glog at the same time. Today I threw 3 seeds in the dirt(hoping for 66% germination). I will keep 1 in dirt and 1 in Kratky. These will stay in my grow room under my 8000K T8 shoplights from the beginning through fruit.

I have no idea - I'm just a beginner! I think maybe your nighttime temps are what helps - some periods of cool - whereas mine are on the Texas boil with lows around 80 which is not enough to chill the plant. How cold does it get at night for you?
I think cooler nite temps do help although lately many nights are near 70, occasionally it drops to upper 50s and 60s. Maybe you could do what Podz does. He sprays them with cold water every night to cool them down. He says his are making good pods since he started doing that.

I'm trying that actually - but finding cold water is proving to be a challenge :) My hose water comes out at 90 until I empty the tank and it starts pulling from the well - this can take 30 minutes or more.

I think I'm gonna have to leave a spray bottle in the fridge.

They look like apples. How do they taste?

As I have mentioned in the past, I do not have a very discerning palate. I only pick up on strong flavors, rarely little hints of this or that. That being said, to me they taste somewhat like a really good RED bell pepper with medium heat and they are super juicy. These would be excellent stuffed like Jalapeno poppers and I think they are going to make an excellent sauce. Also, I weighed the ones that I just picked. The heaviest one was 71 grams with the 7 of them weighing out at 437 grams.

Very interesting that the pubes are killing it when the greenhouse gets to 100°. Here, I struggle with them, although they do, do better in semi shade. The Aji Oro and Aji Largo seem to do the best here. If you get them to perform in Fla. I will be really impressed!

I want to see a pic of the loud bike!

Now that's the kind of pepper I would love to be able to grow. Not a single pod set on any of my rocotos - plenty of flowers though. I'm hoping that fall will bring better luck. It's far too hot at the moment in Texas with daytime temps in the mid 90s.

I hope you're ready for Florida - you'll get loads of growth and a supoer long season but your rocotos are going to be a challenge - I'll be very interested to see how you get on.

Spray the rocotos down with cold water at night and you will get pods. I mean literally as cold as you can get from the water hose. This is how the pros get them to fruit in greenhouses.

Do you have cold water from your house faucets? Hook the hose up to a faucet in your bathroom, for example - that's what I do since I also want the option of hot water when filling my hot tub.

I never heard of rocotos before I joined this forum. I quickly decided that they won't work for me because they are more difficult to grow ( I'm not a very experienced grower) and they prefer to grow slightly cooler ( I live in very warm southern California)... if they grow in Florida maybe I'll give it a try.

Oh, they grow very well in the heat (85-90f anyway has been tested by me) and even in direct sunlight but the problem when it is hot is that they usually drop all the flowers instead of setting fruits. If you can get them to set fruits, then the fruits will also grow very fast in the heat. As mentioned above, showering them down with really cold water at night while they are heavily flowering can help to induce fruit set. Works for me (tm).

My problem is that I'm on a well which pumps into an above ground storage tank. This tank is in the pool house which is typically not cooled that much so the inside temps are around 85F (~30C). All water initially comes from the tank and only if I empty the tank will I get direct water from the well which is much much cooler. I'd waste a lot of water emptying the tank every evening to get cool water.

I typically won't see a frost until Jan/Feb and the temps will get cooler in a month or so. I think I'll wait until it gets cooler in a month or so and see if that helps. Still plenty of time to set and grow pods.

Wow, I haven't seen a water system like that since the 60's. Can you retrofit a standard 34 gallon pressure tank at the well pump so you can be pumping cool well water within minutes?

I think that's what I have - a pressure tank and it's probably in the 30-40 gallon range. That's a lot of wasted water if I'm emptying it to get cool well water.

Most of the capacity in a pressure tank is occupied by the air bladder. You should probably only have to pump out 8 to 10 gallons out of a big one until the pump cuts in and starts pulling cool water from downhole. Have you checked the tank pressure lately?

Nope, I barely know how the system works, let alone what it's supposed to be doing.

One word Siv:  "spray bottle in fridge."

OK, that's 4 words but you get my point...    :)

Couldn'a tol' me that, knowing my pod setting woes, ehyuh?

I just put a quart mister in the fridge, full of rain barrel water. We SHALL find out if your tips be true...!

Hey SkullB, those blue hair pepper plants would have messed up the culture down the anyway.... ;)
