Sm1nts2escape's 2014 First Glog

Welcome to my Glog! This will be my first year growing peppers. Last year was my first for growing tomatoes but I grew from starter plants. So with that being said I will probably be making some mistakes and would appreciate your advice if you notice something. Anyways,  I purchased a Secret Jardin Dark Propagator 90 (DP90) 3x2x3 grow tent and two 300w led fixtures off of ebay to get this season started. Everything has broke the surface minus the Brown Bhut (dried pods), Jalabanero (frozen Pods) and  Red Congo (Frozen Pods). I am hoping they will do something soon. One thing that has me puzzled is the Blue/purple tint that has developed on say 65% of my pepper seedlings. I don't know if I should be concerned but they are still kicking so I am just going to go with it.  Also I noticed the peppers that were transferred to Jiffy seed starting soil seem to be growing much faster than the sprouts that are a week older in the Miracle grow soil.

I am craving for pods! I picked a couple of green Aji Pineapples yesterday for me and my girlfriend to try. It tasted like a spicy jalapeno with maybe just a touch of pineapple in the background? I love how I can share my love of spicy food with her :) Today I tried a green Naga x Tabasco which was pretty hot, kinda bitter, crunchy, meaty and juicy. The Naga x Tabsco as is would definitely make a good sauce. Now for some more pics ;)

A nice looking (RBS) red Brainstrain developing. My Favorite superhot at the moment.

This plant really has me puzzled and kinda upset lol. It is supposed to be a RBS and looks exactly like my other two RBS but the pods look like a hab... :banghead:

Red Primo's

A big yellow Brainstrain. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I think it is sunburn on the pod?

Brown Bhut

Aji Pineapple is just straight up loaded with pods and very vigorous...

My supers are really putting on some size! Many are waist high with trunks over a half inch wide. I buried the rootballs about 14 inches in the ground and the plants are spaced 3 foot apart :)

A double flower on one of my Black Krim Tomatoes

Panorama shot on the ground. The sweet peppers are smaller but starting to grow pretty fast now.

Thanks for all the thumbs up guys. It puts a smile on face knowing how good your gardens look!

Very nice.  The brain strain looks perfect, that's going to be a scorcher...

I hope it is! I love the flavor of brainstrains. The pod that gave birth to my two brainstrains came from a sfrb of mixed peppers. It was perfect and huge and damn near killed me lol. I got lucky with the op seed.

Looking good! Yeah definitely looks like a little sunburn on the yellow brain, no big deal from what I've noticed. Your red brains look killer!
That's good to hear. I was worried it was some type of disease or something. #paranoidgardner lol

Wow that is some good growth! What are they?

Edit the ones next to the wall I mean. That is one big brain strain too!

Neil
The row of plants next to the wall are all my fullsize brown tomatoes (minus the Kumato's) and peas. Cherokee purple x2, Black from Tula x2  and Black Krim x2 I really like the flavor of the brown tomatoes. I am going to try and make my own ketchup and sauces with them this year.

Wow, cool!  Are they native or the chinese mantis?
Thanks! From their website "Tenodera aridifolia sinensis or Stagmomantis carolina"
So I guess these are the native Carolina ones? I have four more egg cases yet to hatch. Maybe I'll get some green ones too.

The OR is the thing... either way, they're cool little insects...

Finally fertilized my plants again. Haven't fertilized them since I transplanted them in the garden. Used a small cupful of fox farms tomato fert and a small shovel full of cow manure around the base of each plant. Everything in the garden is producing now :) Some of the tomatoes have these red mite looking bugs on them and I'm going to have to spray with some pesticide :/ Other than that everything is doing great! Won't be long now :)

You might want to ID those bugs before spraying. Fast moving red mites are often predatory mites, who eat bad mites.

Wow, your plants are looking great!  Where are those "giant ghosties" from?  They look very interesting.

Yellow Bhut is looking very nice too.  Great job with the plants...

I'm curious about the giant bhut's too. The jolokia is my favourite tasting pepper. It would be great if the larger pods tasted the same and had the same heat.
